Kris Kristofferson
He was a complex character. Not just a big-hit songwriting superstar and A-list actor, Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar with a master's degree in English from Oxford. He was also a Golden Gloves boxer, a star college Gridiron player and played rugby (for Oxford). He rose to the rank of Captain in the US army where he flew helicopters. Unfortunately, despite his high achievements, much of his life was blighted by alcoholism which he eventually conquered. A day in the life of an alcoholic was harrowingly laid bare through his masterpiece Sunday Morning Coming Down.
