If his attitude wasn't so questionable, he'd deserve a place in the squad as cover. Combined with his defensive failings, I don't think he's missed. Our free-kicks against Israel were absolutely appaling and that has to be worked on but I don't think Ian Harte is the solution to this team's problems.
Apart from direct free kicks on goal, you'd expect Duff and then Kav & Reid to deliver quality corners and wide frees.
How many goals has Duff set up for Terry & co this season? I was only at one Chelsea game this season, against CSKA Moscow, & I think both Chelsea's goals were headed in from Duff set-pieces. Certainly the second one was. So we shouldn't have to rely on Harte for his set-piece skills.
The delivery against Israel was crap, but then again when you've no natural offensive headers of the ball you can whip in all the best frees in the world and you'll get a poor return.
But we scored from frees/corners against Bulgaria, Portugal & Cyprus recently. Any others?
Thanks, not the comprehensive endorsement of my theory that I'm looking for though! Maybe he just lost possession of his place & moaned too much. I still think there must be more to it though so we can debate the merits of his inclusion until the cows come home, he ain't gonna get picked.Quote:

according to gerry mcdermott in todays irish independent harte plays for levante in the Spanish Serie A. :rolleyes:
Funnily enough hasn't he just been dropped by Levante? Strange timing that, I thought he'd been dropped for the past few games after poor performances.

I think 3 go down, two of which are already confirmed, so the last one is between Mallorca and Levante. Mallorca currently occupy the last relegation place and are 1 point behind Levante. Goal difference doesnt count in Spain (head to head record does, and Levante have the better one), so they are in the slightly stronger position, but I dont know what each team's run in is like.

Has anyone actually been following his progress in Spain? Is there any chance he has broadened his game there? I had always hoped he would move to Serie A (or rather somehow some scout would con a club into buying him) and he may improve his defensive game in the most defensive of leagues. On the other hand I think the defence in La Liga is not even as good as the Premiership let alone Serie A so I am not sure this move would be any particular benefit to his game. Has he fallen out of the team on form?
Hartey is snailman,no pace at all,too slow for international football,reached his peak about 5 years ago,the only thing going for him is he's good at deadball situations,except for penalties :eek:
glad hartey is back on squad. although i would prefer 2 see him on bench cos i dont think his confidence can be very high especially as he may be overly keen to prove himself to kerr. lets hope he doesnt read this forum or his confidence will be at all time low!!!!!

the real problems are upfront as usual. Hope clint makes a move in summer. think that sunderland wud be a good move for him as he would play regularly there and has potential to score regularly.
No, he was injured for the Barca afaik. Put it this way, he has started every game he was available for. He went off after an hour in the previous match and didn't even make the bench for the Barca game (they have 7 subs in Spain afaik). That to me suggests he's injured. :)Quote:

With the Spanish season not yet finished and Liverpool taking part in the Champions League final against AC Milan in Istanbul next Wednesday, Harte and Steve Finnan will be allowed to join up late with the Irish squad.
The remainder of the party, however, will assemble in Dublin on Tuesday and Wednesday next, to prepare for the Jackie McNamara testimonial against a Celtic XI at Parkhead on Saturday May 29th.

Doesnt look good for his club side (Levante) now tho... they drew 0-0 with Valencia but are a point adrift from Mallorca (who won at Deportivo 3-0). Levante face Villareal away (probably the hardest away fixture in la Liga, as Villareal have a great home record) and will almost certainly have to win.
I am no admirer of Harte but seeing that the likes of Doc, Quinn and Miller are there i think he should be in. I have more faith in him getting us the winner with a few minutes left in the game than any of these guys especially from a set piece.Give him a run against Celtic I say and have him in the squad against Israel.
He is not joining the squad until Tuesday 31 May, so no Celtic game. He was named in the Israel/Faroes squad anyway!Quote:

Villarreal and Real Betis secured their places in the Champions League qualifying rounds for next season, but there was despair for Levante who were relegated from the Primera Liga on an eventful final day in the Spanish top flight.
Villarreal came from behind to beat Levante 4-1, and condemn their opponents to the drop.

i'd pretty much ignore anything that hannigan writes. however, i'd say if you looked at levante's form over the season, they have won much more points with harte in the team than without. their dip in form arrived after a good start, harte got injured around the same time, and so cannot really be blamed for all the goals they conceeded when he was injured, but maybe some of detractors would still blame him for that as well :eek:
Levante were relegated last night.
Harte hasn't been in the side or on sub's bench last couple of weeks as has been dropped despite being one of their highest earners.
I went to Levante v Valencia last week and Levante fans said he has been poor recently.
What's wrong with Hannigan? I don't read the Sunday Times much but I would have thought he has a decent reputation.Quote:

harte was not in the team when they were 'haemorrhaging goals' - as he was injured. up until his injury they were doing well, and defensively - whilst not water tight, they were as solid as any other mid table spainish team.
i'd say the last bit about his defensive shortcommings is opinion and not fact - has he watched levante's games all seasons, or is he just making a small sniping remark because of its conclusion. harte had around four very solid months before injury when he was quite strong defensively by all accounts (sky showed very little of levante in the early part of the season when they were doing well) - only the real game, where harte was outpaced for one goal (owen's i think).
now, since then he is out injured for a few months and comes back into the team with the worst form in the league. does hanningon mention this (because if he did, then he would be reporting facts!)?
