Other than picking Stan at centre-back, I wouldn't have thought there is much to question there if he didn't overlap with Paul McGrath.

Did anyone else hear Kilbane on Off the Ball saying he had no recollection of Mick McCarthy telling Irwin he needed to prove himself at half time during Argentina game in '98?

That Kilbane has no recollection doesn't mean much. Mick's comment was made post match.
Up to that game Irwin wasn't in the first team and had been arguing his case to Mick. After that game he was on the starting team.
