How many away fans at dundalk ?
Glentoran FC Belfast 1-0 KR Reykjavik
what was the score from the first leg in that one??
Glens lost 3-0.
4-0 against port Talbot FT
gowannn Glentor... :P
Malta leapfrogged Norn Iron in the rankings. so Norn Iron has dropped even further in the ranking system but tonight is looking good for them so far.
Glentoran FC Belfast 1-1 KR Reykjavik HT
No chance for Glens now.
did portadown win and get thru after? it was 1-0 at HT right or did i dream it?
ports are through. Bosnia will leapfrog the League of Ireland in the ranking after tonight if things stay the way they are.
Glens losing 2 - 1
2 - 1 in Dundalk now
Full Time 2-1 Dundalk
Well done dundalk :)
Go on the Lilywhites. Watched the Sliema-Sibenik game, 3-0 to the visitors in a poor match (3rd goal was a 50 yard scorcher though) and the standard of Croatian football really is dropping like a stone. Attendances are plummetting year on year and for a club like Sibenik to be in Europe is saying something. Hopefully Irish clubs can push on!
Well done to Dundalk. They got the job done nice and early in the 2nd leg. They have achieved their minimum objective now I'd imagine. Levski Sofia will obviously be a big step up. Are Dundalk home or away for the first leg?
Great result for Portadown. Gives the Irish League a bit of a lift.
Did anyone catch any of the Bnei Yehuda game?
Congrats Dundalk, you've done the league proud
Delighted !
Bring on the Levski
Well done to Dundalk,
A big tie with Levski Sofia to look forward to now .
We should of had 6 maybe 7 easily tonight. First half we hit the woodwork twice and created chance after chance. Second half was more of the same with them playing about with the ball at the back and us catching them out, Hit the woodwork again and missed 2/3 one on ones. They came into it more with 15 or so to when we Brought on 2 younger lads McDonnell and Breen.
Faz was disappointed after the game he said himself he could of had 5 tonight.
Levski next! a close game over there would set up the game in Oriel nicely hopefully we dont get hockied in Sofia and bring the game back to Oriel with something to play for.
Hard luck. Will they get the co-efficient points for the draw (in normal time), does anyone know? Cymro-Lithuanian games in Europe have always been close (two of five in recent years were won on away goals) so the result is somewhat expected. Wonder if Andy Legg got some game time, he was still playing for them last year as I recall.
Port Talbot-TPS was a little closer than the 4-0 scoreline suggested. Port Talbot had a couple of chances to score. Overall though, TPS were the better team.
LOI shirts spotted in oriel tonight:
Shamrock Rovers X5 in the shed of all places!!
Bohs and Derry later coming from the stand.Cheers folks and hope yee enjoyed it!!
We should have destroyed them tbh. There keeper was dodgy as fook. Faz should have had 4 or 5.
Goals will be on RTE2 news shortly.
& my 'odd one out' Iraklis shirt (Greek League) - I was sat behind the press in the main stand, just behind the extratime.ie people; reading all their laptops - one guy another row in front was already sorting out his Ryanair flights on his laptop by half time:ball:
Enjoyable game BTW - Dundalk really were far superior on the night
( To think we could have had the European spot last season if we had kept our 2 goal lead in the Showgorunds - till p***es me of thing bout that game )
Well done Dundalk and best of luck in the next round.
Well done to Dundalk. Great positive news for the league in general. Hopefully a bumper crowd for the next game.
Just saw the highlights now. The performance looked decent overall but the finishing was atrocious.
Levski Sofia shouldnt be unbeatable, a lot of those eastern european teams are living on past glory years. Yes there a step up but not unbeatable. I dont see why dundalk shouldnt look at progressing from this tie, it would be great if they did.
As it wasn't confirmed earlier, Rovers are off to Israel; Bnei won 1-0 on the night and 1-0 on aggregate. Not the most worrying of results.
Well done Dundalk. Sounds like it should have been a more convincing win overall, but progression's progression. Next to no chance of the LoI catching anyone this year, but we drop below Bosnia in the rankings, and Finland have caught up a lot; could be looking at the CL team not being seeded next year if both those pass us out. But that's a worry for next year.
Portadown off to play Garabag Agdam of Azerbaijan in the next round. Away leg first, next week. Now there's a proper European tie! They also kept the North from being in pre-qualifying for the CL next year; getting very close to having San Marino, Malta, Luxembourg and the North as the four sides in that first round. Though at least they'd win a game surely?
Good result for Dundalk and good result for Portadown.
I'm glad that saved the embarrassment from playing in the 1st round with Andorra etc.
How beatable is this azarbajan(sp?) team?
Wikipedia says they beat Rosenborg and Honka last year before putting up a good fight against Twente, so yeah, Portadown are probably going out. Andrejs Rubins is a former Crystal Palace player who played for Latvia in Euro 2004. They play in Agdam, a good bit inland from the capital Baku, so even getting there will be more of a nightmare than usual.
Edit - in fact, this gets better - here's the wiki on Agdam, the town they're "based" in.
They played in Baku up till last year, when they got permission to move to Quzanli, a town near Agdam, in Nagorno-Karabakh. The ground is 2000 capacity though, so the game may be moved to Baku.Quote:
In July 1993, after heavy fighting, Agdam was captured by the forces of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic during its 1993 summer offensives. As the town fell its entire population fled eastwards...Agdam is currently a ruinous, uninhabited ghost town...The city has one professional football team competing in the top-flight of Azerbaijani football - FK Qarabağ
Rosenborg are easy :D
