Predictions Cup 1st Round (starts 14th June)
I'm going to run a cup competition this year as well as the league. It will run similarly to the cup competition in the Euro 2008 predictions except that the scores will not count towards the main competition. To enter, just predict the scores in the 16 ties of the FAI Cup Second Round below. To allow for a tie-breaker, please predict the time of the first goal in the round as well.
The basic idea is that this will be a knock-out competition. If you get more points than your opponent, you go through to the next round, get less and you're out. There are five rounds of the FAI Cup which would allow for 32 players in this round. If more people enter (and going by previous weeks, this is quite likely), I'll use the League Cup quarter finals as an extra round and allow 64 players to start. This is the maximum though, so only the first 64 people to post their predictions for this round can take part.
If a tie is drawn (both players get the same score), they will have to predict the score in any replays. If they're still level, the number of games predicted perfectly (i.e. a 2-1 home win predicted, and a 2-1 home win happens, etc.) will decide, if still level, the time of the first goal in the round (as reported on fai.ie/eircomloi.ie) will decide who goes through. This probably won't be necessary for early rounds but for the semis and particularly the final, it's quite possible that it could be required.
