not bad i suppose
Too many blue shirts in the crowd for my liking! Still great to get such a large gate for a freindly.
there actually chelsea fans in ireland
:p
Black&White, my views on Dundalk last night. Overall, looked more physical and with less flair than last year's team. Is this a Sean Connor trait? Couldn't really break down the 4-5-1 we played against you. Midfield seems to lack pace and penetration with only wide-man (Singh ?) looking as if he could beat a man. Mansaram - good once he gets the ball but looks very static; he could be gobbled up by a centre-half who can dominate him physically. Far less movement from Dundalk up front than from Quigley and Guy who played for Pats against us the previous week. Some good interplay down the right hand side from Dundalk but I don't think Rogers, playing left-full, did much attacking-wise. Bennion hadn't much to do but his kicking from pass-backs was shocking - sliced virtually everything. Summary - good solid physical well-organised side. Good luck with the season.
Just to develop my point a little further re Pats against Wexford, that was the problem with Pats in their 0-0 friendly against Wexford last Saturday. Quigley and Guy were fine, but watching Irish football over the years, I don't think that any team can really play two up front if neither can win the ball in the air. There is too much back to front balls at all levels of football and Quigley looks less than six foot and Guy less than five foot (joke !)
Guy's also one of the best header of the ball in the league and easily outjumps any centre half he's faced. He's not a striker though and yeah we absolutely need a big man, or at least a gary O'Neill type
Monaghan are playing pats in Frank Cooke Park on Monday evening
Glebe North 0- 7 Bohs.
Flodlights, pipe band and 3 trophies on show. Not bad for a friendly with a very helathy turnout for a Martin Finnegan benefit gig. GN sold c.2,000 tickets for the game. Bohs strolled through it and were 4 up at half time.
Owne Heary running the show from the back as usual.
Drogheda 0-0 Shels
Didn't get to the game but heard James Chamber's lined out for Drogheda
Must be hard to make an impact on the Solihull Motors first team alright, no great surprise he's looking at coming back. In all seriousness though Mathews tried to sign him for Longford in 2007 and had verbally agreed a deal but he re-signed with Shels at the last minute. No real surprise he'd have a look if he was coming back to Ireland.
Chambers played the last 25 minutes or so. The first pre season game ive been to this year. It wasnt a great game. There were hardly any clear cut chances but it was a decent performance from Shels. The drogs will struggle this season.
Galway Utd vs UCD
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm in Enfield Park, Marriot Hotel
That would be David Mulqueen. I agree i was dissapointed that we failed to create any clear cut chances but Madden looked good up front. Can anybody tell me when Drogs signed Chambers. I was under the impression he took a job in england and had signed for Solihull Moors.
We beat mayfield 4-1 tonight. WJ Kiely hat-trick, Paul McCarthy got the other.
dont know if its been posted yet
but we beat kildare 3-0 tonight
a goal each for Roberts Mezeckis Dan Murray and Guntars Silligailis
kildare are a poor side, they need some serious work to have any chance at staying up this season based on tonights game
What did the Drogheda fans make of their crowd at the Shels game? With it being your first game since very nearly going to the wall i was expecting a massive home crowd. A call to arms so to speak but considering what i said i thought it was a poor turn out.
Are there many Bohs fans expected to make the journey to Lissywoollen today?
Chambers hasn't signed, probably on trial, but he was excellent when he came on. Passed the ball very well and got stuck in with his tackles.
As regards us being poor? Well that was the first game that group have played and to hold a settled team like Shels to a scoreless draw was a great achievement.
We may struggle this season, but at least I can see us competing well against the bottom teams IE. Bray, Galway, possibly Sligo
