Just heard his Mum on the news. What a woman .
She was saying she doesn't blame the person he got in a fight with , that he was unlucky and that she doesn't see it as murder.
That is unbelieveable strength at this time.

Just heard her on the news. She is empathising with Gearoids killer.
She says that as a mother she feels for the young man, that she doesn't want him to serve time.
I echo her sentiments, two lives shouldn't be ruined because of this tragic accident.
What struck me though, was the calm reasoned approach she is adopting at a very traumatic time is exactly the attitude we've all seen hundreds of times from Eirebhoy and its easy to see where he got it from. Fair play to her.
He was a driving force behind getting this chant going. Maybe we could call it the Eirebhoy song. Or the "singing section" could be called after him. He deserves some sort of tribute at the France game.
R.I.P. Eirebhoy.
Shocked .. can't put it better than what has already been set so eloquently by so many. Deepest sympathies to his family.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam
Its a tiny consolation but given the location, Im sure her pain is eased by the fact that his brother was with him when it happened and he also had his sister by his bedside also.
Been reading your posts for years Eirebhoy. As punter and poster I had a great time for you.
Very sad news.
R.I.P.
I was so humbled when I heard that fantastic woman, Treasa Walsh talking on the news this morning. What a wonderful human being she is, to be so forgiving after this tragic event.
I just saw his mother on the news. Very composed at what must be an awful time for her and the family. Eirebhoy you will be missed. RIP.
The irish soccer world is a lot less well off this morning.
Is tehre anyone with contacts in the FAI who can start getting something moving as this will take organisation? I agree the we love you we love you chant would be brilliant for a minute before the game. it would catch on too through the minute with lyrics on the big screen. It would be a great and fitting tribute.
RIP Eirebhoy. Sad sad news, how things like this add perspective, his heartbroken sister was on the radio this morning.
I have no doubt he will be sitting in the great Irish stand in the sky cheering the lads on.
Been reading foot.ie for years and always looked forward to Eirebhoy's contributions.
I was always impressed by his reasoned posts and am equally impressed by his mothers understanding statement. Eirebhoy was a credit to her. My thoughts are with her and the rest of the family.
Rest in peace.
I haven't been posting on here regularly until more recently. EireBhoy came across as one of the real gooduns though, as he so obviously was by all the great tributes already posted.
RIP
Shocked! Just reading about this on the BBC website, didn't realise he was a poster here. RIP
RIP Gearoid.
This is just awful horrible news.
RIP Fella, your gonna be missed
RIP eirebhoy,I still can't believe it really. A fantastic poster who seemed to never get flustered but always radiated enthusiasm and inevitably had me seeing the other point of view whenever there was somehting I disagreed with him on. He will be sorely missed on this site
Sounded inevitable from the initial news reports really, but that doesn't make it any less of a shock.
RIP.
RIP eirebhoy.
RIP Gearoid
Terrible waste of such a positive person's life. Shocking that someone that always appeared so level headed, easy going and polite would have his life ended as a result of an argument. Shocking. I didn't know Eirebhoy personally but had numerous pms over the years and comments on my posts from him that made me feel like I knew him. He was the heart and soul of the Ireland forum and in some way though it may sound a bit smushy to say so I feel as though a large part of that forum has died with him.
Not sure what I feel about the lad who killed him. We've possibly all been in disagreements when drunk for one reason or other but it only takes one punch to end someone's life. His life is ruined to an extent now also anyway no matter what happens next.
I just listened to his mother on the news heartbreaking stuff.
Adam can we get some paypal account setup so we could donate money to get a flag with a message on it? Does anyone have any contacts to produce the flag? The bigger the better.
RIP Eirebhoy
A true saint and scholar
