Friend of a friend had to have his hip replaced recently after an injury sustained playing touch rugby, think he's about 33-34. He's been told he can't even go jogging any more. Replacements have a 20-30 year lifespan depending on wear and tear, so he'll have to have his replacement replaced probably before he retires.Quote:

Being banned from driving has probably improved his fitness.
Both Keane and O'Neill (and indeed Gordon Strachan) were at the game and the camera went on them when Gibson was coming on and they looked genuinely interested. Gibson did well for the time he was on and, depending on fitness, could possibly take on Whelan's mantle in his absence due to suspension.
p.s. Didn't like McCarthy's dive looking for a peno and he looked genuinely sheepish when he was booked.
Gibson has got many chances with us and constantly failed to deliver each time. we would get a far more honest performance from meyler or quinnQuote:

27 years of age with 25 caps and nothing really to write home about. For a player so highly rated at Manchester United I think it's fair to say he hasn't delivered much. That said, his best football has been at Everton and he hasn't had many opportunities with us since, due to a self imposed exile and a spade of injuries. He'd still be my preferred choice to replace Whelan though, he's got more ability than the likes of Meyler and Quinn and undoubtedly a better positional sense which could be crucial against Germany. I've been a critic over the years but I'd still hold out a lot of hope for him making a decent impact for us if he can stay clear of injuries. I don't think it's really fair to imply he wouldn't give an 'honest' performance, I'm sure he's done his best over the years even when I was complaining about him, although I really didn't approve of the exile.

there is no benefit in charging around the pitch clobbering opposition players but the minimum I expect to see is a player being up for it and putting serious pressure on their opposite number especially in centre mid. Some players are expressly instructed by their managers not to do this. There was a reason why Whelan and Andrews rarely, if ever, got stuck into tackles in the middle of the field under Trap; doing so would have drawn them out of the position they were instructed to occupy. They were to act as a wall rather than press. Just because Gibson mightn't be getting stuck into tackles, doesn't mean he's not up for a game.
