Brought a decent crowd to Dublin for the first game of this tournament, and that was a monday night.
Right decision to play it in Cork rather than Dublin
Hopefully Glentoran can get 500 as Saturday will help as thats their usual game day. Obviously evening ko won't help so much.
I would not have complained if we had to travel to Belfast but it was FAI turn this year to host it. Our nearest group games have been in Dublin & have previously has to travel to Belfast & Dublin foe semi final & final so seems fair to hold it at the cross.
Hopefully we can get 5000 & the St Annes End roof is completed in time. The last national final at the cross was the league cup against Shamrock Rovers in the mid-late 90s when we has a full house.
Cork is only an hour away from Belfast by plane.
This is going to be an exciting cup final in front of a big crowd (including good away support) in an A1 (by Irish standards) football ground.
The FAI Cup final is going to pale in comparsion to this.
Is it cost efficient to charter a plane these days?.
I'm confident our friends in Belfast will turn up in big numbers - how many big games do they get to travel to each year.
Plus I'm sure they are dying to see first hand if the Republic (TPROC that is) is everything it's cracked up to be.
No, its not cost effective to charter/fly. Ridiculous to assume most fans would fly
Those flights don't include overnight accomodation too?
I think the venue decision will affect future IL involvement in setanta cup. To give team such an advantage is a disgrace.
I think thats a bit reactionary to be honest. The Cross is the best venue out of LOI clubs. Its the FAIs turn this year and City are in the final. Its not the end of the world in all fairness. Glentoran are a good team who has started their season fairly well, City will raise their game for this and it should result in a great game of ball.
All are welcome in Cork, and all City fans know the travel thats involved so i'm sure they'll do everything to accommodate people. Every other team City have played for the Irish League their fans have been superb so i wouldn't expect anything different from Glens.
