Big week for both the boro and s&f, whats the thoughts on this one??
yes its a big game for both clubs.think it be a close game. The boro favourites to win,but s&f will be up for it,,, its a hard game to call!!!!
Are you a snuggie?
It wasn't long ago when we pi$$ed all over ye in division 1 ;) Now ye have the best financial backing in the ML but ye still cant win anything. Fitzie and JJ will tear ye apart, should be an entertaining game though...if ya like one sided affairs :D
Because the Boro are second in the Super League? Favourite tag doesn't mean much anyway. I don't think the 11 S&F players that take the pitch on Sunday will be too intimidated by the Boro.
Some of the more outspoken members of the S&F side are fairly confident. They don't think the Boro can handle Paul Fitzpatrick. Good player. Do S&F have anyone that can handle Paul Curry? Supposedly Galway United will have a scout at the game to look at Curry. Hopefully he plays to his potential. Stevie G has played with Noel Hunt and says that Paul is just as good as him but unfortunately won't get the opportunity to play at that level.
Its a tough game to call. Our last league game against Ballyheane was called off so we haven't played a game since Ballinrobe.(4 weeks before Final) We didn't play well that day. The fact that S&F have played as recently as yesterday probably gives them an edge.
I'm not sure of the injury/suspension/absentee situation, so I think we should have a fairly strong lineup. For that reason, I think Snugboro should win the game 2-0.
this is tough one to call, the boro of late has suffered the jitters. S/f will go through fire and brim stone.
S/F for me would have to be odds on 2 win, then a gain the experience of Stevie Gavin might just tip the scales, if he can control his charges.
What ever happens The Super league is not on trial
I believe this could be a good game with alot of goals. Both teams have great strikers, but i believe both defences will be found out on the big pitch milebush is!!!
I really dont know where your coming from,Ok ye beat Ballina after they made three defensive errors and handed ye three goals,I can see it been a very close affair, evan as close as going to a penalty shoot out.I agree that on thier day that jj and pf are very good strikers,Fair play to them on winning promotion in style this year.People understimate pc and sc for snugboro.Snugboro worked off a panel of 16-17 players all season and a little bit a credit must go to all of them, players and managers alike. In everybodys eyes this time last year they were relagation fodder. The money quote by somebody else here is a load of you know what.I hate all this talk of Money that people talk about and certain clubs, all hearsay:ball:
If the Boro have a decent keeper signed since they last played in the sportspark, they should be ok. Otherwise S&F will walk it.
If you´re so against speculation and hearsay you should practice what you preach and not presume you know which club people are affiliated to. If you bothered to read these pages you would realise GoodFootball is not an S+F man, he merely rates them after playing against them four times this year. The old cliche of attack the post not the poster should come into play here. ´You obviously don´t know what you´re talking about´ is a bit rich. Also, to oppose someone mentioning money, which has unfortunately but definitely become a factor in the Mayo League, is to (A) promote ignorance of this unhealthy development and (B) draw attention away from the clubs who practice it. Primarily Celtic and now Snugboro. As you well know.
Well I think you generally have an unbiased, decent attitude in your posts Joe, so if you say that Snugboro have no renumeration system in place at the club whatsoever then I´ll take your word for it. Speculation and hearsay (which someone else was hypocritically claiming to abhor, not me) are unfortunately the only thing one can go on regarding a club´s finances, short of attending the AGM. I was never at a Celtic AGM but was well aware that Dykes was getting paid, club car etc. How? Someone told me. My comments regarding Snugboro was based on the same premise, someone in the game told me. When ye signed a lot of talent and came second in the league it seemed to add up. If I have misrepresented your club I apologise.
Any advice to a small club hoping to join the ranks of the Super league who could do with expanding the squad with talent but have no intention of paying anyone? It might come in really handy ;)
Point taken and I now realise that Goodfootball is not an S n F man.Again I will apologise for assuming as one should never assume. However Has goodfootball played against snugboro this year or for that matter Seen them play. You talk about hearsay but can either of you say that you have seen snugboro play and how have you based your assumptions on a 3-0 win.You say that it would be good for the premier league and I agree that if S n F win it would be great.Im not opposing the fact of money or talking about money, all you get here is people talking about money that a or b or c is getting money, but when you ask the hard questions like giving examples, people have problems giving answers.Thats my point....dont talk about hearsay and if you do, mention the figures that these guys are getting otherwise its "hearsay".All hot air.Money has crept into mayo laegue football,of that there is no doubt. Why do you mention JUst "Celtic" and "Snugboro",what about your neighbours??? They were the first ever to pay players, and on that I can Caterogically guarantee that no celtic or snugboro player is getting paid.
