TV money

There's a very interesting thread after starting on Bert Kassies' new forum about how much each league gets for TV rights. So far, approx figures are...

France - approx. 600.000.000 EUR
England - approx. 550.000.000 EUR
Germany - approx. 300.000.000 EUR
Belgium - approx. 34.600.000 EUR
Austria - approx. 13.600.000 EUR
Romania - approx. 6.800.000 EUR (8m USD)
Switzerland - approx. 4.300.000 EUR (6.6m CHF)
Bulgaria - approx. 600.000 EUR
Ireland - approx. 260.000 EUR

Apart from the top three, the countries aren't that much bigger than Ireland - certainly not proportionately bigger. Still, when a Belgian team on average can expect E2m in telly money in one season - about what the top Irish club would turnover in a season - and we can be knocked out on away goals and by one goal in the two recent meetings, it shows that there's a lot of potential in the league...

Incidentally, I gave the E260 figure - it's based on 20 league games @ E5k each, two teams in the Setanta Cup @ E30k each and Shels in the Setanta @ E100k (not sure what they got for runners-up). The rest of the figures are for league only...

Interesting stats.

Derry and Cork would have lifted a good bit this year from live games. How many times were they shown and does the away side get a cut?

I think we were only side not shown in a live game this year. Probably a good thing in all fairness but they should have shown one of the derby games. The last one in Finn Park and the one in the Brandywell would have made television.

Pineapple wasn't there a general figure to be divided amongst all clubs as well as the individual payments to clubs?

Don't think so, unless you're thinking of the increased prize money.

i think someone said that 13 of Citys 16 games were away so other clubs probably made more than City i'd say. Most of our games were TG4 jobs afaik !!

That's for 30 matches being televised. There were 44 live games televised this season and 3 had a deferred broadcast.

I think they funded the extra prize money from the 400k. Did the 5k per match also come out of that 400k

44 games * 5k = 220k.

prize money for the league much in order of 200-250k?

Attendance and viewing figures show increases

The FAI have announced details of television viewing figures for the season just gone and the new television deal did attract interest.

The highest viewed game was the league decider between Cork City and Derry City, drawing 355,000 viewers at its peak with the highest attendance figure for a league game of just over 8,000. Sunday's FAI Cup final peaked at 285,000 and had almost 25,000 in attendance. The average viewing figure for the final was 179,000.

No, that's just the prize money. This is TV rights money in addition to prize money.

Prize money breakdown is here. E233k for the Premier, E81k for the First Division, E27.5k for the League Cup, E13k for the Fair Play. Nothing mentioned for the FAI Cup, but would surely bring us up to E400k? Although it does then note 17 live games @ E5k each and lump that in to come up with E450k.

Actually, nine of City's 14 games were at home!

Also, I suppose only domestic games would be a fairer comparison to the other figures. That's 23 games @E5k each = E115k.

D'oh ... was that another year so, or was it even the other City (Derry) .. but then again ... it is quite possible i just got it wrong, had read a post on ccfc.ie forum, must have been speed reading again. :p

I would imagine that Italy and Spain would be close to the top as well

Makes you wonder where the eircom sponsorship cash goes...?

I would imagine that's the case in other leagues as well. But the other figures are for the TV deal alone. They'd be even higher if you included prize money.

Cant understand why any of the munster derbies between the blues and cork were not shown this year, these games are always crackers and great advertisements for the league :mad: .

Revised figures so far follow. Long-term, the eL should certainly be looking at E2m per year minimum, which would give the clubs an extra E100k per year (assuming all 22 clubs get a share). That's about 10% of an average Premier Division club's budget.

If someone like Setanta wanted to show 1 game per weekend & some extras thrown in so maybe 50 games per season would need �40k per game. i think thats very similar to the figure they paying for Setanta Cup.

Anyone know what they paying for Celtic League?
