I can't wait for McGeady to score for Ireland. I think once he starts he's gonna keep scoring
He was very quiet in yesterdays opener in the SPL against St Mirren. A few nice touches and a few decent crosses but that was about it. A couple of poor shots, where he cuts inside on to his right and more often than not skies it high over the bar (needs to work alot on his shooting, goalscoring). For some reason he was coming inside quite a lot and not spending that much time out on the wing. Just too quiet over 90 minutes. Having said that most of the Celtic team were sluggish yesterday......
The most encouraging thing I thought was his link up for 3 seperate runs. By link up I mean 1-2's. It's exactly the runs Messi makes a million times a game and it's so effective at getting away from the opposition and creating space. It was just the fact that he did it 3 times in the game, it was obvious he's been working on it with his teammates.
I'd agree with that - though it was largely ineffective on the day. Its been spoken of before that he would develop in to a 'in the hole' type player. He certainly drifted inside much more often than he has done ever for Celtic, unfortunately he needed a 'left wing' McGeady to link up with!!
Aiden McGeady certainly is a talented footballer but will never have outstanding pace(you either have it or you dont). To compensate for this I think he has to work on his physique. If he becomes stronger it would be easier for him to protect the ball and himself. His former teamate Maloney has not been effective in the premiership because his body is not able to cope with physique of his opponents. Its unfortunate that he is so small and does not have the speed to get away from them.Unless McGeady works on his physique I think that he also may struggle at a higher level.
Maloney has signed back for Celtic. Maloney's best position is definitely the left. It'll be interesting to see how/if Strachan fits McGeady and Maloney in the team.
I don't know why O'Neil signed Maloney tbh. He never gave him a run of games at Celtic and it was the same at Villa. 7 goals was a good return given the cirmumstances. I think he started about 5 games on left midfield. Although I don't think even he predicted A.Young doing so well.
Excellent player. Can't wait to see what Celtic line up like when he breaks into the team.
did he not sign him for nothing at the time? probably a case of a manager bringing in a player he knows already.
I don't know about O'Neill being surprised at Ashley Young doing so well as he paid about 10 million pound for him so I'm sure he expected an impact!!!
what the hell does shaun maloney signing for celtic got to do with Ireland?
Scottish players going from an English to a scottish club.
Maloney and McGeady linked up well yesterday.
Maloney: "I knew how good Aiden was when I left but he has improved a hell of a lot. He has pretty much everything now, the final delivery, the shot or pass, he has that end product to his game now. And he scares the life out of defenders when he starts running at them. If the players make runs ahead of him then he will find them. The pace of the team as we are breaking is different from when I was last here, especially with some of the attacking players we have."
Had a very quiet game yesterday. Put the cross in for Celtics first goal but had very little influence on the game in which Celtic were well below par. What made this all the more disappointing is Broadfoot the Rangers rightback is a poor excuse for a footballer and McGeady would have enough talent in his little finger to beat him time and time again but failed to deliver.
He is now a more seasoned campaigner than most in the side and yesterday we really needed him to stand up and be counted but he simply didnt show up added to this his body language didnt look good and his workrate was not as it has been over the course of last season. He needs to buck his ideas up ahead of the WCQ games.
Im a big fan of McGeady but so far this season he has been off form IMO.
Hopefully, yesterdays result will give him personally a kick up the backside.
I am convinced I have figured out McGeadys game. And I watched it back earlier carefully on TiVo. McGeady has an interesting strategy, he runs really fast with the ball, then falls down and looks at the ref. If he recives a pass in traffic, he will fall down and look at the ref. If he is chasing after a ball he wont get to first, he will fall run fast and fall down. Then look around. He must have permanent grass stains on his elbows. I started counting all the times he fell down to put an official number on here, but did not want to appear crazy as this is my first thread post.
Someone please explain this to me. The announcer described him as dominant today. Maybe I was watching a different game. He falls down more than Gerald Ford on ice skates.
Im thrilled with the victory and I will be the first to admit I don't see much of the SPL. But if THAT is the best player in the SPL, then that league is either people running and falling down for 90 minutes, or a terrible league.
Am I wrong?
