Macroom B 2 Village United 2 (Village win 4-2 on penalties)
Macroom B so nearly pulled off a giant killing when they took premier A side Village United all the way before losing on penalites.
In fact, the home side can feel slightly aggrieved that they found themselves out of this prestigous competition. The home side started brightly, and Village were not allowed the time they wanted on the ball. Patrick Burns and Barry Fitzgerald led from the front, making sure the Village defence did not get the time they wanted on the ball. Both sides were getting plenty of set plays, with first Macroom forcing a series of corners and free kicks, but to no avail. Then the away side got their share, again the scoreline remained deadlocked. The home side hit the front, when a superb long ball from Peter Burns found the energetic Barry Fitzgerald, whose chest set him up perfectly to sublimely chip the onrushing keeper Graham Murphy in the Village net on 27. Daniel Downey was causing all sorts of problems on the left flank with his direct running. The premier A side seemed shocked and Macroom continued to snuff out their danger from set plays. The home side nearly got their second, when a Patrick Burns effort was well saved on 31. They did however get their second on 33, when a free kick from John Ronan came back off the wall to him, and he lashed his volley passed Murphy to set up a great platform for the B's. The feeling was if they could hold their two goal lead until half time, the upset was on. But Village did get one back before half time, when a free kick was deflected off the Macroom wall into the path of Thomas Dinian, who finished well.
The second half found Village enjoying a lot of possession, but Macroom were defending resolutely, and trying to hit Village on the break.Eric Cambridge and Ian Long were performing well, and were enjoying more possession as the half wore on. Village got their equaliser on 72, when it was Ian Long who found some space on the right flank, and his cross come shot found the top corner. A great goal. Village were pressing now, and had a few long range efforts easily saved. Macroom had Burns to thank in goals for giving them extra time, when he pulled off an excellent reaction save to deny Kieran O'Callaghan's header. Extra time was even, with both side continuing with some excellent on the ground football. Denis Cronin was unlucky when he just ran out of grass after being played through by a brilliant Brendan O'Mahony pass. Patrick Burns had a chance to win it for Macroom, but his shot was snuffed out by an excellent tackle from Derry O'Gorman. Penalties were required with Village winning out in the lottery. An excellent combative free flowing game, with best performers for Macroom all fourteen men, with the same for Village.
Suprised by the Ballyv and b/stone result. I played in the games last year and they were very tight affairs so my old clubs new signings must be having a significant affect. Not suprised about Paddy in the middle, a quality player. Were ye missing anyone Horse ?
i know you were olachico i shook your hand after game as i did vincie forde, still dont know why this utter rubbish was said,to me blackstone will always be a tough team to play and to beat that was proven last season, one man team absolutely not skilly can score forde a handfull and beven a good defender. on saying that a brilliant result for ballyvolane and the football at times was top drawer and for your centre back to say we were the best team to play yee so far says it all, best of luck for rest of season,
i honestly dont know but the only laugh i had was when our centre back skived a back pass unintentionally back to or keeper and yee wanted a free.,also from what i hear there was a few words between you and j c,dad that wasnt plesent either, look game is over now onwards and upwards for both teams.best of luck.
no bother at all point taken ,no offence meant ,talk soon
Shetland, We were disapointed in lots of things about yesterday........not least the scoreline. We genuinely thought we had a good chance to win it. We learned things and hopefuly we wont feel this bad next weekend!!
A week is a long time in football....................
Thanks ghost ya we probably wanted it more in the end run good to get a win over our northside friends ........well looking forwarding to another battle against another noorie team should be another good game against Ballvolane....................
Any report on the Leeds V Glenthorn game ?
Thats unfortunate, was interested to hear how the 8 goals had come about.
Plenty of goals being scored in the premier divisions either way . . .
draw made.. a few interesting ties:ball:
Yes indeed a few nice AOH ties.
When you anticipate cup draws, of course you want a team from your own division or a lower division.
So, in theory, we had 10 teams we didnt want in the three cups................
Ballyvolane, Wilton & Grattan!! I worked it out to be a 1000/1 shot that we would draw 3 Premier sides.
The Grattan game is one to look forward to - the fear beag and his buddies. We had a good tussle in pre-season & we both had similar late disapointments to Leeside recently. We are over our defeat of last weekend now, it hurts a bit still for me because we didnt do ourselves justice.
So we head into the Wilton game at the weekend and beyond to O Neill Park with the belief we can get something in both games. Two really hard games, but these are the kinda games you want in football.
first league game away to knockavilla saturday.first time this season we ad a full squad training last night everyone back from holidays and injuryies our season starts saturday.....
Yup have to agree no more excuses we heard them all early on wit players injured and been on holidays ......expecting big things from Macroom this year
Well you did tip yourselves for a top 5 finish or even a big challenge for the title!!!!
Will be watching on eagerly Holden

Most games straight forward really but fancy blackstone to give grattan a scare and also carrigaline to give macroom a good game
Just wondering lads if anyone can help me on this, We have a player wanting to transfer to us but the Manager from the other team as far as i know is trying to block it as the player in question got sent off for them end of last season and he's trying to say the player cant leave till he pays the fine???
I was under the illusion the CLUB gets fined and its up to them to pay any money owed to the AUL?????