Fair enough. To be honest I don´t want to get caught up in an argument about players getting paid because it´s just going to cause hassle and I don´t have the revelant details. I was just sticking up for Goodfootball as I thought your reply was harsh. Not that he needs sticking up for. I´ve already replied to Joe Denilson and want to opt out of the debate at that point. You´re right - I didn´t see Snugboro this year, but then I didn´t assume anything! I never made a prediction and have said nothing derogatory about the team. Best of luck.
Fight, fight, fight...........
Yeah, it was all kicking off there for a minute...
primarily celtic????? sorry but can everyone just cop on and realise that celtic never have paid any player, i'm sick of saying it, just because players want to come to a succesful team and go far in the f.a.i's and connaught cups doesn't mean there is money involved so get off this jealousy streak!!!! why would 7 players leave celtic so if they were getting money?? 2 players left after dykes was gone to go somewhere they could get money, get over it!!!! worry about your own club!!!
Wel said threefive two!!! Fahy fans/players should be more concerned about survival in the superleague next year rather than the financial situation of the bigger clubs!!! Do you think yal be allowed into game on Sunday threefivetwo??? haha.... how do you think it il go????
If you took time to actually read the posts rather than go into your customary indignant rant you´d realise the only Celtic person I mentioned being paid was Dykes. Going to deny that?? Also, I´m not in the slightest bit jealous of a club whose players ´leave ..... to go somewhere they could get money´.
I´ve already said I don´t want to get involved in a discussion about finances, also, this thread is about the Chadwicks Cup final, which difficult as it may be to come to terms with, features neither Fahy Rovers nor Castlebar Celtic.
Well lets get this thread back on track......
Lets see the results of the last few games these two sides played against each other. Despite what a few papers have mentioned this week, S&F were relegated in 2006 so didn't bounce straight back up as has been suggested.
History
2006 Super League:
17/06/106 Snugboro United 1 1 Straide & Foxford Snugboro P. Foley
John McCarthy_______________Michael Smyth
26/03/106 Straide & Foxford 1 1 Snugboro United Green Road, Foxford P. Foley
2005 Super League
10/07/105 Snugboro United 2 1 Straide & Foxford Snugboro H. Loftus
David Hickey _______________Alan McDonnell
John McCarthy
10/04/105 Straide & Foxford 2 2 Snugboro United Green Road, Foxford H. Loftus
Declan Tigue (2)______________ Declan Shaw (2)
But this doesn't really tell much, as both sides have changed a lot since then. Indeed Gary Byrne was in goal for the Boro last time these sides met and now he's the S&F Custodian.
Head 2 Head
So lets look at their record against teams they've both played this year. Namely Ballina Town, Iorrais Aontaithe, Urlaur United.
Ballina Town 2-1 Snugboro United
Snugboro 0-3 Ballina Town
Straide & Foxford 4-2 Ballina Town
S&F come out on top here. Impressive in their victory. Whilst Snugboro were badly beaten at home to Ballina. The other Snugboro contest was 50/50 with a last minute goal deciding it.
Iorras 0-1 Snugboro United
Snugboro 3-1 Iorras
Iorras 3-3 S&F (S&F win on Pens)
Snugboro come out on top here. Impressively beating Iorras twice this season. S&F managed a draw away from home(a good result usually down in Carnenash). Could S&F benefit from the Penalty Practice?
S&F 3-0 Urlaur
Urlaur 0-2 S&F
Urlaur 0-2 Snugboro
50/50 here. Second string Snugboro struggled to overcome Urlaur but S&F had similiar result away from home.
Recent Form
Snugboro have played 3 games in last two months(mid season break does nothing for no one, should be abolished.) They've won 2 of them(5-1, 5-2) and lost one(2-4 to Celtic)
S&F have played 6 games in the last two months. They've won 5 (7-0, 2-0, 4-0, 4-2, 3-0) and lost one(3-0 to Kilmore)
S&F probably have an advantage because of match practice. But then again, Snugboro have had better opposition? Its a tough one. The more I think about it, the harder it is to call.
Final Verdict
Plenty of respect for S&F and if they win it, they will of played very well because the Boro is buzzing.
Snugboro 2-0 Straide & Foxford
Stevie G Man of The Match

totally agree joe, snugboro to win. they are probably the best team ever..i love them.....
Two hardworking clubs who both fully deserve their place in Sundays final.
S&F have done themselves proud this season regardless of the result on Sunday.
Snugboro have also made great strides this season, shaking up the top end of the Super League and establishing themselves as a team to be taken very seriously next season.
With a bit of luck both clubs will build on their respective hard work and sucess this year and make the Super League a more competitive league as a result.
S&F 2-1.
tough 1 to call say the boro will win 3-0 :D
I'm going to go for S+F. 1-1 full time. 2-1 after extra time. Best of luck to both clubs.
im going with snf in the 90, cant see the boro handiling fitz and johnny. gavin will be a threat but thats all.
snf 3 - 1 boro
I reckon snugboro 3-2
id say SnF to win on penalties after a 3-3 draw in normal time
