I didn't take from the FAI statement that they had fallen down- they just won't be considered unless somebody drops out. I can't understand the logic behind that at all.

Hmm, that release tells precisely nothing about why Cobh or Tralee were excluded - as Legendz says, there would be no complaints if they failed the licensing criteria, but when it goes on to say that the process hasn't been completed yet, things don't add up. Galway had five days to appeal after they were put in the A Championship, if I remember correctly, so looks like that and lobbying the clubs are their only two options. As things stand, once the U-19 season ends, they're only left with the KDL and MSL respectively.
KDL and MSL, so will they be allowed to take part in the league cup like last season, hardly. And what about the FAI cup, what level will they come in at......? Jeez what a mess
Cobh definitely owe players money. They haven't attempted to contact at least two of those players - though as was mentioned they haven't even begun the licensing review process. strange
Utterly bizarre, it would be understandable if Cobh and Tralee simply hadn't met the licensing requirements, but willingly going for an 8 team league and excluding the two of them is a shocking decision by the FAI.
Who are they trying to fool with this SD Galway malarky on the fixture list anyway... what a shambles.
Interesting theory by a Galway fan that actually seems like a plausible reason why the FAI are insisting on 8 teams:
Quote:
There is a good chance that this was another obstacle put in the way to ensure that we did not get a licence this year. As it has already been mentioned there is a precedent set that a late application was accepted before by the fai. So if we had taken legal action it is likely the fai would have just said its an 8 team league so you still cant join. If they let the other clubs in then they would have to let us in as well.
Also- Harps home fixtures are on Saturday nights, not Fridays.
It does seem plausible alright.Quote:

3 points to start with anyway in Limerick.
Always thought the ten team league was a terrible format but this takes the biscuit just goes to show you what Delaney and his minions know about the game sweet FA!
To give fortune...never hostages?
First, let me assure you that this is not one of those shady pyramid schemes you've been hearing about. No sir. Our model is the trapezoid!
Fortune to hostages: never give.
I have it on good authority that if there was 10 teams in the FD this year, there was only going to be three rounds of fixtures, so that would only have meant 27 games for each team.
While playing everyone four times is a bit much, it does at least mean there is a 'fairness' with equal number of home and away games.
why either Tralee or Cobh havent taken over Galway Utd's spot I will never know!
Tralee Dynamos did not "fall down", F.A.I. to visit Tralee on 3rd of Feb. Club Licence decision on 5th of Feb. -
Preparation for A Championship 3 years of A Championship, Under 20 League & Under 19 League. Players developing their potential for 7 years with the help of F.A.I. Emerging Talent Program. 8 Players representing Ireland at under age level.
Progressive development a success for 7 years - what now? We took this journey with Mr. John Delaney in 2004 when he came to Tralee, we heard his plans that included Kerry soccer's participation in National League on the agenda for the first time in the history of the F.A.I. by developing home grown talent.. We did it!!!!where do we go John????
From what you are saying Tralee should be very, very ****ed off if they are not accepted in.
Can Tralee financially support a LOI team for the coming season? If the answer is yes then they should be allowed in to compete. If not then it is not a risk worth taking for Tralee Dynamos if you ask me. Not yet anyway.
Agree Tralee should be allowed in, Fai seem to be making it up as they go along it seems. I wonder did Fai Put pressure on Carlow to withdraw? they seemed that they would get a licence, then using Buckley park became an issue and it went all quite from them.
Fai should have planned for 12 team league ( if cobh & Gust) didn't get licence, then have a 10 team league, having a 8 team league is madness
I wonder did Fai consider a 20 team premier rather than having a 12 team & 8 team league?
Surely it could have been set as a ten team first division including Cobh and Tralee in the provisional situation. Then if they fail to get a licence, they dont take part. Setting it as a 8 team league maximum is just plain stupid. Money, time and resources wasted by those clubs.
It seems to be a merger of Salthill Devon and GUFC LTD. It was around town yesterday that the 2 clubs merged long ago, but that info was withheld from GUST to see if they could get them on board also. Apparently Nick Leeson & co. has got a place on the board at this new entity. The Galway FA will be well pee'd off at this news, as they thought they wouldn't see his like again. GUST did well to dodge that bullet! Insider trading at its worst.
Both the Examiner and the Times confirm this is the first that either Cobh or Tralee have heard of the decision - I particularly love Fran Gavin's opinion that both clubs would be lowering the quality of the First Division:
On the decision to make it an eight- rather than 10-team division, Gavin said: "There is no point taking in teams or expanding it for the sake of it. We want to maintain the standard that’s in it. Where we are at the moment is eight clubs and that’s it."
I'd like to hear a reason given for not having a league to replace the A Championship. Throwing clubs on the scrapheap after years of hard work is wrong. The clubs have a bit to answer as well. They should work together to lobby for an interim league. A Limerick supporter said yesterday a reserve league should quickly be put together. Sound comment from the lad. It would at least give clubs a level to play in.
Feel extremely sorry for both Tralee and Cobh - what the hell have these kind of clubs got to do to get admission to the League?
Delaney keeps harping on with the line of "We care about Irish Football" - like hell they do...
After all the **** that comes out of their mouths they still continue to amaze me to this day. If Lesson has anything to do with this new merger the FAI need to be lined up in front of a firing squad. Maybe cobh should have a chat with Tom Coughlan and then the FAI might grant them entry.
Shocking Stuff hang your heads in shame and as for Fran on a Personal level give it up it makes it even worse.

without the mad fees fines and affiliation it could be done, Tralee, Cobh, Carlow & GUST. Tralee were really led up the proverbial path, welocme to la la land, and its rumoured this morning Salthill are getting a 400k sweetener for development in drom even though club numbers are dropping, and Terryland for free to represent Galway but no one in Galway wants them representing them
I would prefer 2*10 team leagues, need something to fight for in the First division and something to fear in the Premier otherwise we could have a club like East Stirling just ticking away at the bottom with little fear of relegation.
Ye keep saying this but ye have absolutely nothing to back it up at all....How can ye know that people that followed GUFC wont follow them next season?
And people that are complaining about Cobh the FAI had no choice they owed money to players no deal was agreed so as hard as it is to say the FAI were right on that one....Not a dig at Cobh by the way as i was really hoping that they would get in.
