Derek Glynn is a serious talent. I saw him absolutely terrorise teams in the Mayo League with his pace and boy can he finish. He's sure to make a big impression in Galway. Best of Luck DG.

Interesting to note that there are scarecrows on the pitch in Milebush. :D Apparently all the worms are eaten by the crows on the pitch!!
I thought they said on the report he is 24?
Firstly to compare Westport and Ballyheane is like comparing Chelsea to Bolton. The resources available to Westport a predominantly soccer town is immense compared to a village with a church and a pub. We have been able to compete year in year out against the bigger clubs and mid table is a very acceptable and realistic target for us. Secondly if you have issues with certain posters please dont drag the clubs into it.
Well said. If you look at the development that the BH club has undertaken over the last number of years and compare it to Westports developemnts (lack of) no contest. What this club has acheived off the pitch is a credit to all involved and with their youths coming through they should be applauded and are a credit to Mayo football
Have to agree with the lads about the developement in Ballyheane and the lack of from what I can see with Westport United.
Westport United from what I can see ( I am sure TB will correct me ;) ) have really not improved the facility over the last 10 years from when I was there, yes the point has got improved spot lights but the main pitch and facilities have not moved at all, is there even an astro turf pitch available in Westport.
I know of course that Westport co-own the main pitch and facilities with Westport AC but when you look at Ballyheane and their asto turf facility and training and main pitch for what really is a village, then they have to be applauded for keeping with and even passing out the likes of Westport United who are X times bigger with potentially larger sponsorships available.
I suppose though you could say the same maybe about Ballina Town, I do believe they don't have an astro turf facility?
Some words on the difference between the two clubs and setups - 'Ex. President of FAI' and 'backhander / legup'
To answer all the posters above -
1) There is no negativity just a short fuse for imbeciles and the muck they post up here - engage brain before using keyboard
2) I was Comparing Westport and Ballyheane in styles of football / success only - learn to read lads or go back to kindergarden and figure it out.
3) Seeing as you are all such geniuses and are so willing to jump the fence for aggro - Try finding a Green field site in the most expensive town in Mayo land wise - be my guest
4) BH catchment area stretches further than the parish boundary (as it does for all clubs in this league) so stating they have limited pools of talent is a nonsensical argument - we can all do the same
5) With all these great facilities isn't it about time these teams learned that football is a passing game played on the ground - who would have thought - rather than sticking to the mid table disease of the half soccer / half GAA hybrid (let's bate them lads, pull hard!) game we see too often
Apologies if I just started another host of angry replies!
The argument about it being one of the smallest catchment areas in Mayo is just one. If my memory serves me right the smallest catchment area in the county has managed over the past few years to stretch to Galway, Charlestown, Crossmolina (don't bother saying the blonde lives in Snugboro), and all parts of Castlebar. And before some BH apologist or other makes the counter argument that Westport also has been known to attract players from outside, well we'v never said we've the smallest catchement area around.
And in relation to the facilities issue I just wish some people would keep their uninformed opinions to themselves. Gnasher is right, it's not our fault we live in the part of Mayo where it is most expensive to buy land. I know for a fact that the club has recognised the need for more facilities and it is actively doing something about it. But it's not as easy as it is in rural parts of the county, I'd ask anyone who thinks it is to try for themselves. And by the way, the pitches in Ballhyeane are not exactly billiard table like and what's the big deal with astro turf pitches anyway; they're alright for a kickabout after work but for serious footballers? You've got to be joking.
The problem is called Leather Jackets which are a small fly that are layed in the ground. The crows come along to eat them, but they leave holes in the pitch.
Which is not very nice. Pitch has to be sprayed to remove the leather Jackets.
Hopefully in the next week or so the L.J. will have died, and that will help to keep away the Crows.
No I am not on the wrong Planet. but it just goes to show, how much you do Know.
Its my opinion he is beyond devlopment years. He should have been spoted when he was at devlopment stage, which of course is between the age of 12-13 years old.that is why we have youth competition, called the Kenedy Cup.So That clubs from in England and Ireland and look at our best talent. Its very unusal for players of his age to make it late.Any player that ever did would have played at a higher level.
How ever I do think he would have made a differants in the supper league with Claremorriss. However I think he has sign there place back to the premier Div.
However its nice to think you are smarter than me!!!
I think this has got out of hand first of all Ballyheane got no Hand outs.Anything Ballyheane got was though hard work. No they are not the perfect model, but they are a small hard working group.and with out them for what they have achieve would be well missed by those who asked to use there grounds when there ground was unable to be used.
Of course Westport have there own internal Problems, but lets not make excuses for not having your own ground. You are long enough in football to have had your own ground. But what it take's is a leaf out of the Ballyheane Book. Or any club who has achieved there objectives.

Rumour has it that Celtic are off to the High court next week charged with false advertisement  . Posters for their game Vs Finn harps at the weekend read " Eircom League Friendly". When the punters turned up they where not impressed to see that only one Eircom League team Had shown up :D
Big difference between Premier league in Mayo & the Eircom!!
What was the Cbar Celtic V Harps game like? Any good?
As a final word Don I was comparing the styles of both teams - nothing else -if you think I make no sense then don't bother crawling out from under the rock to reply. We have no superiority complex about how the game is played over here - I just think that if you have good facilities the way the game is being played should be improving and the long ball / hacker stuff should be on the way out.
If I'm way off the mark at least you can call me consistent.
Ashtray on a motorbike? Hope you were'nt up all night thinking of that one...ancient.
Pixiehead, I tried to start a Galway League forum last year as a fool called 'gazza2' had me annoyed to the hilt with posting galway stuff on the wrong forum and being a pest in general. It never took off. Would you think it's time for one or does a secret one exist somewhere else we don't know about so we can't 'peer over the fence' at ye like you do?
No Galway League Forum exists as does no Sligo one. Forums only exist for the Eircom league users. Its lack of junior league users that they dont exist. As for peering over the fence i have a Galway United avitar because im a die hard Fan but im based in Mayo so im Not exactly being a nosey so and so  And if your from Westport why are you interested in the Galway League
In the words of Laurel or was that Hardy 'Another fine mess you got me into'. Accepting the Chairmanship at the Blue Bombers was always going to see me get landed with days like this. I dont mind just I would sooner be elsewhere.
Anyone else on here attending this at Milebush on Saturday.
Not really - just wondering - I would have thought that Connacht leagues with big name teams like Abbey and Mervue would have their own discussion threads. Never implied you were nosey - the site is free to use by all. I think all Mayo Junior League Club fans would be interested in haveing a Galway junior League thread - would help with info sharing and the like - ya know?
yeah i played against glynn last year and when hes playing well hes on fire but if things arent going too well for him then he simply doesnt want to know.in the two games he played against us last year he was brilliant in one and desperate in the other, although our centre half did have a great game that day also.i'd really like to see him doing well for galway but think i'll have to agree with renovator in saying that i think it could be too late for him.and i dont think that hes quite up to standard to play eircom league football unfortunately.:(
