I genuinely think Everton would be the best fit for Keane at the moment
Whether Everton could afford him is another matter because he has to be worth about 8-11m even today
Young and Milner may be wingers per say but lately, so is Robbie, and as for Agbonlahor...tell me honestly...if Robbie went to Villa and it was a choice between him and Agbon, who do you think would get the nod, and who do you think the fans would prefer....cos in neither case would it be Robbie, so what happens then....he once again becomes an in and out player and next January he will AGAIN be "going to sunderland" ....
Everton are his absolute best move. But cant see Moyes taking him on, he didnt like McFadden so he wont like Keane
Really? Would you like to list the games he's played as a winger lately?
He's not in the Spurs side because Defoe is on fire & has been all season and when Keane has had his chances in recent weeks (and he's had a few) he has been poor. I'm a big RK fan but I can see when he's not up to scratch and this season he hasn't been. Early in the season him & Defoe played well together but since Crouch has come they have become the preferred pair.
It's more than Defoe though. The Modric/Krankjaar role at Spurs is also a factor. Robbie's a very good player but he's not versatile enough to operate outside his comfort zone in terms of his role in a particular team. For me he really only excels with a traditional 4 man midfield.
He's not clinical enough to oust Defoe, and whilst he's a more rounded player than Defoe, it's not as crucial to Redknapp given what he gets out of Modric (which is not an out and out left winger). If for example Modric or Kranjaar were unnavailable, and Bale was playing left wing with Lennon on the right, I would expect Keane to start every time.
A move to Villa would be a decent move but still offering plenty of competition for him. Ironically I think him and Carew would play well together. And whilst Agbonlohour his good enough to keep Keane on his toes, I don't think he'd keep him out of a team on a regular basis. Downing is getting back and I think O'Neill leaned alot on Young in recent seasons. So the options would benefit Villa and O'Neill as a team preparing to challenge more so than Keane the individual if he did move. He should only move if he's up for another challenge as opposed to a garauntee of football.
A lot of truth in that peepee but Modric Keane & Defoe all played the first month of the season before Modirc got injured. The turnaround for Keane has come since then. Kranjcar arrived but wasn't starting in Modric's place and Spurs looked a bit disjointed until he took on the Modric role & by then Crouch & Defoe had gone to the top of the queue and RK was back on the bench.
I think Villa or Everton would be good for him but personally I don't want him to leave Spurs because I still think he has an important role to play, if Pavla goes then it's 2 from 3 and they can all play together.
OK The VILLA fans currently prefer Agbonlahour and the IRISH fans currently prefer Keane!!!! What do you reckon the non Villa or Irish football fans think???
The only thing he has over Keane is pace.
......or they listen to Andy Gray too much and like most fans are incapable of forming independent thoughts.
Keane has experience & touch & creativity ahead of Agbonlahor who has Pace, youth & Englishness (big factor in the relevant worth of an EPL player)
The cold facts are unless you are a Torres, Drogba or a Rooney in a top 6 side you are likely to be in some sort of rotation, the trick is to be able to play alongside different types of players effectively.
:) We'll have to agree to disagree, man. He's a good player but I don't think he has enough about him other than raw pace to keep Keane out of a team on a regular basis.
I don't think it's misplaced loyalty on my part either cos I've said a few posts back that I wouldn't start Keane ahead of Crouch or Defoe in the current Spurs line up.
Fair enough Peepee, they are both decent players no doubt, and i agree with Enda that being English is a serious plus in the eyes of the world, not just England.
Robbie to me, has really underperformed and never consistently lived up to his undoubted potential.
He has/had it all potential wise, but just never came through in the way he could have.
For me a young Robbie Keane had the potential to be a world star, a genuine global superstar. Bad moves (inter, leeds) really stunted him. And Tottenham is a bad club for any striker if you ask me. Even Defoe! Wait and see.....
Would dearly love to see Robbie go to Goodison and get 5 years of first team football at a real football club, but cant see it happening. Maybe West Ham with new money could be another decent option if they stay up.
But please, for the love of God please.....NOT Celtic :(
Keane only really found a home at Spurs, he was unlucky with his Inter move it was very brave and should be applauded that he had the courage to go to Italy at a young age, had Inter not changed managers who knows how it would have panned out.
The move to Liverpool was always a mistake, it was clear to everyone that it would be a disaster, Benitez was never going to break his Torres/Gerard axis & Keane was going to be shunted out wide or left as a bit part, ironically with their subsequent injuries I think he might have done well for them but it wasn't to be.
He still has imo a few decent years left in him at the highest level, a bit like Sheringham RK can use his brain to compensate when his body may not be 100%.
If I'm honest I don't think I've ever believed Keane to be Inter Milan or "Top Four" material. Saying that as an Ireland fan there's very few players outside the top four I'd trade him with for us. He is what he is. Over rated and under rated in equal measure!!! We'll miss him when he's gone, that's for certain.
