Every time I have seen Everton on tv this season, it's been like watching paint dry. The match against Chelsea last night was so boring aided and abetted by a similar functional Chelsea side who could pass just slightly better. Their style of stopping the opposition play has obviously worked reasonably well for them but they SEEM to be totally devoid of any sort of flair. Not sure whether they created one decent chance the whole game and Chelsea were the same. I know that as far as Everton supporters are concerning (like all supporters), it's a results driven game and they are no doubt delighted with their season but as a neutral that game was like watching paint dry.
I didn't watch the game but to be fair to Everton, some of their more creative players were missing. Arteta and Cahill are big losses for them.
No Artetta No Osman No Cahill take 3 of the best players out of any midfield and see how well they play . If liverpool lost Gerrard Alonso and Macherano or chelsea lost Lampard essien joe cole . or Utd lost ronaldo scholes and hargreaves you see where im going with this.
Everton fans are far from a result driven set of fans after the win at Derby they where furious with the display the last 4 or 5 games have been terrible last night was a little better at least we passed it and went at them.
I enjoyed last nights game thought it was a good old fashioned physical game , but its at the end of a season everton have prob played nearly 50+ games with long runs in the carling cup and Uefa with a tiny squad which ment the starting 11 played in nearly every game Carsley for example has played nearly every minute of the season at 34 years old !! Its starting to show on the team now.
If you where expecting free flowing silky football you where looking in the wrong place.
At least Tom Hicks seems to like watching Everton........
Great result to finish off a good season all round, 21 goals from YAk !!! 10 for Lescott. And when you think that we played large chunks of the season with out Cahill and Artetta.
Secured 5th place with 5 points to spare Moyes needs to be given a big budget to go get who he needs in the summer and keep what he has.
Oh yea and it only took us 37 games and 81 minutes to finally get a penalty !!!
No wonder Johnson's tally is so low this season:p

Incase anyone didnt get to see it here's Jose Baxter's first senior goal he has just turned 16 ive been banging on about him since he was 14 another great talent coming through all ready signed up to Rooneys agent and had a boot deal with Nike since he was 14.
Good to see the kids getting a run out in preseason Rodwell looks a tidy player then up front Lucas and Agard are both quality strikers Kissock and baxter have done well on the wings. And another kid that came on O Kane aswell looks good. If 2 of them can make the step up this season it will be good i reckon Rodwell and Lucas with a few others getting a chance due to the ridiculously small squad again.
AJ gone for 13 mill , Wyness quits, Moutinho and ochoa bids expected and moyes wont sign untill he gets the players he wants in. Finally some action

Who'll take the penalties:eek:
More like who'll get the penalties
Indeed:D
Artetta takes the spot kicks it took us 37 games and 82 minutes to get given one last year so its should nt be a big concern :D
Moyes had to take it. i think it will rise to 13 with apearances etc bout 11 mill in cash is still crazy money for him. Good player not a big loss if he is replaced and when you consider the Yak was 11 and got 21 goals getting 13mill for AJ is like xmas time
Yeah Yakubu is twice the player Johnson is. How's he been pre-season? One for my shortlist for my dream team :D
Didn't see the game the other night but another close call for Liverpool. Stanley Park also on hold due to lack of funding. Make or break this year for Benitez I suspect. Badly needs another major trophy and please God Robbie will score soon score.
Just thought I might bump this thread with the separate threads going on Steven Gerrard x2 and Tony Hibbert and with the Merseyside derbys x2 coming up soon.
Three quick points to make;
I am confident Everton will give as good as they get from Liverpool over the next two weeks. I believe we will triumph in at least one of the games.
Secondly that Tony Hibbert post is ridiculous, he's been a great servant to Everton, reliable and tough in the tackle. Better than any right full Liverpool have had in recent times and that includes Josemi!!!
Thirdly, I believe Arsenal have the quality to win the league, the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Hibbert better than Finnan, get a grip son
Some crazy stuff going on in this debate. Should be good matches over the next few days. Pool could find it hard to break Everton down tonight but I think the Anfield atmosphere will just see them over the line. Hope I'm wrong though!!
Draw written all over it, as a result of both playing one man upfront, and Everton with 10 men in the box all night.
Haven't beaten Everton and the mancs in the league at home in the same season since 2000/01. :(
This cements my view of RB as a charlatan - the spoofer scores and he takes off Keane and Torres - truly truly stunning
confirms my opinion that Reina couldn't catch a cold never mind a ball!!!
