Did they get off to a good start last season also?? I heard they playin with alot of confidence at the moment, will be interedting to see if they can keep the form going!!
Abbeyfeale had a good win against Askeaton on sunday, were Askeaton understrength or good Abbey performance?
Ya Askeaton were understrength, missing a lot of the first teamers and had just the one substitute. They'll feel hard done by too as they matched Abbey for good sections of the game and went 1-0 up. Abbey took their chances well in fairness, so well done.
Shannonside did get off to a good start last year but if there's any team to keep their heads its them. Was looking around their team recently and saw just two of their players including the goalie were 25 or under. So there's good experience, but maybe some dodgey knees too.
Shannonside got off to a shocking start last season, lost the first two and then drew the following two, 4pts after 4 games. Took a while to get going but eventually found some form. Different story so far this season, played 5 and won 5, so going well at the moment. As Omarbarksdale points out, a very experienced side, with several players over 30, and you'd be right about the dodgy knees, you can include backs into that also. Will be a very tough season ahead, but you have to use the old cliche... one game at a time. A lot will depend on how other teams fare agains one another, and when the GAA season starts up again. St. Senans will be back training shortly so that could have an impact.
Good win for Abbeyfeale, thought Askeaton might have a bit too much up front, both fairly quick. Fair dues to Abbey they play good football and thats a good win, they're on a decent run also.
anyone have any players in mind for desmond league team.think the two front men for askeaton should have a go
[QUOTE=new boy;1405523]anyone have any players in mind for desmond league team.think the two front men for askeaton should have a go[/
There are a number of front men who could be picked... Michael Behan at Shannonside, the two lads from Rovers, O' Connor from Killeaney. You could go through almost every team in the premier division and pick at least one if not two strikers.
Who will make up the majority of the squad will it be Newcastle West, Rathkeale or will there be a few new faces for the side. I think there should be 2 or three fellas helping out to pick the side, it will be very difficult to get around and see everyone play. Who is in form and who is not.
I couldn't pick out an Abbeyfeale player that should make the Oscar Traynor side. Roche, up front maybe, and Joe Kelliher maybe but I've seen very little of him in the last few seasons. I think John Kelliher is an assett to most sides but maybe lacking pace for that level at this stage. If Maurice Carrig doesn't have any other commitments he's worth a call up I think. I'd also say Askeaton's centre half David Kenrick is very solid and pacey, and very versatile as a squad player. I'm just saying it'll be a tight league this year so I hope whoever's over the team considers enough options.
Where do you see Carrig fitting in if hes picked? It will be a close run thing this season as to the eventual winners you're right. There are enough quality players within the league for the Desmond side to be very strong and go far, maybe not as far as to be winners, like a few years back but competitive none the less. However this does all depend on who is selected and as mentioned before in numerous posts, if the players are interested. Do you think the management will be able to motivate the players?
Anyone know if the league got any/many tickets for the Russia game ?
Im looking for tickets for the Slovakia away game. Anyone know how to help me?
Try here for a start.

As far as I know the Oscar Traynor team was on the paper to-day. Anybody got the full squad ?
How Alan O Shea and Mikey Lyons are not on it is very surprising. Can anyone name a better right winger and centre midfielder on that squad?
Would I be correct in saying there is only one keeper in the squad?
has anyone seen PJ at any of their games latley?
Ya I think Shannonside should win the league .
Hardly see the Glin boys going to this. They havent came before when asked which is a shame. They always had good players down there.
Oscar Traynor panel as follows.... Ger Hanlon, Mike Behan, Anthony Mulvihill (Shannonside) Billy Quirke, Dave Roche, John Kelliher, Paul Doherty (Abbeyfeale) Gary Egan, Mike Clancy, Ray Lynch (Broadford) Adam Collins, Seoirse Joyce, Adam Collins, Mike O'Keeffe (Newcastle Rovers) Pat Madigan, Sean O'Connor, Brian Herbert (Killeaney) Pat Kenrick, Shane Doherty, Francis Kiely, (Ballingary) Maurice Kenrick, Mike Fitzgibbon, Willie Griffin (Askeaton) Daniel Power, Tony Quaid, Scott Hurley, Anthony O'Donnell (NewcastleWest) Barry Riordan, Barry Culhane, Peter O'Dea, Sean O'Shea (Rathkeale) Tommy Culhane and Gary Culhane (Glin) Joe McAuliffe, Niall McEnery, Seanie Curtin (St. Ita's). Any thoughts? Who is missing?
Is there two Adam Collins playing with Rovers? Or is he so good they named him twice? Ya I see two keepers, Quirke and Kenrick. How many is it whittled down to? There's 35 players there in total.
