What games are on to nite lads
On the MSL thing.I presume the MSL expect at the very least you have an enclosed pitch and dressing rooms, all of a decent to high standard. Also that you can prove your not a flash in the pan club if ya follow me.Good backing commitee an sponsorship wise, plans for the future an all that.Underage structure would be a major factor. I cant remember off hand the last time I heard a MSL club fold, where we all could name lots of AUL clubs who have sadly gone that way. In a nutshell there looking for clubs who are serious about improving,on an off the pitch.
Regards to kilreen they were senior the year before the only reason they played junior last year was because of a falling out with management and committee

What two is going up this year to premier and what two going down
Re: MSL Criteria, just going on our dealings with the MSL last year. The main things where Facilities ( good pitch, dressing rooms with showers and also a dressing room for referees) facilities being owned or having a long term lease on your grounds. Enclosed pitch was also spoke about but that was really based for out of town FAI Intermediate games!. The structure of the club also, if there is schoolboys and youth teams coming through in the club. That was really bout it lads.
Don't crofton Celtic have just the one team?
I would say the criteria isn't set in stone either
Happened to be involved in a conversation last weekend about the state of football on the northside of our city. Before I go on this is not having a go of anyone or any club. It's simply calling it as it is. In the Premier League we have only 2 teams from the Northside in Blarney Street and Castleview. Both these teams have been very disappointing this season and are now involved in a relegation battle with Castleview almost certainly gone. In Premier A we have 5 teams with Glen Celtic A the only team challenging for the league. Grattan, Blackstone, Bohs and Leeds are all at the wrong end of the table. So out of the top 2 leagues in AUL football there are 7 teams with only 1 challenging.
In the MSL it's the same. In the premier we have Rockmount, St Mary's and Mayfield. Rockmount were challenging some bit but are probably gone now and both St Mary's and Mayfield are in a relegation battle too. In MSL 1st div Leeds are up there challenging but again Castleview are at the wrong end of the table. So from the top MSL leagues we have 5 teams with only 1 challenging for the league.
Is there a reason for this or is it normal. With so many teams involved surely they should be more challenging. Any one else got an opinion on it. This is not a Northside/Southside thing. When discussing this we only looked at Northside teams. I have no idea if its better or worse on the the other side of the river
ya to be fair it is only going on the facts and the tables this season. I know teams and clubs will come and go in phases, just thought it was a bit worrying that there is no Northside team challenging on the Premier and only 1 out of 5 in the Premier A. Not really bothered about MSL to be honest
Of the teams ou mentioned in aul from northside how many of them have a youth system ? I don't know myself . You need players coming through every year be it only 1 or 2 or things get stale . Not a pop off any club in prem but I could nearly name and pick must clubs starting 11 as teams haven't changed much in last few years bar Coachford this year and the clubs that went up this year. Squads need to be freshened up players looking over there shoulders etc and so forth not a pop but just something I have noticed over the years
IMO this tends to go in cycles and it depends when you look at the tables. For instance last year I'm nearly sure that the top 4 in the MSL Premier was Avondale, Rockmount, Mayfield & Marys!! Big turn around this year. Also last year Blarney St were doing quite well in the AUL Prem and probably finished in the TOP 4. I do think there are probably too many teams in the Northside at AUL level and they probably take from each other. Not the same competition for the likes of Coachford, Park, Kilumney. In terms of existing solid underage structure on the Northside I can think of Rockmount, Castleview, Marys, Temple, Leeds & Mayfield (sorry if I've left someone out) who are all MSL. I don't think any of the AUL sides mentioned has an underage set up, again I'm open to correction...
Northside teams will always struggle and continue to struggle purely over the number of teams off the top of my head Bohs, Blarney Street, castleview both teams, rockmount both teams Mary's both teams mayfields both teams, blackstone, fairview, Leeds both teams, the glen both teams, village, dillons cross, grattan, Knocknaheeny Celtic, Glenvale, Shandon, cathedral Celtic, central rovers, Blackpool Celtic, that's almost 30 teams off the top of my head I'm nearly certain there is more, and that's all prob within 5-6 miles on each other even less, then take into consideration the GAA clubs up here aswell, and players that travel outside the local clubs to play With Killumney or Coachford, if the best was picked from all them things and its been widely predicted for a while a manger is gonna try and do that then I'd he does it and I mean IF!! there will be one very very very good team up the northside next year and who knows what they will achieve
Oldlegs hows yer pitch looking think our game will go ahead?
