Any truth in that its going to be called Shamstanta from now on!
Jesus that's a poor effort
TV coverage may cost you money on the day, but in the longer term should open up a lot more opportunities for commercial revenue, or at least help keep current sponsors aboard.
Thats thr crux of the issue. I've no doubt that TV coverage of the leagee helps overall, but with so fight pretty much everywhere, a drop of 200 in the gate is a huge drop, and felt almost immediately
Most other leagues main income is from TV revenue, while we actually lose money on TV games...
Do the FAI force clubs to move kick off times for TV?
yes they do I was amazed when I checked after the Rovers game at the start of the season. We would have lost at least €5,000 on Gate Receipts alone. An absolute joke that LOI clubs are in fact paying for TV Coverage and sponsorship these days is non existent even for live games.
Surely television appearances are written into pitchside advertising and shirt sponsorship deals?
Then again, probably not given how inept the business practices in this league tend to be.
Hard to put into any contracts when the amount of games won't be known
Last year we were on TV 11 times, this year we’ve been on twice (1 on RTE, 1 on Setanta - with one on each channel scheduled for coming weeks)
How are Pats supposed to go to companies and say “ we can guarantee you live coverage x times a year” when they haven’t a clue themselves. Even ‘pay per TV game’ type situations wouldn’t be suitable
For the record here’s Pats live games over the last few years;
15 in 2007 (2 on RTE, 9 on Setanta, 4 on TG4)
15 in 2008 (3 on RTE, 12 on Setanta)
6 in 2009 (1 on RTE, 3 on Setanta, 2 on TG4)
11 in 2010 (7 on RTE, 4 on Setanta)
Don't know if this is more suited to this thread or the barstool faceplam one but..
Some Sligo Rovers supporters against Derry
Being in the Premier Division does help. If there's no market for First Division in the stands, there's not going to be one for tv either.Quote:
