I'd say he'd play well, off of Davies...

Birmingham interested in Adam Rooney.

News: Just heard from Sky Bet that they've closed the market on Shay Given moving to Aston Villa. We'll bring you more updates as we get them as this story develops. You can follow me on Twitter - @skysportswebed - for more transfer news.
Daily Mail says Given to Villa is a done deal...
...if Villa stump up for his full 85k wages. Pass me the salt. Can see the move happening but it'll be nothing short of hilarious if Villa start paying out that amount with their wage bill already at 80% of turnover.
I doubt they'll be paying him 85k but surely losing the likes of Friedel, Young and particularly Downing will take a big chunk off their wage bill?
Undoubtedly helpful but since the club needs at least four-five more players (at least), plus a goalie, it would be madness to pay that amount in wages.
Stephen Gleeson denied move to Peterborough by MK Dons: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...010191,00.html

However, Peterborough's bid to also take Gleeson to London Road has been met with a further rebuttal after a first bid two weeks ago was knocked back.
League One side MK Dons have confirmed the latest situation regarding the two players and say they have 'reluctantly' accepted the offer for Baldock.
A club statement read: "Milton Keynes Dons can confirm we have received bids with improved terms from Peterborough United for both Stephen Gleeson and Sam Baldock.
"Whilst we have rejected any proposal for Stephen, a club record bid for Sam, which now matches our valuation, has been reluctantly accepted and Peterborough have accordingly been given permission to speak to Sam regarding a potential transfer to London Road."
The Vancouver Whitecaps have decided not to sign Cian Hughton after having him on trial for a couple of weeks.
Doesn't look good for Hughton -- the Whitecaps are bottom of the MLS table currently.
Has it ever happened where a team would say look, we want you here and you will play, but we have to rework your contract for less money.... or is it like baseball where it is set in stone and the player would never ever rip it up and start over when they make too much to go somewhere else?
Not sure if it's the same thing, but Kilbane renegotiated his contract with Hull. There was a year left, he negotiated two years at half the pay.
So, the same money in twice the time.
It's not like the guaranteed contracts in baseball. When a player moves clubs, it isn't just that the new club takes over his contract, instead he negotiates a new one (incl length, bonuses, wage) with the new club. So you would quite often find players willing to take a pay cut in Given's situation to get out of a bad situation. But that would usually be a player forgoing a couple of grand. In Given's case he'd probably be looking at a 30,000 odd decrease. He could volunteer to give that up, or opt to stay at City and keep picking it up. Often what happens is City and Given will reach an agreement to pay, say 15,000, per week to him, so Given doesn't have a huge drop off in salary, but City still get most of his high wage off the books, plus a transfer fee.
Looking more and more like Leicester for out Seanie : http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.u...ail/story.html - the club are expected to announce some signings today and he may be amongst them. Thankfully the message boards seem to have come round to the idea of him siginig a bit, some of the initial reaction was a bit daft.
I think something like this went on with Robbie Keane after he left Leeds. Anyway, I think it may be different here as Man City arent a bankrupt Leeds and seem fairly happy to keep a world class keeper in Given, in reserve. They dont seem happy enough for him to stay. I hope he goes, and to a good club.
Aston Villa forum saying Given has agreed to a 20 grand a week pay cut (85 to 65 grand)but that deal is still some way off with WBA ready to match or better any offer from Villa.
WBA better for us - more practice!
