Just stumbled across Stephen's twitter. Last post, on July 30: "staying in manchester!"
Riiight.
he sprung downing early on with a lovely two touch take/lob - downing was through 1 v. 1 with the keeper and probably should've scored. not much maybe but it's something... :D
I can seriously see Alex Ferguson taking a chance on him.
Twitter:
might have to give trap a buzz to get a game!
thought you might have been taking the mick, but no, here it is: http://twitter.com/#!/StephenIreland/status/7731599000997888

What a **** if he has posted that.
Some of those twitter links posted here don't work unless you delete %40 from the link.

Looks like he has posted that.
try replacing the %40 with @ - http://search.twitter.com/search?q=@StephenIreland
Officially trending in Ireland now: http://trendsmap.com/local/ireland
says 3 hours ago for me?
I think it's actually him, but don't think I'd take it too seriously.
slightly off topic, Noel Hunt updates his account regularly enough - http://twitter.com/#!/boyhunt
Talks a lot about I'm a celebrity, shoot me in the head! I mean, get me out of here!
Cue: So is he joking or is he really serious?
:poo:
A modern day prodigal son if Stephen Ireland came crawling back to his country's football team now that his club career has gone tits up.
I never liked the ending of that story the father should have given that scrounger son of his the boot.
Our nation's current plight also reminds me of that story thinking about it.
from Sky News' Enda Brady: http://twitter.com/#!/endabrady/status/7830006977794048
which (to be fair) he did claim about a week ago: http://twitter.com/#!/endabrady/status/6344868334927872Quote:
Stephen Ireland on twitter this afternoon . . . confirming what I told you all a week ago!

my football prediction for 2011 . . . .Stephen Ireland to play for Ireland again. You heard it here first . . . . .

and whatever anyone thinks, I'm told @StephenIreland will be welcomed back. "Water under the bridge, let's move on", I hear . . .
He would be welcomed back, by me at least. He'd be a good alternative to Robbie.
Let Enda Brady say what source he is using to say he "is told" SI would be welcomed back. Could have been Yapster.
Even if he came back who among us would be confident he would be there in the following games when we needed him? He could flake out at any moment putting us all through the same bullocks again.
i knew this cretin would come crawling back when he needed us. F*ck him.
We dont need anyone of that mindset in our squad. His footballing ability is a complete irrelevance to the matter in my opinion.
If this is true, can you imagine the reaction when he plays for Ireland. The booing and verbal abuse from the fans will not help someone with a fickle personality.
This article seems to pour some cold water on the rumours about the Bald One.

Why would Manchester City inform UK journalists about whether the account was his? Surely they'd ask Aston Villa?
I could have accepted him back 18 months ago but not now. I wouldn't boo him or anything but I'd feel dirty and rotten inside if he did wear the green jersey again. Talented player but we'd have to drop Keane or Doyle to make way for him and is that fair/right?
He's pretty much useless in a 4-4-2 formation. That's why he's not in the Villa team. If you want to get the most out of Stephen Ireland, you'd have to build your team around him. But who in their right mind would do that?
It would be a total disgrace to accept him back. Lying to his team-mates, coaches and fans, constantly sniping about 'It's so great to not be there, I have so much time with my family now, blah blah blah' every time he gives an interview, admitting he rejected going to lots of underage squads as soon as he got his move to the UK - HE DOESN'T GIVE A F*** ABOUT IRELAND. He couldn't be used in our formation, he's a mentally unstable lunatic, and he would rather sit on his arse than play for his country. Give me Paul Green any day over him.
Although the whole Twitter thing is probably a windup anyway.
Houiller is prepared to be patient with him. It is amazing that two years ago, whatever our feelings about him, he was the best Irish midfielder in the Premiership. Now it seems his career is going nowhere. This is a story that will keep us intrigued for the next ten years I think!

Good point from a few above Geysir.
Turning out to be all rubbish as always. But I do wonder what he heard and from who. Thats the problem with media these days. They make up so much S%#T I don't know when to think it might be based on something.
It was interesting that Houiller chose to start with a dwarf in midfield ahead of our Stephen but in fairness to Stephen he did relatively well for the 20 or so minutes he played against Arsenal. He'll probably start Villa's next game so that puts a possible Irish return on the back burner. Thankfully.
Fly, can you actually type text or do you only ever post links? :)
he told me to tell you "only links"
Watching Ireland against Liverpool, and the chap just doesn't seem interested. Commentator even slagging his lack of effort.
