Fantastic finishes by Dennehy for Rovers and Williams for Fingal.
Sligo two weekends in a row. Funtimes!
You'd wanna bring down a load of mon dogs.
Rovers home to Galway or Salthill, happy with that although I wouldn't have minded a trip to the wesht for a session.
Full draw:
Rovers Vs. Mons
Shams Vs. Galway/Salthill
Pats Vs. Fingal/Limerick
Bohs Vs. Bray
Will be some semi-final line-up if all the favourites progress. Which is what the FAI would have wanted(so as to have a big crowd for the final in Lansdowne)...fix anyone? ;)
Worst possible final in terms of an attendance would be Salthill v Fingal. Dont necessarilly think that the four favourites would bring the biggest crowd. I reckon if it was a Monaghan United v Limerick final you would get a good crowd of people going to support their county even though they may not be football fans, the same could be said of Galway.
Rovers v Rovers final is being lined up, maximising the potential crowd in the Aviva, more €€€€€ for the FAIlure. Well that's my theory anyway.
The way the draw shaped up it looks like there might be a European spot for the team who finishes 4th in the league
So Mons fly the flag for the first division in the FAI Ford Cup...Just checking the "f" is working on my laptop!
Yup it is Steve. 2 games away from it! Whooohoooo. Sorry, a bit excited.
If we dont win it then i hope that is the case :) ( that is if we finish fourth )
Sligo Vs. Monaghan , Monaghan could get a result there and its a tricky tie for Sligo.
Rovers Vs. Galway Rovers are favourites but Galway have beaten Bohs so could cause an upset.
Pats Vs. Fingal Too close to call, could go to a replay.
Bohs Vs. Bray Bohs would be confident of beating Bray but Bray like Monaghan could cause an upset.
Yeah, Lansdowne Road on November 14
though you would have to wonder if it was a say a Sporting Fingal v Monaghan final whether the FAI would switch it back to Tallaght
The FAI must be praying for Bohs vs Rovers because that's the only fixture that would reach 50% capacity and make decent money for them, though Pats in the final at the expense of one of those teams would be the next best thing financially
If they could arrange for Wayne Rooney to come on and wave to the crowd at half-time you'd probably fill the place.
Did anyone else notice what Doolin said last night?
He commented on how a couple of years ago the league was 'great' and that it was mostly the worldwide recession that caused it all to fall apart. It really is depressing (if predictable) to see guys like that completely fail to get it.
If fairness to Doolin, even when he was winning the league with Drogheda he was a miserable old fool.
He's right that the standard of player was better then. Not so sure about the quality of football - I think he's just looking at the big teams, which have gotten noticeably worse, and forgetting that the smaller teams this year have been playing some excellent football, albeit with more limited players.