Any news on condition of pitches for the weekend any games called off especially in prem and prem a
its only 1 season after the last 3 going over to msl and next year might tell alot but on northside teams new seasons new teams and most wont have youths but my self and the people at the street will build a team and a squad with a long term view to things we will do it the right way but the players must come 1st and if you play the right way and are challanging for cups and leagues then things fall into place .
lads there a Monsoon of rain due 2morrow we will know more then about games id say you would never think it with the day were having 2day
So what's the best game to go tomorrow lads
Didnt Littleman say last year, 22 junior sides from Apple to Mayfield? Its funny how on the Southside, you seem to be one or the other - Everton or Greenwood for example!! Though Kilreen and Casement swapped chunks of players. Is it possible to have a strong Kilreen and a strong Casement? I dunno where Perse fit in - probably more Everton connections.
It may come down to forcing teams to merge because no guy wants to be the guy who turned out the lights on 20/30 or evn 40 years of a club...and rightly so.
Underage is the way to go, but starting at Under 5, not U18. ballyvolane brought in a Youths side but were gone 3 years later.
Monsoon from 8am for two days.................but the lady on RTE said it was positive cos its gonna be warm rain!!
Building for the future 1for? The main problem I see with this is most seasons players swap clubs wholesale up the northside. Not just in the AUL but MSL also. No loyalty there.
Ya that's what I'm saying. It's impossible to build for the future without a strong underage section. That way it may be possible to get some loyalty outta players. Blarney St will no doubt pull aload of players in next season but for how long? When I played you bust your gut to get into a team. Now however players just change clubs.
Ya but its the clubs that suffer. No manager or player is bigger than any club. It's no wonder clubs are folding
loyaltys in football and success dont mix im not one for puting a guy in the team just because he,s there every week pays script every week and cant kick a ball you know the type.dont get me wrong fellas must pay but some guys with 2 left legs think because they have ther in.
That's harsh 1for I always pay my script and only have a left leg. Up in Douglas 4 1 to kilreenat halftime
Kilreen up 4 1 KillerB
Make it 5 1
That's a shock old legs. I know Kilreen are a quality outfit but Douglas Hall very solid at home. They seem to be slipping of late though. Alot of rain due tomorrow. Hopefully wont come til the afternoon so we get a few games on
I know what you're saying 1f but personally if a player was that bad I wouldn't sign him or take his insurance or script. Wouldn't be fair on him. But I disagree on loyalty. No club can survive without good clubmen and committees. Just an example off the top of my head. Grattan looked like they were in serious trouble. Most clubs would have folded in their situation, losing so many players etc, but I know they have some very loyal men behind them. That and players staying loyal to their club help build success. It's very easy to get 11-16 great players in for a year or so and win trophies but what happens when these players, who have no loyalty for the club, decide to go elsewhere???
imo thats not harsh at all no point in making a fool of a lad either and i agre no one man bigger than the club he is with .i know a player who would walk in to any team in cork is first up with script..lines the pitch and hangs nets thats the kind of lad you want in your club no premadonna ther.
My point exactly redandwhite. No player or manager is bigger than any club!! Hopefully we can get back to those days. It's a pity that clubs try to chase the "quick fix" method for a season and then fall apart when someone who brings in 4/5/6 players gets a better offer and all head for pastures new! That's why I said as far as I'm concerned "loyalty" is a big thing! I do believe that it's time both the Cork AUL and MSL merge and create a real force here. There is certainly the talent from what I've seen the past few seasons. Like my name says its "just my opinion"!
That's very harsh RedandWhite from what I've seen of Blarney Street since his taken them over they are playing better nice movement and faster pace they are short a few players but with a few signings he will have a fine team. Bit mean to speak of ego's etc etc genuine football man in my view yes of course his going to look after his own interest's isn't that what we'd all do. You think that no other manager that has left a club and went to another doesn't bring in some of his own players . I say all the best to Blarney and 1for be great for the game if he can put the squad he wants together .
grattan is a club i watched a lot bud in fact im related to the pop and my dad was a founding member .and just to let people know this and my last job is not a 1 man show i draw on people when i manage so not much of an ego to satisfy .but i do want and like a nice footballing team that will be respected and contend.
