A roof on that stand would be truly fantastic.

A roof on that stand would be truly fantastic.
So what exactly was the difference between this new version and the one they had built previously, but were unable to use.
This one looks almost a replica, also was it used last Thurs night>?
I wish we could install something similar on the town end of Oriel Park, looks good I have to say, closes the ground in nicely.
Stand from Thursday night.

European game V IBV two seasons ago, fella went right through the stands, lucky he was not seriously injured - I am guessing they had to strengthen it, and he wasnt even a fat bast**d. Must be a real fan as he could have sued for a nice sum:p

Unless its a concrete structure Pats will be always throwing good money after bad on that stand. The cost of putting it up and repair works can't be to far of the price if they done it right in the first place.
How much has been spent on it in total? From foundations to the current repairs?
Not sure in total. Some of it was grant aided. This current model cost 60k (patrons funded)
They couldn't put in a 'new' concrete structure as there would have been planning problems (ie a new application) and potentially problems with the previous grant (according to the club).
I thought the original structure cost around 150k? Maybe I'm wrong but the foundations were probably the most expensive part. It was around 2007 so would have been in the peek of the building boom. Then with repairs on top of that.
Almost sure the Railway End in the Showgrounds cost around 200-250k. So it's not a massive difference over all.
Sorry, I thought you meant this time. It should've been done probably the first time.
But now, with the possibility of returning grant fees included, it was too expensive to put in a concrete structure.
Any update on Limericks plans for the markets field.
Been all very quite on this for the last 6 months
According to LMFM, Drogheda United are set to announce a new 3,500 all seated stadium on a new site today.
What on earth is going on with that club. On Sunday their players put in a solid performance, Monday evening the manager is effectively sacked, or as close to, on the week of a Cup QF, and a League Cup Final not far away, then on Tues am a new stadium announced.
Busy few days.
Markets Field....work started last week :)
I passed today and seen a couple of trucks and diggers, a load of sand Laid and looks like the ground is slightly ,cleared up I took a few pictures but don't know how to put them up on line
Ah BB, come on get the photos uploaded, would be very interesting to see. Have you any relations under 20? They'll sort it for you in 2 mins.
Must say I'd love to go to a game in the MF, heard loads about it from the 80's during Eoin Hand's era and their championship winning side of 1980. Huge crowds used to flock, its right in the city centre right ?
He took them with one of these

Looks just like a Pats fan's description of Oriel Park:p That pile of rubble is the away section right?

Another picture one of the lads took today.
Looks like more than just the pitch being worked on.
Pics also on the LEDP website

Sorry Oriel. Unfortunately my laptop isn't working so can't upload from this phone, more or less like the pic's on LEDP website.
I got invited to go up to Markets Field and have a look around by one of the people involved. If I take more pic's I'll get someone to stick them up.

In today's local about the markets field. Seems all the old structures can be worked on (dressing rooms, pitch, stand) but planning permission for everything else still yet to go through.
Is Markets Field a big site Jofspring. Usually the pitch is laid last so the open area can be used for storage and and as a work area during construction.
I've actually never been inside myself and only seen in from the outside but going by how much of an area it covers in garryowen and the pictures the area inside is fairly big. The grass part would have been big and then you had the greyhound track around it between the pitch and stand. Take out the track and move the pitch closer to the stand and you would have a nice area on the opposite side.
If the pitch, dressing rooms and one seated stand is ready and plannig permission is granted for the rest of the ground then I presume it would be enough for a license next season.
they can start using markets field for training/underage games/Munster Senior cup until its ready for first team. Pitch should be ready by next summer? wont be ready for first team games for 2-3 years? or they could do a finn harps Shamrock Rovers and have it ready in 15 years ;-)
Brings back memories of a cup tie, a bus trip, and a load of pints in some place in the midlands and of course pool balls!!!
Any updated pictures from Markets field?

Sorry Limerick fans, I couldn't resist ;)
Still a better pitch than Oriel.
(This had to be done. You all know this to be the case.)
Are Dundalk going back to a grass pitch next season?