Mario, when we took Villa players when the club folded, the fine came with them. That rule is a complete contradiction and a crap one. The player is fined, but the club is responsible. So how come the fine came to us with the players???
In your case, Rule 19(a) says no player can move unless he satisfies all financial claims of the club for which he has last played.
Maybe because it happened last season, and at the end of the season all players become free agents - it could be a loophole. I dunno.
He should pay his fine though - he got sent off. If ye want him, then maybe ye should pay it, but what chance he is gonna pay ye if he didnt pay them? We didnt get all the Villa money from the players!!!
Bohemians 2-0 Castleview
Good win today and a good 3 points against a young Castleview team.Could of been 2 or 3 up after the first 15 mins a great start infairness to us but we did nt punish Castleview with those chances. They should have taken the lead after 25 mins but their forward put it wide when being one on one. That gave us the wake up call we needed and we took our chance when Christy Drisscoll scored on 40mins to put us 1 up
2nd half we started well again and scored after about 55 mins when Deccie Gostel scored his 4th goal of the season with a very confident finish. We seemed to die after that and got a bit sloppy and only for our keeper Dave Cronin and some last ditch challenges from our centre half Midgy Boo the game could have been a lot different. So thats us still unbeaten this season and look forward to our next game which i think is Ballyvolane in the quarters of the Mossie Lin.........

Macroom A and B match reports..
AUL Premier League
Knockavilla 1 Macroom 5
by Denis Canty
After a difficult Mossie Linnane Cup run, and certain quarters suggesting that Macroom might be out of their depth in the Premier League, this Macroom side silenced their critics, with a blistering performance away to sweep aside Knockavilla.
But Macroom did not have it all their own way. Knockavilla hit the front after three minutes, when a header from Robert Walsh looped over Macroom keeper Dean Knight. Macroom came roaring back however, and scored two goals inside six minutes. First, when a sublime whipped cross from Darrell Holden found Keith Holden, whose header arrowed into the bottom corner on 7. Two minutes later, the away side used the direct route, when a kick out from Knight deceived the Knockavilla defence, and Keith Holden header lobbed the onrushing keeper. The rest of the half saw less of the goals, but the same level of Macroom dominance in possession. The closest either side came was when a sublime half volley from Darrell Holden was kept out by fingertips.
The second half continued in the same vein, with Macroom enjoying lots of possession, and Tommy Pittam and Martin Corcoran marshalling the dangerous Robert Walsh. The away side had a series of corners in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. And this pressure led to reward on 58, when a good corner from Paul Healy was nodded home by Keith Holden to complete his hatrick. Macroom got their fourth on 70, when a free kick from Healy was well saved, but Martin Corcorans resulting effort was deflected into the net. Keith Holden got his fourth on 85, when a great cross by Trevor Horgan was headed home by Holden, despite the best efforts of the home sides keeper. Best for Macroom were Keith and Darrell Holden and Bryan Horgan.
Macroom: Dean Knight, John Breen, Tommy Pittam, Martin Corcoran, Darragh Deasy, John James Healy, Anthony O'Donoughue, Bryan Horgan, Darrell Holden, Keith Holden, Paul Healy. Subs: Trevor Horgan, David Golden, James O'Connor.
AUL 2A
Macroom 0 Rylane Celtic 0
by Denis Canty
Macroom dropped two valuable points at home against a dogged and determined Rylane side at the Town Park on Saturday.
The away side came to Macroom and set their stall out to defend, and they did it well. Macroom had the best of the early running in terms of possession, but had to deal with Rylane on the counter attack. Macroom had the first chance, when the lively Denis Cronin beat his man and whipped in a cross which was met by Patrick Burns, whose effort was saved comfortably. Full back Darragh Crowley was very unlucky on 15, when his late run and volley hit the side netting. Denis Cronin then had an effort on 22, after being set up by Barry Fitzgerald, but Cronin's effort was blazed over. Rylane had their defence to thank again, whose centre back put his body on the line to stop a fierce effort from Steven Crowley. Macroom had their best chance of the first half, when after a high boot met the head of Barry Fitzgerald inside the box, the ref gave an indirect free kick. Fitzgerald took it, and his effort needed an outstanding save from the Rylane keeper to keep the scoreline level at the break.
The second half continued on a similar vein, with Rylane disrupting Macroom's usual slick passing and possession game. The chances were very few and far between in the second half, with much of the play down the centre, which suited the away side. Macroom keeper Peter Burns continued to be a virtual spectator in the second half, but the away sides keeper could have easily joined him as a spectator. Macroom seemed to be able to go so far, but the Rylane defence were holding strong. The home side nearly nicked it at the death, but good defending blocked an effort from John Corkery. Best for Macroom were Darragh Crowley, Barry Fitzgerald and Brendan O'Mahony.
Macroom B: Peter Burns, Darragh Crowley, John Ronan, Mark O'Callaghan, David Murnane, Denis Cronin, Steven Crowley, Brendan O'Mahony, Daniel Downey, Barry Fitzgerald, Patrick Burns. Subs: John Corkery, Gary Elston, Andrew Hegarty, Conchur Murray, Denis Canty, Alan O'Connor, Chris Cronin.
pearse1 greenwood 3...Greenwood fully deserved the win were way more up for it,their a very physical team and can play good football too..but we were very poor especially after they scored the first goal we never looked like getting back into it..I cant see many teams taking points from greenwood this season their really strong and definitley think theyl be there abouts for the league....It hurts saying it but its true ha
well fruice i was one of tho wingers ha ha,,ye did yer job in all fairness ... well i must say its a long travel down to that pitch of yer most teams will find it hard down there but then again when ye have to make the travel to the city ye will find it hard to lol as for (tiny) yes tiny we had him last season to but was not at any of the games between us last season looking forward till we meet again up at o neil park good luck for the rest of the season fruice....
I see Mr. Holden is walking the walk after talking the talk :D
Impressive stuff!!!
Must be in the Oscar Traynor panel for my money
