They're only outside the playoffs now on goal difference from Brighton, and Reading have to overcome the awesome power of the doc('s team mates) on Monday.

New contract for Murphy.
2 in 2 games for Murphy. Supposedly his goal was brilliant. His partnership with McGoldrick is certainly developing.

Cracker by Murphy.
Chronic goalkeing though, no?
Good effort on goal alright.
It was a nice effort but you'd have to blame the goalkeeper for that going in. Even if it was in an awkward position for the goalkeeper and with a bit of pace, it was a poor effort. Still, credit to Murphy for the technique and you don't get the luck unless you steer it on target to begin with.
That was awful. If the keeper had set himself up right it would have just bounced into his chest and looked like a pretty tame effort.
I only caught the last 20 mins on TV last night. Ipswich had started retreating by that time but up until then had been the better team. Commentators said that they'd have been more than 2 up if McGoldrick and Murphy in particular hadn't been wasteful.
He looks in good shape though, fit and mobile.
That's a speculative effort. I'd say he was as surprised as any that the keeper didn't gather it
Murphy with a brace as Ipswich lead Forest 2-1. If Ipswich hold on, they end Forest's unbeaten record and go level on top.
His first goal was a "goal of the season" contender and a "cracker" according to the natives on their forum.
Definitely ahead of Cox & Sammon now...4th best striker now?
Probably only behind Long and Keane in fairness. Much on a par with Doyle, Walters, Stokes.....
Should probably try and fit in as many of those strikers against Gibraltar as possible.
Maybe Long & Doyle up front together - they worked well together against similar opposition in the past. Stokes playing off them to see if he can become an option for that role - where he does a decent job for Celtic. McGeady & McClean on the wings. Gibson with the other up field role. Theoretically there is at least 3 or 4 goals in that team with McGeady & McClean filling their Intl. goalscoring boots lately allied with Doyle's Intl. form, Long and hopefully Stokes.
Looks like Meyler could play RB against Germany so give Gibson the midfield start so he can start with one or two of Whelan and/or Hoolahan against Germany. No need to start Keane in this game.
Would like to see Hendrick given a chance to start in Germany but I doubt it will happen. Whelan, Gibson at the base and McGeady, Hendrick and McClean/Pilkington supporting Long sounds good.
Murphy has form with goals of the season:

Martin O'Neill says he seems to have found a bit of extra pace! Ok, self praise is no praise, I know. :)
Papers seem to be suggesting he's played himself into contention for a start, and I'd be quite happy with that - as long as he's not seen as some kind of hybrid left corner forward. He says himself his good form is down to playing centrally.
Credit too to TOWK who has been positive for a while on Murphy. I freely admit that not long ago he was one I wasn't bothered about. In the squad, fine. Not in the squad, no big deal either. Not any more. I'm glad O'Neill has been watching him and has been taking note of his form.

Another for Murphy, joint third scorer in the league now with 7.
9th and 10th goals of the season for Murph tonight.
Great stuff. I'm surprised he looked so flat against Gibraltar.
Wouldn't take much notice of that really. It's easy to say a guy should be chomping at the bit and all that, but the game had lost the small bit of intensity it had, so it was difficult. Even Hendrick looked far better against Germany than he did against Gibraltar. It would be interesting to see Murphy in more demanding circumstances.
O'Neill said Murphy and Keogh were carrying injuries and he was going to send them back to their clubs but they wanted to stay. Keogh ended up going back for treatment but for some reason Murphy ended up staying and went on to miss his next league game with an aggravated injury.
So I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now. 10 league goals at this stage of the season and top scorer in the league is nothing to sniff at.
Two goals today make him leading scorer in the Championship last time I looked, on 13 IIRC
1 Daryl Murphy 13 Ipswich Town 2 Chris Martin 12 Derby County 2 Britt Assombalonga 12 Nottingham Forest 4 Rudy Gestede 11 Blackburn Rovers 5 Michail Antonio 9 Nottingham Forest 5 Callum Wilson 9 AFC Bournemouth 7 Igor Vetokele 8 Charlton Athletic 7 Mirko Antenucci 8 Leeds United 7 Hugo Rodallega 8 Fulham 7 Grant Leadbitter 8 Middlesbrough 7 Cameron Jerome 8 Norwich City 12 Bakary Sako 7 Wolverhampton Wanderers 12 Troy Deeney 7 Watford 12 Simon Cox 7 Reading 12 Jordan Rhodes 7 Blackburn Rovers 12 Andre Gray 7 Brentford 12 Matej Vydra 7 Watford 18 Patrick Bamford 6 Middlesbrough 18 Harry Bunn 6 Huddersfield Town 18 Kike 6 Middlesbrough 18 David McGoldrick 6 Ipswich Town 18 Nahki Wells 6 Huddersfield Town
Three Irishmen in the top 20, not bad.
Bamford is also eligible for Ireland but it seems he prefers England.
15th of the season after only one minute this afternoon against third placed Brentford
He has two now.

Murphy revelling in McCarthy's show of faith.
First senior hat trick for the lad, 17 for the season. He's already surpassed his previous season's best.
Seen one of the goals very confident in front of the keeper

Another one for Murphy - he's got back the goal tricky cruelly deducted from him.
First goal from open play in 10 games for McGoldrick in injury time to rub salt in Charlton's wounds. Murphy has 7 in his last 7 games now and leads the goalscoring charts with 3 more goals than Derby's Chris Martin.
Murphy, McGoldrick and Stephen Hunt respectively with the assists.
Luke Chambers with another clean sheet.
Another very productive day for the Irish at Ipswich.
Jay Tabb started too.
Hunt only came in after 94 mins acc to BBC.
McGoldrick hit the bar 3 times.

Very encouraging by Murphy. If only he can look as comfortable against even the lesser lights of European football. He has the ability.

He is pretty deadly from a foot out, not the best quality video, warning includes chant :)

Murphy in line for new contract, amid interest from Crystal Palace and West Brom.
Both relegation battlers, currently Ipswich are top tier team by two points, West Brom by one point
and Crystal Palace are a Championship team by 1 point.
So he will have to see whther he is taking a step up or a step down if he moves. I'd say he may well be better off staying where
he is.

Mick was nominated for manager of the month, but lost out to Bournemouth's Eddie Howe
Live on Sky tomorrow at home to Derby @ 12:15.

Video of all 17 goals in this link.
I am afraid he was very poor in the game against Derby where only McGoldrick stood out to any extent of the Irish on show.
