Same could be said of Limerick, still finding their feet. Top half can't be ruled out for them if they get going. As for Rovers, I'd agree ye should get going. Lacked a bit of a killer instinct last night. There were one or two mistake I think Sligo would have taken.
Lucky escape alright. I've been impressed with Curran's attitude from the games I've seen. When Limerick were behind he was looking to raise the players. I can't say I was impressed with Gamble's reaction to Curran looking for him to raise it a bit. Poor distribution of the ball at times from Gamble. Limerick were lucky one or two more error didn't lead to a goal like the first.
Rover's in fairness played well when down a man, coped well and probably should have won. Curran was very unlucky the ref didn't give advantage when fouled for the sending off. Advantage should've been played and also a poor decision not to give Limerick a free at the edge of the Rovers area early in the first half.
It's still early days for this Limerick team. They need to cut out the sloppy mistakes and sort out a few positions as mentioned by AlanOB which you'll expect to be sorted over the next few games as the manager sees more of the players etc.
Chambers won the league? Ryan was the outstanding player in that team. It'd make about as much sense to pick one of our less key players and say they were better than Finn because we won the league last season. To be honest, I'd be delighted if Croly thought Chambers was as good a player as Ryan and decided to spend the rest of the season trying to make the team revolve around him.
Chambers played in a flat midfield four for much of that season, if I remember correctly. He's well capable of it, and I'd personally have Rice in the defensive role and Chambers further forward.
If Crolly persists with building formation and tactics around Chambers, I can`t see Rovers stringing any reasonable run of results together which will challenge Sligo. I didn`t see the Limerick game but it is reported that you played better faster paced football with ten men than with 11. Similar story against Bohs.
Chambers arseing around at a leisurely pace in mid field gives opposing teams plenty of time to settle, but moving the ball at pace with ten (or eleven men on the infrequent occasions when you have them) will cause problems for any team in this league. Anyway..carry on!
Chambers was excellent for Rovers on Tuesday. He was up and down all evening, very physical in the middle when he had to be, closed down well and made some good attacks.
I'd have Chambers in the team all day long, but with the personnel available I think he'd be more effective further forward with Rice picking up the defensive responsibilities.
I know the match was Monday but commenting now
Great game on Monday between Shels and Bohs. Even if the crowd at the match on Monday if what it use to be at this fixture 10 years ago the players played their part and made it a great old Dublin derby. I'm amazed at how Tolka has gone into disrepair. Ballybough Stand is no longer in use and most of the seats are rusted or damaged, the pitch looks poor(I know Dalyer isn't great at the moment) and the toilets didn't even have proper lighting.
Hospitality was excellent. Just simple things like decent toilets including toilets for women.
No problem with food and beverage, i.e didn't have to be told there was no water left or johnny only brought the one kettle(seriously!)
Limerick sent some tickets to the club in advance which was very convenient. No problems going in to the other stand to hang flags.
The Information for traveling fans on their website giving various details for parking, what time we could enter the ground etc was very professional.
Limerick fans were great too, many came over to talk about the match at the end.
And just to answer about the Gardai. Limerick paid to give our supporters buses a full escort out of the area to ensure nothing would happen.
Having experienced a 'every bus for themselves' scenario coming out of grounds before, it was very impressive from Limerick having the escort.
Hopefully your own club will have learnt a thing or two about good hospitality then.
Rovers go to the trouble of turning the sprinklers on and giving our players a cool refreshing shower before leaving the pitch, they are the very soul of hospitality.
