Remember hearing that when Longford were starting out they sought help from other clubs and Bohs sent them a set of jerseys (red and black) and that they retained the colours to this day. Longford county colours are blue and yellow and are reflected in the away gear if I recall correctly ?Quote:

Its pretty obvious that it would be to try and connect with a broader community. Might grab some limited attention in more rural areas or counties especially where there is just the one club and carries the same name as the county eg Longford. Kilkenny City, Kildare County, Dublin City, Monaghan United were all roaring successes and dabbled in cross code colours marketing. Galway United play in the maroon of the county GAA colours, Waterford in Blue and White, Thurles Town were blue and gold. Maybe O'Neills talked clubs in to it back in the day when designs never mind colours were similar.
Didnt Tom Coghlan fly the idea of Cork City changing their main colours to red and white? If Dundalk tried it we'd be in red and white also!! An Offaly club would have an interesting kit.
Limerick wore red and white Stripes originally until Waterford went bust and they bought their kits. Limerick used to wear red and white striped away kits although recent years has seen us wear green 🙄Quote:

I like the Pats kit, massive improvement on that dreadful blue yoke of the last couple of seasons that was near identical to certain Limerick and Waterford ones.
They can absolutely g'way looking for 65 quid for it though.

Premier league clubs are sponsored by manufacturers in that the likes of Nike, Adidas play the clubs a set amount per year for the rights to make their kit then they get the actual proceeds from sales and not the clubs.
Then there's the possibility that clubs have a deal either with a supplier or a third party so that they buy kit at x quid per item and sell for y to make profit.
I'm not privy to the exact nature of deals clubs get here but I'd doubt brands are lining up to get to buy the rights from the likes of Longford, no offence, to produce their kit so it's likely that smaller clubs for sure and maybe even the bigger clubs unless they're with a local or small supplier use the latter method or something similar.

Harps find it very hard to keep any significant stock of jerseys in the club shop. Last couple of seasons in particular has seen huge sales in the club shop.
I think there was a figure of €12,000 made in profit by the club shop for last season alone.
I wouldnt be surprised if Cabo have one of the biggest profits on jerseys in the league, they have something like 60 teams and over 1000 shirt sales there before they start to kit out the LOI team.Quote:

It was said in the past to purchase from the club shop if at all possible so that the club get the benefit of sales rather than a private retailer. I'm not sure how it works but you'd think that regardless of where a Dundalk jersey was bought that the club should get a cut.
I agree, because some people abused the offer the whole thing was stopped. It would have been pretty easy to make the schoolboy season tickets a completely different colour rather than the wee U12 mark on the ticket. Its a bit different from a 14 or 15 year old trying to pass for u12. It showed that they werent being scanned properly too. Another 'scam' was someone entering the ground and then passing the season ticket to someone else at the players entrance or through the gate at Hiney Park to walk round and the same season ticket used twice. Again having the scanners working properly would have solved that issue and then just confiscate the ticket. The other thing with the u12 stickets was that they were to be accompanied with an adult ticket holder so why not check the 2 tickets together. How any parents would allow their u12s go to a game unaccompanied even in a group of friends or how the club would risk allowing entry to unaccompanied u12 is beyond me.Quote:
