Idah, as well as Omobamidele are fit and available for tomorrow's game vs Swansea. Unfortunately for Idah in Smith's press conference he says his medical staff now call Idah a joint-compromised athlete.
Idah, a 21-year-old international striker, has endured a torrid two years through various long-term injuries and Smith acknowledged his medical staff now treat the academy product as “a joint-compromised athlete” meaning his physical load will need to be managed as he “gets a bit of fluid on the knee every now and then”
That's from the Athletic. Hopefully it's something they can manage. He's on the bench today anyway and Norwich are playing 4-3-1-2 so good chance he could see game time today anyway.
Came on at 80 minutes today, one nice run at the end. Looks fit. Terrible for Smith to be labeling a young player like that, could be detrimental for future career moves etc, keep that stuff behind closed doors. Also, periodic tapping of his joint effusions could simply be temporary and he’ll be fine in a few months.
Okoflex doing okay for a 20 year old. Nice to see him getting game time. Has he been in under 21 squad yet?
Manning not a senior international
Big Andy should hopefully break back into the team shortly
I googled "joint compromised" just to see exactly what it meant. Not a huge amount came up. This video suggests that it's a term used to describe an athlete's vulnerability after an injury or surgery, e.g., ACL, and it means you need a tailored rehab avoiding unnecessary stresses on the affected area.
I'm not sure it necessarily means it's a permanent thing or if it is it might just mean a certain training regime is needed.
It’s not a formal medical diagnosis just a made up descriptive phrase highlighting the need for Idah to be managed carefully with a tailored plan and his risk of future injuries. A bit unnecessary to label your 21 year old striker like that
It does give him a get out of jail card when fans complain about why he's not playing more - they're managing his condition
In the starting 11 tonight. I think a goal or two in the coming weeks could see him regain some confidence. An important time for him with the changes at Norwich.
Idah scores!
l
Just what he needed. Poor first half per reports, hopefully he can push on now
Still dividing opinion on the Norwich forum; obviously the goal helps, but the views that he's a handful are slightly outweighed by those that one swallow doesn't make a summer. And of course injury (and the bizarre "compromised athlete" comment) not helping right about now for sure.
Idah needs to stay fit, not that youd be confident about it going on dean smiths comments, cant remeber a manager damaging a player with a comment like that before. Idah has a lot of strengths, and plenty of flaws, but theyre all irrelevant if he's not playing much football, which he hasnt for the past 2 years.
The goal is here
Really impressive link up play throughout the game from Idah
Really nice finish. He has the materials to be a very good player. The link up play looked decent on those highlights as well. He needs a really good coach to improve him and I think confidence is an issue. I'm not basing that on anything only a feeling I have but a finish like that can only help.
Idah might get a few minutes against Preston if the Canaries maintain their 3-0 lead.
I wonder if S Kenny is at this one -- 6 Republic of Ireland players between the two squads.
Disappointing though that the new manager comes in, Idah is benched, and Norwich score 4...
Same story this week - benched and Norwich go 3-0 up after 20 minutes away from home.
(Back to 3-2 now)
If that's the way it's too be until May, I think he should probably start looking for a move. He's been too long getting 15 minutes here and there
Given how long he’s been out and the fact he’s “compromised” I wouldn’t be in too much of a rush for him to move on. Staying fit is the most important thing. I think he’ll get another run of starts in the next few weeks.
Early days with new manager and he has been getting lengthy sub appearances. Norwich are flying again with the new guy. Idah should stay certainly through the summer and see if he can force his way in
New deal to 2028

Well, if nothing else, he should be financially set for life even if the football career doesn't end up living up to the early hopes.
1.5 million over five years, I'll take that thanks very much!
don't forget it'll be taxed at the highest rate
If we had a whip around, he might start posting here to boost his income during this troubled period as a new millionaire.
A euro per word seems fair. Two Euros per word if the post gets more than 600,000 thumbs up in a 24 hour time period.
It was a manager who was about to get the road who said that & probably knew his time was near, so who knows what politics were in the mix by that stage & he never said if it was the current situation or an ongoing one with Idah. This suggests Idah isn't the crock he was made out to be and that Norwich are fairly sure he'll turn out fine, which would be lovely. Didn't see this one coming at all, brilliant news.
Starts for Pukki tonight, who's on the bench. Don't know what brought that on exactly, but has to be good chance for him.
They're 1-0 down at home to a Hull side missing Aaron Connolly to injury though
He was good overall. His work rate was excellent, prob should have done better with a chance he had in 2nd half but he got the full 90 mins. The commentators on the stream I was watching were very impressed by him, especially his work rate and link up play.
I did think his movement still needs a lot of work, his instincts dont really dont seem to be brilliant but he is big, strong, fast and skillful.
Maybe with the confidence of getting a few starts he will kick on and get to where he seemed to be heading before he got injured last season.
Starts again with Pukki unavailable. Sargent hauled off at halftime, but it's still 0-0 away to relegation battlers Wigan
Another 85 minutes today, but not directly involved in either goal.
Pukki came on as a second half sub; I think he's had a knock the past couple of weeks (as has Sergeant) and it'll be interesting to see what happens next week.
Omobamidele came on as a late sub, as he did in midweek; not sure what's happened there that he's lost his place?
He was supposed to have been poor a couple of games ago, but wasn’t the worst. Seems to have been sacrificed rather than Hanley. His class should shine through though. Hanley and Gibson don’t have anywhere close to the talent Andy has. That injury took a lot out of him though
