I hear Town have signed Daniel Purdy, a striker formerly of West Ham who's an Irish underage international.
Scored 2 goals against us in a friendly last week for Rovers Reserves, quality signing
He seems to have a good pedigree all right. Hopefully he can make an impact.
Any word on da Don?
He was going over for this week so I wouldn't have thought there'd be any definite word until after they've had a good look at him in training for the week.
Signings being the key word!
Who else from Rovers reserves should we be expecting?! They're our biggest source of players it seems, not that that's a bad thing, they're usually pretty decent players.
Have we enough strikers? what's that 5? Looks like there preparing for Don going
Can never have enough strikers!
Purdy was only training with rovers reserves, his last club was west ham he is only home, so he doesnt count as another rovers player comin to us.
Sounds like a good signing and ye I'm also expecting Don to go unfortunately but if he does then best of luck to him. I was impressed with Jean the last day hes built like Don a bit only taller so hes a good target man and good at holding up the ball. He wont score anything near the amount Don did but if he can tee up the other strikers and cause opposition back four constant problems we should do ok without Don.
I'd prefer if he went now and we got a few quid for him than if he went for nothing at the end of the season, assuming he's out of contract then.
Just after seeing on a Millwall transfer rumour page that he played in a behind closed doors friendly against Brighton. £35K has been mentioned and he's apparently been dubbed 'The new Clinton Morrison'!
The new Clinton Morrison no less! I'd take £35k given his contract situation definitely, nearly €40k. It'd pay to run the club for the rest of the season anyway.
There's a thread discussing him here: http://www.millwall.vitalfootball.co....asp?tid=85729
Seems like he did well based on the one person that saw the game!
The original rumour site that Town Legend saw said £35k, that other mention of £20k was just one of their fans suggesting we'd see that as a fortune. We wouldn't but we might have to take what we can get. Seeing as we got him for nothing we can't complain too much though Rovers may be regretting letting him go permanently if he does end up going to Millwall. Barrett is still the record sale at €55k yeah. Might still be a record between LOI clubs I think, it's certainly up there.
Barrett to who was it?
Best bit of business we ever did. Tempered slightly by giving UCD €10k for Robbie Martin, but then he did get us into another FAI Cup final so he would probably have paid for himself with that goal.
Golly he was crap...
We better have a good few add on clauses in this don deal if it happens or we're getting shafted imo
If he had another year on his deal I'd agree but he's out of contract in November as far as I know at which point we'd get a minimal development fee if he went to England or nothing if he stayed in Ireland.
Rumour on the site above is that they won't be signing him.
what is the minumal development fee amount longfordian . sorry if I asked the same question before but I dont remember the answer. you were dead right on Shane Barrett he was never the same player after he left us so it was brilliant decisionmaking from the club board at that time!
Wouldn't go quite as far as that far Marty; Barrett put in some incredible performances for them after he joined initially - I remember him being a cut above any player on the park against IK Start in Europe and he hit a hat trick against Derry. A couple of fairly serious knee injuries curtailed his career badly when he may well have gone back to England. In hindsight we did well with the transfer fee, but I doubt anyone really saw his stark demise coming.
I can't remember exactly Marty but I actually think we'd only get something very small if he moves abroad and nothing if he stays in Ireland as we've only had him as our player for this season and whilst he's under 23 you have to have had him on pro forms for two seasons to be entitled to anything if a LOI club signed him.
Barrett was always injury prone that was his main problem all his career.
No brainer sums it up and was the club's thinking at the time too. No, Drogs paid up straight away, or rather one of their directors did, he paid it out of his own money. Shels took an age to pay us for Dillon, Ollie was doing his usual ducking and diving and roaring and shouting. It was only when he unfortunately got ill that the new chairman settled up.
Any news as regards Don yet? Has he returned or is he still over there and whats the verdict etc

Lions unlikely to purse Cowan interest:
The News understands Cowan returned to Ireland on Tuesday night.
Town have signed Jamie O'Brien from Pats, formerly of Bradford and Birmingham. Bit of info on him from the Pats site:

As confirmed by a member of our own backroom staff to me I can confirm exclusively that we have signed Darragh Satelle from Shamrock Rovers reserves
is he any good and what position?
Forward or midfielder it seems. Formerly of Hull, Celtic & Crumlin. You'd know that if you were checking the Town Facebook :p . Don't know if he's any use or not but time will tell.
