having watched that goal now, I noticed during the replay that O'Shea was screaming for a handball against the Dutch defender on the line. And on the replay behind the goal it was a definite penalty. I wonder if the referee would have given the penalty had Long not bundled it home.

Well I don't know if the referee saw it and just let it go but his hand DID stop O'Sheas header from hitting the onion bag; however, the ball ricocheted from the defenders hand to Longs foot and we got the goal.Quote:

Yes, the red card in such a scenario would have been for denying a goal scoring opportunity. But it didn't so no card. Also from June 1st, such an offense will now be a yellow if the referee deems it a legitimate attempt to play the ball.Quote:
