Whats the story with Celtic A V's B. How can a team top of the premier league for god knows how long (since gnasher was a gnipper anyway) get hockeyed six zip by (on this seasons form) a mediocre Super League side?
There cannot be that much between those two teams. Methinks Mr. Dykes had something to do with this, does he manage both teams?

First time posting so be gentle with me. I have been reading for a while and I am dissapointed because this forum has become just like the mayo papers. If it is not happening in the super league then it is not happening. There is a lot happenning in the other divisions that need highlighting and debating.
eg.
1.The collapse of Urlaur and ballyvary.
2. What is happening with the Claremorris strikers (57 goals and counting).
3 The battle for promotion in division 2b.
Just to name a few.
Come on lets open up the forum to MAYO soccer as the forum title says and not just super league.

Don't know if they got the points docked. The hearing on the suspensions was last night so maybe if someone on the 'inside' of the mayo league is a poster on this thread they can find out and tell us. Personally, I think we get docked the points but get reduced suspensions. Big week again this week, two games in three days, second week running, gonna get harder 'fore it get better.
Short_frank raised an interesting point, I remember Urlaur earlier on this year, barely fielded a team of hungover lads and were still not too bad, a lot of bickering though, seemed like they were on the slippery slope.
On the subject of the claremorris strikers, I have seen them play and they are better than division one, but they are not playing against the best defences in the county. They will definitely get promoted but a good measure of the teams in that division is how many goals they concede, rather than score.

yes claremorris are flying this year but every step up will get tougher for them but they deserve to be in premier division next year see how good they against swinford, castlebar ****** b etc
division 2b is getting real tight i think yes partry out on front and as i say from the start, they win division but be very tight with moy villa and now charlestown coming fast up behind, castlebar ****** c wont last the pace i think.
what the story about ballyheane one point deduction for abusing the ref in one game is that appeal?

Glad that mossy could join us again, must have been on his hols. Yes it looks likely the heane shall lose a point. But please dont refer to it as abusing the ref as it was more like denting his ego. I have never seen a referee write so many reports, the league will have to open a libary to store them in. I think the Wesport lads will know who Im on about. Teachers eh!!!!

On the subject of the Mayo League Administration committee, I agree totally with Mossy, the dinosaurs have to go, new blood with an idea of what is good for all football clubs in Mayo and not just focussed the reputation of the Mayo League itself is needed. After all, what is the league without it's clubs?
The under 21 and Oscar Traynor dictats have only served to copper fasten the bad feeling betwen clubs and administrators and has also shown they are way out of touch.

Was talking to a "well known" referee at the weekend and he was telling me that things are getting so bad with certain clubs that there is talk of boycotts. I also heard that Martin Roughneen is talking about calling it a day because of abuse.
We really need to sort out the referee problem. There are players and officials that I have seen giving totally uncalled for abuse because they don't agree with decisions. I have been on the end of bad refereeing decisions myself eg:- a player from my club was being booked and while this was happening and play had stopped the opposing team took a free and put it in the net and the referee gave the goal.
We turned up to a once big club in our away shirts and they were the same colour as the other club who didn't have a second kit and the referee allowed the game to go ahead even telling us that we were wrong because we didn't bring a second kit with us.
The one thing though that I would never do is direct abuse at the ref because lets face it who else will do the job, most certainly not me. How do we solve the problems arising and keep the few ref's we have.
Short Frank - Mr. Roughneen should give up the game if his heart is no longer in it. If you're not passionate about soccer and your club then you probably will get on very well with the typr of referee we have in Mayo. Lets face it, some of them are damn well useless.
The aforementioned senor has his bad days also, I have seen him on more than one occasion fail to give decisions to teams which they were blatantly entitled to. I'm talking Blind Man stuff here, you could decide because of the sound of the 'challenge' alone, you would'nt have needed to see it.
There are probably a few who can get up and down the pitch with the pace of the game and that is a big factor, you can see more and are closer to the action, the result : more correct decisions, less hassle from fans and players, everyone happy.
I would always stop short of abusing the ref in a personal manner but I think arguing or roaring because a decision has gone against you is part of every sport. It's not like the ref is going into the game not knowing that he may get hassle depending on his decisions, they are getting paid for it as well, more often than not by the fans who pay to come see the match.
It's fair to say we give most ref's a bad time but i think their performances should be reviewed and if they are seen to be incompetent for bigger games they can be sent to Lacken or Kilmore every other sunday as punishment, there has to be accountability in every profession, be it part-time or not.

Re: collaspe of Urlaur and Ballyvary. Urlaur are an old team with no new players coming on stream in what is a small area. It was always going to happen. Pity though all the same.
Ballyvary came down from a bad year in the Super League and lost a lot of players. Their best player, Declan Flynn, went to Snugboro, Joe Denilson will testify to his worth. Also they lost Cormac Jennings back to Manulla, Gary Costello to S & F and Colm Carney to retirement to name just some. They seem to have a very young team this year but will struggle to stay in the Premier. However the club as a whole is going well so there won't be any Urlaur type collapse.
Derek Glynn I presume is one of the Claremorris strikers? Well he is good enough for Super League so putting him in among Division One defences is akin to throwing a fox into a chicken shed.
It will be very interesting yet to see who gets promoted from Premier. ****** B will take the title but, save for a change in rules, they will not be promoted. I think Ballyglass and possibly Fahy could be the teams to watch. However I don't know if either are ready for the Super league and the teams getting relegated from the Super, likely Swinford and Glenhest at this stage, will probably come straight back up in their place (thats if Glenhest can keep their players).

