FAI
Only 60.Quote:
The death has occurred in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, of the FAI’s Senior Coach Educator and manager of the Irish Universities men’s team, Noel O’Reilly. Aged 60, he was one of the most respected figures in Irish football and a valuable member of the FAI staff at Abbotstown.
Sad news.
Passed this evening in the Mater: http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...k=view&id=3633

Many fond memories of Noel and he was always there for me when I started out at this journalism lark.
Most of our discussions were off the record but he never failed to answer a call or get back if he was busy.
An absolute gentleman in every way and many of our current stars have Noel to thank for his advice, praise, criticism but above all his neverending encouragement.
Someone somewhere is currently being entertained by Noel and his guitar.

I just heard this news earlier. God bless his family. Very sad news indeed. Rest in Peace.
Does anybody check Aertel anymore. Anyway very sad news and a great footballing man. Well said Soccerc and nice to hear a personal story. Very sad day for Irish football, just heard it in the taxi coming back from the hospital.

Great servant to Irish Football, will always be remembered
RIP
His contribution to my club and to Irish football generally should never be underestimated. A giant of a little man.
RIP Noel and deepest sympathies to Rose.
Out having a few pints with a couple of old football mates from 25 years ago earlier when the news came through, in a second it took us all back to Fairview Park where his passion and coaching brilliance first came to notice. A great coach but an even greater man. RIP Noel. A sad sad day.
Great man & trainer. I'll always remember the training sessions in Mosney with Belvo.
R.I.P
RIP Noel, was it sudden
Sad to see someone go at 60, days after being out on the road giving a coaching course. He did alot of the game in this country ...
RIP Noel
A sad loss to Irish football. One of the most important people ever associated with Pats. A true gent too
RIP
Very sad news. It will be very difficult to replace such a good coach. He will be sorely missed. Rip
R.I.P. Noel, a major loss to Irish Football. :ball:
Very sudden, heard of his illness at the Pats-Derry match on Tuesday, and even then it sounded like there wasn't much hope :(
Great man. For all the things he's done for youth football and for the club I support, but more so for being such a decent, likeable bloke - Noel, I salute you.
Very sad news.
With deepest sympathy from Limerick. Anyone I spoke to that met Noel were much better for their experience. Rest in peace.
Just saw it when I logged on here. :(
Great shock, great loss. Noel was real football people. RIP.
A true loss.. his work abroad representing the FAI and the country was phenomenal. In Japan, at WC2002 he did training sessions with local youths in the location where the national team were based... the kids loved it, and it was a pleasure to work with him...

really sad news, heard it on the rte radio soccer programme friday night. Met him around 1994/95, he had a few days off and was on a break down here in the west of ireland. had the guitar with him and sang a few songs. returned later in the year and organised a soccer blitz for the young kids. Probably one of the most decent of men i have ever met, my sympathy to Rose who i got to know as well.I stil have a t-shirt from an American soccer camp he gave me. When i think of the singsongs we had, it brings back great memories. A massive loss to both the game and society. rip
Sad news RIP
Very sad to hear, R.I.P.
Shocking news. RIP Noel.
Awful news. RIP Noel.
RIP Noel.
RIP Noel, true Gent and legend of the game in Ireland. Was out of the country for the weekend so missed any eulogies that may have been paid, a very sad loss at such a yound age.
I was absoloutely stunned when I read it on the newspaper in Charlestown. I met him on a few occasions and I have to say, not only he was a great coach, but he bore humility. His humbleness at the Kennedy Cup in Limerick stood out as he would have a chat with anybody with a passion and interest in the game. This guy was a legend to schoolboys and youths football in Ireland, and he is a very hard act to follow. RIP.
was out of the country guys for last few weeks - - a huge loss to irish football - may he R.I.P --- gave so much to irish football
did any former players or current players attend his funeral?
Packie Bonner, Eoin Hand and Brian Kerr anyway.