Thomas Geary definitely deserved a crack, Ncw's best defender for the last yr. Plus 3 players from Ballingarry and St Ita's ??? There is surely more quality in the prem division without having to pick so many from div 1
there are 2 goalkeepers on the the team in billy quirke and pa kenrick.. there are better players in the premier division, dunno why he picked players from the first division instead of players from the premier divison..he probably picked the st itas players cos isnt he from there??? ok joe mcauliffe is a handy player but i dont rate the other two players.....i also think maurice carrig (askeaton),thomas geary, sean cronin (newcastle west),alan o shea, mikey lyons (rathkeale),joe kelliher (abbeyfeale),johhny shanahan(broadford) would be better players to have on that squad than the first division players,no disrespect to them
totally agree mikey and Alan are two of the best in the league hands down how in the name of god is there three from Kileaney and st.Itas id keep Mcauliffe st.itas and maybe O'Connor from kileaney its just an opinion.......Sean Cronin NCW should also be included....Its true about the Glin Boys never show up for Oscar traynor hopeffully they will this time....I know we will never agree with the final panel no matter what it is
Haha this Desmond league panel is a joke. Sorry now im not making fun of anyone on it but for the love of god like!!! Is this the final panel or a training panel or what??? sorry now ive not seen the observer with being living in the big smoke.
Not too sure JTJ about that.
Like the most important thing is to get the panel correct the first time. They players mentioned above that are not picked will hardly come even if their asked. It depends on the individual of course.
Seany King and Francis Moore of Carrig are good enough players aswell in my opinion if you were going to ask players out of the Premier.I have to admit I dont know a few of the players mentioned on the squad.
I agree with most of the previous threads but in recent years I'm told that some players who were asked to play just didn't bother which is a shame. It should be an honour to represent your league and try to achieve what Christy Purcell's players did a few years ago. Perhaps the top players have too many commitments and don't wish to add the Oscar Traynor to their lists. If I remember correctly many years ago if selected one could be suspended for not showing up to represent the league.Does anyone recall this?
No Yorkshire rose I dont recall that, your showing your age there !!
I'd like to know what Western Gales take is on the squad being a Desmond League committee member and all ! Instead of just posting results all the time !
Paul (Ducie) Hogan-Rathkeale-RIP
Paul sadly died last weekend in Paris. His removal is Thursday evening and burial Friday morning.
Paul was only 20 and usually played left back for anyone that knew him.
the two boys from rathkeal should be on it and i think ray massey should have got a try on the team all the games he has played he did well for his first season in prem.div1 players some are handy but shouldnt you try put the prem players in first
John Joe Sheehy should be the keeper, i agree probably better players in the premier. If there was to be 1st div players on the squad Kelly(Ballingarry) & Hogan(Kildimo) would be 2 of the better options. But anyone care to have a guess how many players will pull out, from what I've heard most only found out they were in the squad from the paper on wednesday, surley PJ should have made contact to make sure they were interested first. I'm sure though everyone on here will wish whoever does eventually play the best of luck with it.
Sorry but with all the strikers ( power, Quaid, griffin, Behan, lynch and Riordan there is no room for ray Massey. He is food but doesn't have a patch on those six. Six in my opinion is too much. My only worry is that apart from Gary Egan there is no creative centre mid player in the squad. Should definetly add Cronin, Kelleher and Lyons.
I know John Kelleher gas been a stalwart for the league in the past and in my opinion is too slow to play along side o Donnell. Geary from Newcastle is the best aerial defender in the league and him and o Donnell already know each others games and would make it very tough for the opposition. I think o keefee and o shea will slot in nicely beside them.
Intersting to see how many of them will play for pj. I'm afraid from what I heard not a lot which is a pity. People won't follow fools!!!!
Good Luck to Rathkeale in The Munster senior Cup would be great to see a Desmond side have a run in the Competition. Derby Match in NCW should be a good game as both teans have made a decent enough start. NCW have had a few great results last few weeks but i fancy NCW Rovers if at full strength, from what I heard they gave Shannonside a real fright last weekend.
Agreed it would be good to see Rathkeale go far in the Munster senior cup, tall order for them, but they're a very good side, so fingers crossed for them. Derby game should be good, both decent sides, so makes for an interesting match up. As for last week giving Shannonside a fright... not sure where that came from really, the result suggests it was a lot closer than it was. Shannonside should have scored six or seven and the game put to bed long before NCW Rovers second.

Shannonside 4 - 0 Askeaton; 3 -0 at half time courtesy of Behan 2 and O'Connor. Behan completed his (perfect, header, left then right) hat trick with the 4th mid way through the second half. Good performance all round.
Congratulations to Rathkeale.
