These clubs are budgeting for what they would get through on an avg season in the winter and it is coming up short. They are frustrated that just a few clubs what to chase something that is miles off and may never get i.e. group stages of champions league.Quote:

What are you talking about? Seriously could you go back and edit that. There's a better standard of football today than 5 years ago, but the Shelbourne team of 5 years ago would walk it? Similar to the thread 'Are crowds up or down' there seems to be anecdotal evidence for both sides but no actual figures. Anyone even do a 'badly estimated' attendance watch back then?
From fans at City who were around back then(I wasnt a fan), our basic crowd(and average) is up but we're getting less of the big once of crowds and at the same time less of the tiny crowds.
I accept that crowds at certain clubs may be down, some are up and others are roughly the same. Unless someone can give figures showing that crowds are down overall though I really don't see how things are way worse now.
There has been loads of bad publicity about teams in trouble this season. Why? Imo its because of the wage cap.
Because its actually being enforced.
How long were Shels allowed go on before there was bad publicity and eventual implosion? It may be bad publicity but at least the clubs have a chance to sort themselves out before being the next Shels.
Its making clubs wake up, and not just keep going til they cant any longer.
So Il take the bad publicity now, if it means people running clubs will get the picture and within a few years we may actual have a properly run league.
4(?) clubs have been publicly 'in trouble' this season, what have they done? Kept on spending a la Shels, or started to try to sort it? Letting players go, getting them to cut wages etc etc.
Give it time, clubs will find/learn their place(financially). This is the first year the clubs had to budget and explain how why they hadn't stuck to it, and cut their cloth to suit. Some clubs got it wrong, once they stay in business they can learn from it and not do the same next season. Its easier when you arent allowed gt away with just carrying on.
They sky isn't falling, we'll get another sponsor, clubs will be stopped from buying and paying players until they go bust, we'll keep improving in Europe and maybe even start to try to increase attendances.

RTÉ Sport has learned that eircom will end their sponsorship of the Irish domestic league at the end of the current season.
The telecommunications group began their relationship with soccer in this country in 2000, sponsoring the national side before extending their commitment by becoming title sponsor of the league shortly afterwards.
Both deals are due to expire this year with the company expected to maintain their relationship with the international side but end that with the domestic game.
The news will come as a further blow to the League of Ireland which has seen many clubs forced to make cut backs already this campaign.
The FAI refused to confirm or deny the news but said in a statement: 'We are currently in discussions with eircom on all aspects of sponsorship. The talks are at an advanced stage and we won't be commenting any further until they have concluded.'
How the f%%k can they come up with the headline and paragraphs 1 , 3 and 4 without taking into account the last bit they wrote.
