Agreed, I just meant in terms of he was (Raul) like a 'fixture & fitting' so to speak. Now if David Connolly was still pushing for a place it would be exactly the same.

It is written. :)
Scored the winner on 87mins in a 2-1 away win over Stevenage in the FA Cup.
Ivar Ingimarsson believes Reading would have to be offered a ‘hell of a lot of money’ to sell Shane Long.

Sounds like fighting talk from a man desperte for midnight tonight, still all good from our view point, even better if he goes to a Prem side who arent circling the plughole, an established team at that level. Would be great to see someone like Everton take a punt on him.
Talk of Celtic putting in a bid according to the today fm this morning. No no and no. He is too good and showing far too much potential to move up there. Would prefer that he continues his progress with Reading until the summer at least and then reassess his options.
Long possible move to West Ham BBC (even if Hammond is denying it)
https://twitter.com/bbcsport_david Our front two against Slovakia away playing up front for West ham.
The Long to West Ham rumour has been around before and it is a possibility. It certainly would not surprise me if middle to lower premier league clubs were showing an interest with Shane's recent form.
I can't see West Ham buying Long after just recently buying Demba Ba, loaning Robbie Keane, and still having Cole (at least for now), Obinna, Piquionne, and even Benni McCarthy (who, at the very least, still has to get paid and West Ham aren't exactly a model for good finances).
EDIT: They also just signed 18 year old striker Paul McCallum from non-league Dulwich Hamlet.
19.45 Sky Sports News has just shown footage of Avram Grant chatting outside the West Ham training ground - and the Hammers boss says the east Londoners could still add "maybe one" more player to the squad before the close of the transfer window. Carlton Cole, however, is staying put, he says, despite links to Newcastle
According to Twitter, Shane Long is at Upton Park, undergoing a medical at Newcastle United and a plane is currently on its way to Reading to fly him up to Glasgow to clinch the deal with Celtic. He's going to be wrecked by the end of the night...
Just hauled off after 18 minutes, must be an injury.
Reading turned down "strong Premier League interest" for Long in the transfer window: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/News...282012,00.html

9 mins - Longy has needed some treatment. It looks like his hip is causing him a problem. He's trying to run it off now. All eyes are on our star striker and how he is running.
17 mins - He's left it as long as possible but Brian MCDermott is forced to make a change. Long will come off and Noel Hunt enters the fray early.
And how did Noely do?
Am sure I heard on Sky Sports news last night that Hunt set up the winning goal.
90:00+1:02
Assist on the goal came from Noel Hunt
Yeah he did but it actually ended up a 2-2 draw (goals in 92nd and 97th minute). Anyway Noely has his own thread so apologies for taking off track......
he got the assist alright, but Cardiff went straight down the other end and equalised, finished 2-2:

Manset then grabbed his first Championship goal when Hunt crossed from the right for a tap in but there was still time for an equaliser.
13th league goal of the season tonight for Shane.
Celtic linked with move for Long in the summer: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...758959,00.html
Didn't realise he was out of contract in the summer. Nicely done on his part, He should have his pick of a number of premier league teams come the summer
Just got his 16th of the season, a half volley set up by Noel Hunt who got Reading's first. That's 12 in 15 apparently.
On an incredible run. Out of interest, what was Doylers best tally in the Championship?
EDIT:
Here is Doyles goal to games ratio for Reading
2008–09 42 18 Champ.
2007–08 36 6 PL
2006–07 32 13 PL
2005–06 45 18 Champ
Long on course to beat Doylers best tally for Reading. He has 14 goals from 32 league appearances.
I love Kevin Doyle and I appreciate how much he brings to the table, but the lad only has three goals in the league this season! Step yo game up.
If he played for Arsenal I reckon he'd have scored more than Bendtner and Chamakh combined, in my opinion, and would do more for the team.
He's a good player and a very selfless, hard working team player whose contribution amounts to a lot more than just goals. He'd score more at a better club. Maybe not a 20 a year scorer, but 12+ goals in 38 games would be very realistic at a club like, for example, Sunderland.
I'm not sure Doyle's move to Wolves has helped us. His hold up play hand headed knock ons been outstanding. He can take ball into feet or on chest and bring other players into the game and I have only seen one defender all season (Kompany) get the better of Doyle in one on one exchanges. But the positions he has to take up playing for Wolves are not good for someone who wants to score 10 to 15 goals a season. Definetely Wolves best player but I would prefer to him with a club who create more chances. It makes it that little bit harder to score for us as well.
Are there any/many better strikers than Shane in the championship ?
he hasnt had to i suppose, his work rate looks fairly good anytime ive seen him though. doyles workrate and overall contribution are unreal, just don't think he'll ever be a prolific scorer. he's not usually in good goal scoring positions, mostly due to being out doing the donkey work somewhere else, cant be in 2 positions at once. maybe thats down to playing for a bottom of the league team but id say its just how he plays the game.
Long got another one at the weekend, funny to see Paddy McCarthy trying to choke him too after he had 'won' the penalty. Ambrose and Hunt scored in that game also.
It would be great to see Long move up a level, even better if it were to an established Prem side, so it doesnt end up like Doyle to Wolves. Everton need goals and Moyes does go shopping in the Champoinship sometimes, would be nice if we had another guy at a club like that notching regularly this time next year.
Linked with a move to Liverpool:

Probably not that realistic, but good to see him mentioned as a premiership player. Would he make it there, who knows. Has definitely improved this year.
He definitely won't end up at Liverpool, that's for sure! Total nonsense reporting.