Benitezs negativity is killing Liverpool.
Title challenge is down the swanny, 4 draws in the last 5 home league games is horrific form.
I don't like saying it but Liverpool's best 11 does not include Robbie Keane. They missed Mascherano big time last night. He throws himself about and adds a tempo to Liverpools game. It also allows Gerrard to do what he's good at as he doesn't contribute nearly enough as one of only two midfield players.
If Rafa is to go with a Keane/Torres partnership then I think Gerrard should be thrown out on the right as he was to good effect a couple of yrs back. This would spell the end for the hard working but all round sad excuse for a footballer that is Dirk Kuyt.
That wasn’t the greatest game of football ive ever seen (derby’s rarely are) but it was exciting. Thought Everton as the visiting team and without any decent strikers did very well, Rafa put out a very attacking minded team with Keane, Torres & Kuyt all starting.
Torres is a nightmare to play against prob the best striker in the league IMO and was unlucky, Went down very easy to get Pienaar booked and could of had a penalty but it would have been very very soft.
Everton overall played well bar the useless lump Anichibe he was an embarrassment to the club last night spent most of the day walking around instead of chasing everything down like Cahill was doing and the dive in the box instead of shooting was pathetic I hate to see that crap we ll leave that stuff to cheats like Gerrard.
Baines was the best player for Everton all the back 4 had a great game again ( first goal they let in in something like 10 hours of football )
2 mistakes led to 2 goals Gerrard was given way too much room Neville should have been in there closing him down and Cahill was left unmarked by Skrtel other than that very little between the teams.
Delighted to see Cahil throw Skrtel in to the crowd when he body checked him in the corner there is a difference between sheparding a ball out and what skrtel did
Sunday will be a different game entirely.
It's not often i'd disagree with you anto but I thought Victor did well last night; he was very strong on the ball, worked hard and was slightly unlucky not to get a penalty. The back four were excellent. Baines was brilliant and I think all the Hibbert doubters should take a good look at themselves. He yet again proved how much of an unsung hero he is in that team. It wasn't a great game by any stretch of the imagination but most definitely a satisfactory result for the toffees!
I agree, I thought Anichebe was very good last night. I think he's a rubbish striker by the way but he spent most of the night on the left wing holding up the ball and used his strength very well. Cahill was immense all night, chased down evrything and won a fee frees. He really deserved his goal at the end and he was very honest in his interview afterwards. I think Liverpool will probably win the cup game the wkd as they will play with less pressure on their shoulders.
But where is the Vic that used to use his power and pace to break through defences and slot the ball home like in europe ? i think what summed him up last night was when they had a corner the ball was cleared up the pitch he was the closest to the ball but strolled out cahill who started 20 yards behind him ended up 40 yeards in front of him putting pressure on there defenders trying to get it back into the box where was vic Still half way inside his own half !!!
This is his chance to stake a claim on the first team place with everyone else out he should have ran himself into the ground like Cahill did. This now and coupled with an alarming amount of stories of him ignoring kids looking for autographs after games tells me he is getting too big for his boots and needs a swift landing he is the poor mans emile Heskey and he needs to realise this. A championship footballer in both skill and attitude at best.
Suffering Jebus, you thought Hibbertt was good!!!!!!!
Did you watch the game atall?? Every single time he tried to pass from possesion, and I am not making a sweeping statement, i am seious, every single time, he gave it away. Every single time. He made one decent tackle and you think that justifys giving Liverpool back possesion every single time he had it......
Are you completely insane???
Do that to Ronaldo and see what happens!
Hibbert is an embarassment to the shirt. We would be FAR better served with PN at right back and get Castillo into CM
HIBBERT:mad:
I can remember at least 2 times where he passed it to Pienaar ;)
It's hard to know. I think the Keane/Torres partnership has to be given a chance but not at the expense of Mascherano. That pretty much leaves the only option being Gerrard on the right instead of Kuyt. If after an adequate amount of matches Keane isn't doing his stuff he should be dropped and Gerrard played off Torres. All of this is completely irrelevant anyway because Rafa wants to have Dirk's babies.
The whole point here is that Rafa is supposed to know this, and is supposed to have a plan when he signed Keane. Keane effectively plays the same role as Stevie Me - Rafa has tried to sell Gerrard twice and tried to sell Alonso last summer.
Rafa clearly has no idea how to play Torres, Keane, Gerrard and Alonso and is demonstrably a spoofer
