I am looking forward to the new season for one simple reason, it cant be any worse standard wise than last year. Hopefully Celtic will be able to inject some much needed life into the superleague( a title which is generous at best). The lower divisions are a mess, still reeling from last years reshuffle and a shortage of players. We can only hope that the Mayo league finally see the light and try to rectify a below par league.

Id say most clubs are back in preseason at this stage, how's pre season goin for ye? any players moving around for this season ahead? with manulla getting a new manager,ballina looking for a new manager and celtic coming back into the league, there'll be alot of clubs out to prove a point, which can only be a good thing.

I read on the Connaught Telegraph that the kick off dates may end up a topic of conversation at the MAFL AGM. The debate seems to be focused on Westport United's exit from the FAI Junior Cup and Brendan Kenny's resignation. There is a suggestion about the league kicking off in July.

Yes what a complete load of Cod and I am sick listening to this conspiracy that people want summer soccer reviewed. NO THEY DO NOT. Let me make a number of points and I am justified in doing so as I am playing winter football myself at present and am reminded "what it used to be like"
Every time a Mayo club goes out of a regional or national competition it is the thoughts of a small minded few that it is the result of "fatigue" or "lack of Fitness" compared to other counties. Let me remind people that there was nearly a 2 month suspension of games due to adverse weather. Now here you have 2 points. Firstly this is a nice little rest for the Mayo clubs but it also means other counties are not in full football mode like some media outlets would have us believe. Mayo clubs are going out of the competitions because they are not the better sides and because some just dont have the hunger anymore simple as no excuses. Ballinasloe are top of the Roscommon league and why would they or should they not be good enough to beat an aging westport side. Also we seem to forget that we are in an amature set up here with some of the ludicrous statement that are presented regarding " tiredness and fatigue". Players play once a week (0n average) and train 1-2 times a week for max 3 hours. Thats 5 hours of football per week over 6 months. Absolute nonsense that a person can become physically drained after this minimal exertion. Its is not full time football so how can people make this downright ridiculous remark.
The ironic element to all this is When Westport and Erris Youths both had Success in outside competitions everybody including the league gave themselves a massive clap on the back for summer soccer's fruition. Yet here we go again with a few wallies informing us of their proposed season changes because they were hockied by a GAA team in their off season and they think they have a right to sail through the external cup just because they are from Mayo. Football in Mayo itself is in major setback and until this is looked at in dept making silly proposals and frankly inebriated statements will only serve to ignore the elephant in the room!

I have to agree with the above post as it is correct in all its content.
When westport won in 2005 there was no problem with the set up then.
6 years later and older plus minus a few quality players they are finding it hard to drive on in the FAI cup,hopefully the connaught cup will keep them ticking over and a good run is on for them.

Not on the Superleague team myself so no. Just wanting to get back playing proper football as last season was a bit iffy for me personally. Manulla have a good new manager now too so good luck to them

You forgot about Castlebar Celtic's FAI Youth's Cup win in your reply. Also there was success at provincial level at junior and underage. If we are discussing fatigue in this issue, I think that the point is more in relation to mental fatigue rather than physical, which would afflict the more successful sides. After the conclusion of the domestic season, the external season does not guarantee week in-week out football. During the FAI Junior Cup/Connacht Cup run of 2004/2005 from 24/10/04 to 19/6/05, the following dates saw United in action. 24/10/04 (FAI), 7/11/04 (FAI), 28/11/04 (FAI), 5/12/04 (Conn), 2/1/05 (FAI), 16/1/05 (FAI), 13/2/05 (FAI), 27/2/05 (Conn), 6/3/05 (FAI), 20/3/05 (Conn), 27/3/05 (FAI), 10/4/05 (Conn), 24/4/05 (FAI Sen), 29/5/05 (FAI) and 19/6/05 (FAI). That was 14 external games in eight months, but you can see how staggered the fixtures are. Bear in mind that the 2005 MAFL season commenced on the 3rd of April that year.

Had the pleasure of working with Paul for a while, good coach and manager and Manulla should be very happy with their appointment. Fair play and best of luck to Paul, sorry to see him leave!!

I here that Newport town has been given permission to play in the Mayo League,will play there games in Milebush.
But this has a fall out with Glenhest Rovers no longer able to continue at there expense.
Should there be consideration for a club like Glenhest,who has served this league over the years.

more money for mayo league registration fee same as glenhest, but will get extra income from use of milebush, glenhest have their own pitch
once again mayo show only interested in money,due to present clmate most league around country are having a reduction in registration fees

I hear Ballyheane may be in trouble (Again ). Apparently Gerry Burke was not properly transfered and should not have played against Celtic.