I have to say I was slightly offended by the term "cup team". Maybe Snugboro came into this league with no more expectations than survival and maybe a good cup run. But ambitions can change. Snugboro have beaten nearly every side in the league this season, and have only lost twice, and both of those by the odd goal in three. Snugboro are looking at this league exactly the same as other sides in the shake-up, and that is, a Westport collapse aside, no one else has a chance. As you said yourself, the league table doesn't lie and Snugboro are a lot more than a cup team.
And the Celts beat the Manulla, Manulla, Manulla 1-0 so it's an all Castlebar final on the 14th of October? That was when it was scheduled at the start of the season?

Too true Oscar, Declan Flynn has been brilliant this year. And Michael Wallace the keeper has been world class. He pulled off two of the best saves I've ever seen in person against Ballyheane last night.
Derek Glynn and Danny Broderick are the Claremorris strikers aren't they? I remember Derek was brilliant when on the Mayo U-21 panel a couple of years ago. Claremorris pipped Snugboro to Premier Division promotion 3 years ago. Shows how much progress the Boro have made. Would Glynn ever leave Claremorris?
The only reason Division 2B seems to be competitive is because of the lack of quality. For anyone to drop points to Castlebar United or Swinford B is a problem. Partry seem to be the only good side in it.
Anyway I'm off to convalesce for another while.

With regards to division 2b as you said any team is bad by losing points to swinford b well party lost twice to swinford b 4 - 2 in partry in league and 5-1 in one leg of mcdonnell cup so be abit more respectable :D

Lucky escape for the port guys. Still ravaged with injuries, 2 zip down at half time, five goals in second half. Vinny O'Malley netted winner form all of a yard from a corner in the last minute of injury time. the place went bezerk. Unlucky on Ballina, definitely deserved the draw.

Think a few of ye are being harsh on Denilson. Snugboro are a small club and for them to be in the Super League at all is a fair achievement, for them to be competitive in same makes them second only to Westport in terms of achievement this year.
Can't wait for the mother and father of Westaro Cup finals too.
As for accusations of them 'taking players' I do believe players are allowed play for whoever they want. ****** have players from outside the town, Westport have two new guys in Harney and Quigley, S & F have Fergal O'Hara from Sligo and Erris even recruited Crossmolina's Brian Benson last year. Ballyheane have Joey Maloney, Manulla Michael D McNamara and Des Campbell, need I go on? It the way of the world
Sorry Gnasher, I wasn't trying to stir anything. I can't help it if I take offence from the term "cup team". You have since changed to "good cup team" which might not have offended me in the first place. Well done to Westport last night. Your assessment that we didn't play football against ye in Westport is correct, however we had a few injuries aswell and we certainly didn't go out with the intention of camping in our own half. It was just the way the game panned out. And we adapted our game to get the best result we could. It was different the next night when we went deservedly 3-0 up.
Division 2A is probably worse than 2B to be fair, at least 2B is competitive. It's been tough to defend the Boro B team lately, i mean they lost to Hollister. When they lost to Swinford B, they only had 9 players as the A Team called up players to avoid them being cup tied and in the end the manager ended up playing centre back. Swinford did play well that day though. But why did they lose 4-0 to Castlebar United at home?
Do people think that clubs should only play players who live in the area? It's definately a good idea in underage. But with the gap between Super League and the rest getting bigger(****** A Vs B!), shouldn't the best players in Mayo all be playing in the Super League? It's interesting the Limerick Junior League have started a thread called "transfer rumours" because of the amount of transfers in the close season of their league. And the LDMC is widely viewed as the best junior league in the country. Everybody in the Boro B team is from the Boro and hopefully they will graduate to the A Team in following seasons.

Good to see more interest in the other divisions in the league being generated! Fahy had a really good 3-1 win over Killala on Thursday night which leaves them clear 2nd in the Premier. The division is interesting in that a lot of teams seen capable of taking points off each other but nobody apart from the 'B boys can sustain any sort of long-term consistency. Some of the replies people sent to my query on opinions regarding the difference in standards between the divisions were very accurate; to do it in the Super league, you have to be able to mix it up a bit. Snugboro are perfect examples; we played them in a Mayo cup semi-final which we lost on penalties and felt there was very little between us, but they were the only team we had played who matched our desire. They were totally up for it and never lost concentration or let their energy levels flag. It's difficult not to respect them, and their performances in the Super league have only reinforced upon teams in our division what is really required to stay up once you get there. The alarming thing is that the top division seems to be improving every year. A trip to Snugboro next season seems a lot more imposing than a trip to Glenhest. There is a pattern emerging recently in Mayo, in which teams start to go in one direction and then gather momentum. We have won two divisions in three years and are hopeful of promotion. Mulranny have gone up twice in a row. Achill and Ballyvary have gone the other direction. It would be exceptionally difficult for a team coming out of the premier to stay up, but having fitness, hunger,and a good team spirit is a sound start.
Derek Glynn from Claremorris is scoring goals for fun in the 1st division, but it might prove tougher next year. He uses quick thinking and pace to beat defenders and invariably bears in on goal. It's effective, but smarter defenders might catch on early in the game.
