Valiant performance from Fahy who were two one up fifteen minutes into the second half until we conceded a penalty and had a man sent off as a result. It was ball to hand and the sending off was harsh, although he was on a yellow card. Dessie converted and then went on to score another from a long kick out from Gary Cunningham which the Fahy defence allowed to bounce in their half, our keeper (who had a fine game) didn't come and Dessie snuck in a slotted it home.
Westport went one up two minutes before half time from a header at the back post by Vinnie O Malley. Fahy had defended well up up until then and should have scored in the first minute when a cross from the left found Gary Goggins with an open goal. Westport, unsurprisingly, had most of the ball but were constantly pressurised by Fahy, who saw good performances from Joe and Tomas Keane, Ed Carolan and Stephen Moran. Westport were astonished to concede two goals in as many minutes early in the second half with Richie Needham and Rob Moore scoring. Shortly after the penalty incident occured.
Westport's best, in my opinion, were Kipper Joyce, Dave Cameron and the two centre halves. Dave Hoban caused trouble in the air before a clash with a team mate left him with what looked like a bad enough injury. I hope, as I´m sure everyone at Fahy does, that it's not his knee, which caused him a couple of long-term absences. Dave Horkan got hurt too, so best of luck to them both. The Westport fans were numerous, vocal and good-natured, many of them commenting on how unneccessary our sending off was.
So the Westport machine ploughs on, while Fahy can hold their heads up on the back of three solid performances.
