I'll not opine whether it's best or worst cover version ever but this is me doing a cover of Atlantis by Donovan
Best cover I heard in 2010... still makes the hairs stand up on the back of the neck. Fupping love it...

Don't know if it's come up yet.
Great version of a great song, actually improves on the original.

The album version of this far surpasses the original.
Isa and the filthy tongues - model
Terence Trent Darby 'You've got to hide your love away' by 'The Beatles'
Agree for the most part but I do like this....
Noel Gallagher - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (Live)
Lots of Hayseed Dixie contenders for best cover version, imo. But maybe I'm just getting old.
Enjoyed browsing through this thread.... Some very good picks, and they've inspired a comeback for this mixed bag of covers on my mp3 player -
The Clash – Wrong ‘Em Boyo (Version of Stagger Lee) (Trad)
The Clash – Brand New Cadillac (Vince Taylor, according to Wikipedia)
Scala – Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)
Susanna and the Magical Orchestra – Jolene (Dolly Parton)
Camille O’Sullivan – Pirate Jenny (Kurt Weil/Bertolt Brecht)
The Dresden Dolls – Pretty in Pink (The Psychedelic Furs)
The Divine Comedy – I’ve Been to a Marvellous Party (Noël Coward)
Scott Walker – Mathilde (Jacques Brel)
Scott Walker – Jackie (Jacques Brel)
Christy Moore - Black is the Colour (Trad)
Jackson 5 Cover of Smokie Robinsons - Who's Lovin You. Quality if you ask me.

Walk Off The Earth - Magic (B.O.B ft Rivers Cuomo)

Some good ones that I have heard recently (though there are some good ones I can't remember that I haven't heard in awhile):
Old Crow Medicine Show - Wagon Wheel (Bob Dylan) (I believe was someone here's signature, thats how I think I found it)
Toots and the Maytals - Country Roads (John Denver?)
U2 - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) (Darlene Love?)
Blues Brothers - Nearly every song they did
The Mouldy Joes - Those Were the Days (Mary Hopkin?...its Huddersfield Town's song and their version was for HTFC, but I think its decent)
Some good ones that aren't really covers but sort of interpretations of traditional songs:
Real McKenzies - Loch Lomond (traditional)
Dublners/Pogues (some versions together and some separate on all of them) - Whiskey in the Jar/Irish Rover/Wild Rover
Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in the Jar
Some bad ones:
Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar (Thin Lizzy...maybe not as bad as others but an impossible standard to live up to)
Any cover of a Beatles song
Save Ferris - Come on Eileen (Dexy's Midnight Runners...already mentioned)
Funny thing - though Elvis Costello wrote "Girls' Talk", he didn't record/release it until after Dave Edmunds - Edmunds: June 1979 / Costello: January 1980 :)
Elbow doing u2 running to standstill. Beautiful.
