Half an hour into tonight's show and they haven't shown a game.
Tonight's show I felt was a vast improvement on the only previous show I watched. This celebrity six rubbish should be scrapped altogether as it adds absolutely nothing to the show, and these folks aren't even celebrities. Highlights were a bit better tonight, bit more MNS style, although there was still no real analysis of them. Delighted there's no music over the games though, as the bit of atmosphere is very welcome.
I'd like to see more time dedicated to LOI, but it's improving, and hopefully as the season progresses, they'll realise their only real market with this show is LOI fans.
Probably the best show so far. Keane does a good interview and the special guest knows the League. I can see it bit by bit going more towards the MNS format as the gimmicks are phased out.
Roddy was great reading the tweets on secondcaptains tonight. Niall Quinn had some interesting things to say, nearly paid a million plus for a LoI keeper, but still Roddy was the more impressive guest with with Dessie Doolan a close second.
Was watching that - what keeper was he referring to? The only one I can think of is Brian Murphy who went to Ipswich at the same time, but that was a free from what I remember and Quinn also said he was around the same age as Mignolet when Murphy is 4 years older.
Roy O'Donovan was not a keeper, in any sense of the word.
Yeah that was just the reported amount. Our Chairman thought that if we reported higher figures then it would have a knock on effect and make our players seem more valuable. Problem was the English clubs were all talking to each other so we never got the benefit.
OK so lets check again -
Hands up all those who believe that Sunderland "almost" signed a LOI goalkeeper for £1m / €1m a few years ago?
Have you got your hand up GypsyBlackCat?
I havent seen 2nd captains before. What on earth is the show about and why is Roddy Collins on it so much??
I've noticed that nearly every week, Soccer Republic is always in the most popular list on the RTE Player. MNS rarely made it into the list. So is this due to the fact it's getting more viewers overall or is it that due to the lateness of the show, more people watch it online compared with MNS. The optimist in me hopes for the former but the realist thinks it's the latter. How do posters on here watch the show? I record it and watch it later to skip the ads/boring stuff.
On a side note, thought last nights show was the best one yet.
I sky+ and watch at night during the week when I have peace and quiet in the house.
I don't think the show is as bad as some make it out to be, it has less on loi alright but mns was just talked way too much about nothing anyway so on average it probably has the same amount actually worth watching/ listening to and it's easier to skip through the boring stuff now. Also simple things like Goal Cam or whatever it's called makes it a bit better, if only it was at most grounds the show could look decent.
I don't actually have an tv capable of receiving RTÉ so I watch it live on the player.
It's steadily improving. The first show was shocking, but last nights was quite good in comparison.
The addition of an extra camera or two at certain games is very welcome. I'd like to see a second camera at all the games, as it adds hugely to the whole thing in my opinion.
On another positive note, the removal of any music from highlights is fantastic. I hated the music MNS put over their highlights and it's great to see that removed.
Analysis is still a bit poor though, but you'd come to expect that from their panel of 'experts'.
Disappointed altogether with the absolutely pathetic coverage of First Division, but again, that's expected. It's gone from reading out the results, to them simply coming along a ticker at the bottom. Didn't think the coverage could get any smaller, but RTE have outdone themselves in that regard again.
The celebrity six thing is a waste of time, and a few minutes that could be better used elsewhere.
I don't mind the 11pm slot too much, as I rarely watched it in the evening time anyway, so I usually have the TV to myself by that stage. It's not great for the casual football fan who may have tuned in earlier, nor is it any good for attracting in kids, but I'd imagine the spike in online views is due to the time slot.
I recall reading before that MNS viewing figures were actually very similar to that of the old EPL Premiership show, but that was possibly due to more people preferring to watch Match of the Day.
I thought last nights show was much better. All bar 5 odd minutes about the league games. One of the advantages of the late slot now is that you get to see the goals from the Monday games that night. The time doesn't bother me at all as I watched it on the player on the commute home this evening.
Yeah, it was scaling the heights of acceptably bad last night (purely because it was all killer, no filler, football-wise). Still, though, it's a desperately amateurish production for any national broadcaster to disgrace the world game with. Graphics & editing is the only department that can hold its head up.
Well I suppose there is no harm in having high standards Sheridan. I thoroughly enjoyed last nights show. My only issue is with some of the pundits but then that depends on perspective eg I just dislike Stu Byrne, he gives off an air of arrogance, faux superiority, and smugness and has the best bitter league winning interview. He is better than Roddy and his wind up antics (but then his comments on Pat Hoban have slanted any previous opinion). Dave Barry was very positive toward Dundalk last season and so can do no wrong if/when on. Kenny Cunninghams stint on MNS was excellent, Sadlier is ok too and the rest are bland I suppose but no more so than Shearer and Hansen on MOTD.
See thats the thing with Byrne, i'm not sure that he is really thinking what he says, its more like that no matter what he is not going to say x or tip y for the league. Ignorant more than arrogant then but undermines his punditry.
Ahhh so thats whats wrong with Rovers - and I just thought that Trevor Crolly is sh#te manager!
True, but why wouldnt he when the title was going down to the last day of the season and he was gonna pick up a winners medal with his beloved Shels - i'd use the super powers too
Ha, I meant he tipped him when he was at Rovers. I'm sure that even on the final day of last season, Stuey was still down the bookies putting a tenner on Rovers to win the league.
is there a ban on the presenters wearing ties on the show it was the same last year on mns ,some of the guests attire is shocking and dosen't present itself as professional just take a look at sky sports presenters always well dressed and suited up ,,not that it makes the coverage any better but saying its too casual and dosent come across professionaly well with the barstoolers
I think there's an argument to be made that full dinner attire isn't necessary to analyse a football match.
The analysts on ESPN/BT are always pretty casually dressed.
The show has improved since the dreadful first effort.
They've binned the cringe worthy free kick piece. It's not a bad idea to get something featuring the players to get us more familiar with them but that was terrible.
They also haven't mentioned the CL in the last few programmes and focussed more on the League of Ireland.
To be fair I'd say all those involved in the show are fans of the league so they're probably happy enough. It will be interesting to see if CL highlights are back next week.
This weeks show was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Showing the highlights of the Monday games on Monday evening - I thought that was great! Now why can't they move the show to Friday night 11.00pm and repeat it Saturday morning. Be like our own MOTD.
Yep have to say I enjoyed this weeks show, watched it last night, one of the best ones so far.
