The Rules Compliance Commission of the Football Association of Ireland yesterday imposed a fine of €3,000.00 and the suspension from the Technical Area as Manager for four (4) matches in domestic competitions on Mr Damien Richardson, Manager of Cork City F.C, for misconduct following an FAI Carlsberg Cup game, arising from comments which were critical of an eircom League referee and the Football Association of Ireland and which were published in the media.
The comments were made after an FAI Carlsberg Cup tie between Longford Town and Cork City F.C. In light of Mr Richardson’s good character and apology to the referee in question and the FAI the three members of the Rules Compliance Commission, chosen from an independent panel, reduced the fine from €5,000.00 to €3,000.00 and suspension from the Technical area as Manager from six (6) games to four. This suspension will come into effect from Monday 10th July.
The Football Association of Ireland wishes to express their disappointment at the comments made by Mr Richardson, however they have accepted Mr Richardson’s unreserved apology to both the Association and the eircom League referee.
Mr Richardson does have the right to appeal this decision.
