Anyone ever in this particular pub in Belfast? I must say that it is a very well preserved old fashioned pub with a very ornate interior and all the tables are bordered by partitions. I bought a t-shirt and I got a free key ring for my visit.:) If you are ever in Belfast, you should pop into this famous alehouse. It is managed by Bass Ireland and owned by the National Trust. Please note that the wearing of football garments is strictly prohibited.:eek:
A MAte of mine from Australia tried to get me to go in on my first visit to the north and I Balked at the name(fearing for my saftey) He tried to convince me that they were a tolerant lot in there, and I tried to convince him that it was because he was Australian,he was non-perturbed and he is well versed in Irish History and well aware of the troubles so I was quite surprised at his niaveity. Was I wrong?

I'd call into the crown at least once a week prior to the old bus trip home to Derry. Nice pub, good conversation and nobody gives a hoot who you are. Next door is Robinsons - no problems there - with fibber Magees at the back of it, playing traditional music. Generally seen as a very safe environment with taxis easy to get outside.
yeah both the crown and robinsons are good friendly bars aswell as the bars around the university area just up from it. If you cant get a pint in that area or find a bar you like theirs something wrong with you.

I happened to be out on the drink with some Dub mates in a well known RUC bar in Enniskillen years ago and when I finished my bottle of beer I said something I had never said before.....

I did some research on it before visiting, including some advice from a belle from Belfast city, and it was deemed perfectly safe for me to enter. AFAIK, the city centre pubs in Belfast have little or no political leanings. Maybe if you went to a pub on the Falls/Shankill Road, you may encounter problems, if you discuss politics.Quote:
