Mine has to be the 94 Cup Final followed by Shams away in the cup last June
Home game V brugge in the 1994 cup winners cup. The most unbelievable athmosphere I ever witnessed at a rovers game. I remember the Brugge "Ultras" were well impressed with the shed that night! The noise made was amazing! I was only about 12 but that kinda night makes all the sh!t ya go through following the LOI worthwhile!:ball:
great thread BTW!
Would have to be the night the fence came down in front of the shed - Semi final of the cup against limerick 1994. last season Vs bohs was too shabby either
was at the final in 94 and can barely remember a minute so i suppose it either has to be that night we came back up in to the first division or against bohs last year
1983 Cup Final.
Harry's goal, Rovers second Still sends a shiver down my spine when I watch it on youtube.
End of.
Gotta agree with the lads that said the Brugge game in '94. I don't think I have ever seen an atmosphere anything coming close to it anywhere since. When Rovers scored the equaliser the place just went mental to put it lightly!
FAI Cup Final1968 Shamrock Rovers 3-0 Waterford United. Mick Leech final and almost killed in the crush.
Most disappointing, the League play off defeat by Cork Hibs in 1971.

in relation to the brugge game,
the craziest decision ever made by srfc was to knock the shed, when realisticaly there was nothig in the pipeline to replace it.
the shed was the heartbeat of the fans.
for many of us when we started going to the showgrounds a large part of going was the attraction of the shed,as eamonn sweeney said in his excellent book 'theres only one red army' you started out on the bottom steps of the shed and worked your way to the back over a period of time.
well in 93/94 i was about 17 and i had made my way to the the back of the stand. we had agreat crew going at the time and had some great nights, culminating in the brugge, limerick games and many more, it really saddens me its now gone.
over the subsequent years i drifted away from the shed because i didnt feel comfortable with the antics/atmosphere goin on in there. this is the main reason why i think it was knocked, certain people in power felt it was an easy way to quash the problem.
i watch all the games from the jinks ave stand and when i look around me i know 40 to 50 ex shedenders from that era who would go back to a new shed and join in the atmosphere but will never go to the treacey ave stand.
the game inthe brandywell on friday night reminded me alot of the atmosphere fom the 93/94 era because as the game wore on the fans could see the players battling really hard wheter they were doing it for themselves, the manager or the fans it didnt matter, but we could be proud of what was happening on the pitch. its always easier to sing when youre proud and you have something to believe in which is the same way we felt back then.
for too many years we have imported players who didnt give a toss, they had no pride in themselves the manager but especially us the fans. hopefully this crop of players can emulate what was achieved in 93/94 someday, because they definetly have the potential and also the manager to do so
'83 cup final for me too.
the goals , the pride ,the crowd, I could go on and on
Good selection of games
Some games that people may have forgotten and from my time following Rovers.
83' quarter final against Shams. Fago with free kick in the last few minutes to nick it two one and beat them for the first time in the cup.
The semi finals against Cobh of course
Clinching promotion against Kilkenny in 1990. Keely couldnt get over the crowd in the Showgrounds.
The cup games against Cork and Cobh in 1994 at the Showgrounds.
Beating Derry one nil on a Sunday afternoon in 1995 under Sanchez. The Showgrounds really was the 12th man that day. The same season beating Shams two nil in a midweek cup replay in the Showgrounds. Eddie getting two penos at the Shed end!
Getting bet on penos by Shels in the League cup final in '96 and wining it under Nick Reid.
1983 Cup Final!!!! it had everything except good weather! Dalyer made the showgies pitch look like a green at augusta!
Although the result didnt go with us the away game at brugge was great - their supporters treated us really well and we sang our hearts out.
Have to say srfc1928 youre bang on about the shed. On thing I distintly remember about the brugge was the amount of atmosphere and singing at the game, especially from the shed. After brugge scored i think Red Army / Red Army was sang for over half an hour. in recent years the shed seemed to have a few tools hanging about alrite.
Like yourself the Jinks avenue stand is now my preffered vantage point, with a lot of ex-sheders about there. Its a pity that the lads with the drums and who do all the singin dont come to the Jinks avenue stand cause you can be sure that theses ex-shedres would definetly join in!
Whats this tread about again?
Killester United cup quarter final replay in 2006.
What a game. What an atmosphere. And the revival of bognor regis.
