Discussions have begun between Fingal County Council and representatives of Shelbourne FC and Clonliffe Harriers about the possibility of Shelbourne making Morton Stadium in Santry their home ground.

Negotiations are at an early stage and are focusing on how athletics and soccer might co-exist in the same stadium.

The clubs and the Council are examining how the current arrangements for athletics training and competitions would be protected during Shelbourne's home fixture schedule, if the move goes ahead

Sounds about two years old. Certainly nothing that wasn't known for a long time.

surely they should be accomodting the GAA - bloody hell, why not, after all the hard work they do in Fingal and now the council shun them like this

Wouldn't a move to the newly revamped RDS be a better move for Shels, back to their original area. Not sure if a ground-sharing deal could be done with Leinster, but the two codes hardly overlap.

And their styles of play aren't a million miles apart either....hard to tell at times whether or not Shels are playing rugby or football;)

way out of their budget and closed for the horsies mid season.

If they could groundshare with pats the two clubs could turn inchicore into a proper stadium and they would be back on the southside.Inter and ac share,why not shels and pats?

inter and milan share a communal stadium 50/50 with overall control in the hands of the commune of milan. the stadium was puropse built for that function after the wc in 1990.

pats letting shels in is a totally different scenario. look closer to home for potential italian style sharing.

I still think it would be beneficial for both clubs because pats fans clearly want to stay in inchicore and develop the ground and as we know all to well morton stadium is not a football stadium,its a kip!There is hardly any shels fans out there anyway.

...which would rule out any interest that Shels would have in setting up a permanent home there. Pats are currently the only club in the capital that have any kind of genuine connection with their surrounding community - I doubt they'd wish to compromise that by inviting Ollie and Co to move in full-time.

I can see Shels sruggling for quite a while to settle in in Santry, but long-term I can see them having a far better chance of truely establishing themselves in Dublin 9 than they ever had in Dublin 7.

Anyone know how long a lease Shels are looking for from Fingal Co Council?

No idea,nothing on the shels website either.until they go bankrupt i would imagine.

Once the gaylickers stop their blatant attempt to sabotage our plans to move in to tallaght we will be in business, while shels die away out in santry, pats sit in their run-down ground and bohs,well who cares what bohs do:D

Morton Stadium is pretty tiny though... The stadium consists of a small covered stand with 800 seats and three sides of open terracing, bringing the total capacity up to around 10,000. They would have to bring the seated capacity up to at least 2,000 wouldn't they? And even at that, they wouldn't be allowed any more for European ties.
