Thats the plan.

It's nothing like Cork, the Casey family own oriel park land, but the club built all of the structures. The MFA built all 4 stands in TC, that's the difference. The again we pay a nominal rent compared to the significant amount that Cork have to pay. This is fair enough as they have full use to the best stadium in the league.
The long lease of Oriel Park has a 'must be used for football' clause in it and there is nothing stopping DFC building anything on it, just the tricky thing of having to fund it, but I believe there are plans to make improvements in the not to distant future. Nothing specific has been mentioned, but it's clear there is a very long list of things to look at. It will all come down to funding and priorities.
The MFA built all four stands in Turners Cross on the back of Cork City. As I'm sure most people realise Turners Cross would be what it is without the rent we have paid towards it over the years. Nor would they have access to the grant money they have drawn down were we not the anchor tenants.
Its a great situation to be in to be fair, even if the large rent means we are slightly less competitive year to year than we might otherwise be.
What sort of figure we are talking about for Cork renting Turners Cross, and how does it compare with what Shamrock R pay up in Tallaght?
Yes, the Finn is between the old and new grounds.
Hard to say- there have already been so many delays down the years. The ground development committee have not given an exact completion date because we're at the mercy of grants, drawdowns etc but we'd certainly hope to see it done within two years.
Given the time taken to get this project up and running I think we should immediately start work on Finn Park 3 on the old site :)
Actually the site will then be handed to the developer to do with as they please. Finn Park is zoned for development so is relatively valuable compared to the new ground which will be on land zoned recreational.
I listened to the radio interview John Delaney gave on RTE Radio recently and he mentioned that there was discussions with Dublin City Council and St Pat's over developments at Richmond Park? Whats the story there?
Supposedly about extending the Camac terrace into a full stand, which I believe would require the permission of the landowners behind it, which I don't think is the council but might be. There is always the possibility it's complete bull**** that only ever happened in Delaney's head.
Isn't there a river close behind that terrace? It would be quite tight for space along that side I would imagine.
Yeah, the Camac is just a stream really. You could build a foundation around it without disrupting the flow of the river. I seem to recall one of Kelleher's many hair-brained schemes was to buy the east stand from the old Lansdowne Road and rebuild it on top of the Camac end.
Just had a gander and there's just over an acre of land in a solid freehold block between the back gardens of those houses (between 97 and 153) on Inchicore Road and the centre line of the Camac. It runs the entire length from the western edge of the Richmond Park leasehold to just past the shed on the eastern side.
So channelling the Camac and expansion is entirely possible. But where's the cashmoney to do it.
Just got a chance to look at the tender for the Markets Field.
Key points:
Capacity: 2215
Main Stand: 1315
Temporary Away Stand: 300
Away standing area: 150
Popular side standing: 300
Behind goals standing at home end: 150
Standing areas are "Tar and Chip" finished. (ie no steps)
No toilet facilities for home fans outside the main stand.
One entrance for Home fans.
One entrance for away fans.
No sign of any turnstiles.
:bulgy:
These LEDP boys do not deliver bang for the buck.
That away section is too small if there's any meaningful derby game there next season, or a big cup game.
looking forward to seeing the markets field, seems that LEDP are missing a trick not putting in stepped concrete terraces, still the main stand if done right could look great, it looks crusty now but paint, new seats, lights and new glass on the sides would transform it. whats the square box beside the main stand?
Point taken but it's probably concern number 17 on my list of problems with that ground
adamd164, right on. away spaces is poor planning, 400 spaces wouldn't cost much more to build and would be great for derby games, playoffs, cup games etc. Space for 150 will look like a bus shelter.
A bar would be great for Limerick... When it scheduled to be opened?
Its a new build that's the third worst ground in the premier.
And only fits 1700 home fans.
And only has one entrance.
And no toilets.
It's not really angst but let's call a spade a spade like.
The only saving grace is al that open tarmac space can be used for temporary stands I guess.
But when the saving grace of your new ground is an option to copy wexford youths it leaves you a bit meh.
1300 Limerick fans crammed in to the main stand sounds great to me. After 25 years of not having a pot to **** in and not a semblance of a permanent home i won't be losing much sleep over not having a toilet outside the main stand or a 5000 seater stand for away support!
1,300 fans in one stand certainly isn't an issue and if anything would be great. It just seems the whole thing is being done in half measures. Short term it will be great but long term you can already see issues.
None of the fans wanted a state of the art facility but the basics even seem to be being skimped on.
All the talk of another great sporting facility in the city now is rubbish talk. Throw basic stands in a few junior grounds in the city and they would already be ahead of the Markets Field.
At this stage only time will show it. The fans on numerous occasions have voiced their concerns and been told pretty much that it is out of the fans and the clubs hands so put up or shut up.
I can see your point and agree with you to a certain extent but reality has to come in to this.at the moment we are a club who have enjoyed little or no success in the last twenty years, have a small fan base and are only surviving due to the financial assistance from pos.Our backs are to the wall and only for the LEDP we would be up s*it creek big time.
Guaranteed it will be people like this with the attitude oh its all fine beggers cant be choosers and all this crap will be the first on here and other places whinging about how awful it is when its done. I'd even disagree with Jofspring when he said it will be great short term.
I almost wish I hadn't asked. Seriously though, is this a one time deal with LEDP or will they own MF? will you be able to develop the place over time or will that be in LEDPs hands? looking at the plans, there seems to be room for expansion if required or am I wrong?
It will be the LEDP's from now on to rent to whoever. We will just be one of the tenants and have been told we have use of it for 22 games a season. If for example we were to do well some season in the future and we're expecting a big attendance. Say 2,500 home fans and a travelling support of 500-600 we would have to move to Thomond Park. The same if we ever managed to make Europe.
Any pictures of the ground and its stands?
How many times has this happened in the last 30years tell me....