Think Inter sacking Lippi at the time was the straw that broke the camels back for Keane at Inter. Robbie was very unlucky with that , if lippi had stayed it could have all turned out so differently for him. Personally , at the time i fancied robbie to do well at inter and i have no doubt that he would have had not Mr Moratti got trigger happy and let Lippi go...but thats just my own view.
As for the "top four" issue....its a tough one to call.... i think during his best days at spurs imo he most definitely was. As per a previous poster said, if he was english, he would have been a permanent fixture in a top 4 club....looking at the fee jolean lescott was bought for and Richie dunne was sold for....it really makes you scratch your head sometimes with wonder on how they judge a players ability....but sadly you have the corporate factor ....english crowds want to see english players ...thats the only reason i can come up with for the dunne/lescott saga....but surely corporate success for a club means winning trophies and for me Dunne is a winner, lescott is a pretender to his thrown
For this season , the top 3 will be most likely chelsea,United and arsenal --- looking at owen with united and bendtner with arsenal......makes you think....how good a player has to be ,to be classed as top 4 player. Owen was a fantastic player and still has something to offer but injury has caused him to lose alot of his previous capabilties and as for bendtner ...i just think he is a completely overrated player...but they are just my opinions....Give me keano anyday over them.
As earlier posts said the krancjar/modric factor is a huge part of keanes downturn at spurs....robbie never really had burning pace like defoe..he was always the guy who for me was at his best in the hole behind the striker allowing him to utilise his attacking capabilties as well as his fantastic determination to track back and help midfield out when needed.
I pray He gets what he and ireland fans deserve which is regular place in a starting line at a club with potential and proper management because robbie still has a lot to give.
As Dr Peepee said and its for certain, we will truly miss him when he retires....Robbie Keane...Republic of Ireland Captain and Legend.
I couldn't give two ****es if Agbonlohor is deemed better or whoever as long as Robbie produces the goods for us which he has done for 12 years
ok let me play devils advocate here for a minute, would celtic be such a disaster? Robbie is such a confidence player ( as most strikers are, but particularly robbie ). If he was to move to celtic he would be no 1, the main man. There would be no looking over his shoulder and he could play with abandon and a spring in his step. Of course it would be a step down but every time he plays for ireland he would be brimming with confidence and probably full of goals. It never harmed Henrik Larssons international career. Also there would be a genuine chance of Champions League football every year. Im not saying it would be ideal, just a thought
Thats a fair point Ron. I dont think a move to Celtic would be the end of Robbie but I still cant help but feel that he is too good for the SPL.
I believe Larsson went on to play for Barcelona after Celtic...
larsson was a nobody really, he went to celtic because well he wasn't really doing anything with feyenoord, keane on the otherhand will not return to a higher level. celtic will signal the end of his career.
it be different for someone like shane long or even kevin doyle where celtic may offer them a chance to step up their game and let them develop confidence.
Larsson was never a nobody. Was always a talent before going to Celtic. Came to a lot of peoples attention during WC'94.
There was a contractual clause that Wim Jansen (ex Feyenoord manager) knew about and took advantage of to bring him to Celtic. Larsson says he was desperate to leave the Dutch team by then as the manager was playing him all over the place.
Different times these days in the SPL. Robbie won't be going there.
Maybe Robbie Keane could become Martin O'Neills Henrik Larsson at Aston Villa (if you know what I mean)
That would be the fairy tale scenario. Larsson was a better finisher though.
I remember that game (champions league final) when Larsonn played as an inteligent team player and was a major factor in Barcelona winning that game.
Thierry Henry did not play as an inteligent team player:p and well.
Harry was on the news yesterday saying that Robbie is not going anywhere and he can't understand the speculation surrounding him.
Harry Redknapp has claimed it would take an offer of £50m to sell captain Robbie Keane in this transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has lost his starting place in recent weeks, infuriated the boss Tottenham by organising a players' Christmas party last month.
But Redknapp insisted the £12m signing from Liverpool last January is not for sale.
"Please God, he'll still be here in February," he said. "Robbie's here. He is the captain and very important to us, unless someone comes up with £50m or something for him."

how refreshing to read a balanced, well thought out and insightful post. A rarity in this forum at the moment.
There are 3 or 4 posters who i am convinced are orchestrating this non-stop negativity about this forum. Its insufferable having to read through pages and pages of absolute gash.
atleast your still cool stu :)
If Martin O Neill wants him then brilliant. He's excellent at getting the best out of people.
Richard Dunne is proof of that
Dropped again last night :(
He needs out ASAP and with Villa seemingly about to buy Beattie  and Everton having no money....
Not good times for Robbie, not good atall.
Spurs fans less than in love with him these days also.
He aint the "fans favourite" he used to be at the lane any more. Far from it. Think the move to the pool, coming back with his tail between his legs and failure to produce any form atall has if anything made him un-popular with the tottenham faithful. Brother is a season ticket holder at the Lane and said there is very little love for Robbie anymore.
What will become of our national captain...
Maybe Trap can take him to Juve with him!!
Think I seen him linked with West Ham in the Star today
