Ah here this forum has gone mad,the John Delaney Cup (A PRE SEASON tournament) has just been labelled as important as the Tipperary Cup,thats the exact same as saying the Emirates Cup (a pre season tournament) is as important to Arsenal etc as winning the FA Cup (a domestic cup) Rightboy you are on fire lately
I might be wrong but I don't think the Delaney cup is pre season it's an official recognised comp by the tsdl as I said I might be wrong on this no nonsense you might be able to clarify the status of it
As for it's benefit a winning habit is a good thing you can get badly beaten in a challenge game as u know saints/ town did not play full teams in it last few years but blooded players as they do in tipp cup anyway as we know no top junior team shows their hand in aug/ sept , I suppose each club is different on the way they view this
its an optional competition, that says enough
Yes optional no dispute there but also a recognised comp as per the tsdl website roll of honours list . As I said it's still really in it's infancy but a good concept
well footballfanatic your hardly coming up with choice conversation yourself are you? i hear town are entering a tournament in waterford, anyone know the teams involved?
with talks on this site of half of towns team being from north tipp in nenagh and thurles surely logistically delaney cup would suit them better than travelling down to waterford for a tournament
well i believe that these two guys are totally dedicated to football and partake in no other sports and really wanted a challenge to play with one of the top junior clubs in ireland, cant blame them for that, as you said both nenagh sides are good but maybe that isnt enough for them
The only player they have lost from the starting 11 vs Michaels is Evan Mcguire but hes in a bit of bother as he signed and is registered with Town and he signed for celtic aswel....and in fairness smurf and stephen ryan couldnt make the team so i wouldnt count them as major losses....The 2 guys from nenagh are getin on very well their attitude is excellent and will be great additions this season i have to be honest i think Town could be very strong this year and with it been Jamies 2nd year in charge i think he will have learned a lot from last year and hel be a stronger manager this year...It will be interesting league this year,i see the wilderness signed a few of the clonmel celtic youths have to say tho i seen them play last week and they looked very weak it could be a struggle for them this year.
I'm surprised town let Evan go cause he was one of their better youth players over the last few years , was there a falling out or something cause I tell you I was really impressed with him against saints last year in Cooke pk where he had little or no support from his striking partner when town dropped right back in the game he really led the line well his a loss to them no doubt
Chops are you sure about Thurles lads staying as ted o Connors dad had been appt no 2 at peake villa or is this only one of these rumours going about
there was a big split in our club this year and it didnt look like we were going to have an A-Team, the two boys have no interest in playing for nenagh town so as they see clonmel as a great club and a chace of winning a big cup it was the obvious choice, like bilko said both are soccer only and have a brilliant attitude towards training and will be a good adition to clonmel and we wish them the best of luck.
spoke to a lad out in a pub in clonmel tonight and he told me that things are buzzing at Clonmel Town, he is delighted with pre-season, one of the best preps in years and the new additions are impressive, this guy has been round the block for years and is very hopeful for the coming season, as he put it, quoted as sayin, Town have got rid of the "me feiners" and cant wait for the season to start
Sgt bilko I agree with u in terms of Stephen ryan but the likes of barnsey, smurf and Evan who all would be on starting 11 losing these quality players it must be a worry for whatever reason they left , I know town are bringing in 6/7 new players but it will take time for them to settle / bed in as a team from my point of few it's certainly a gamble for town and I said earlier with teds dad back at peake who knows how that situation may pan out maybe it's what town needed a clear out what your thought s on this sgt bilko / lads
I understand some of your points about players gelling together but personally having seen these new lads training its like as if they have been with Town for years as i said the Nenagh Celtic lads have an exceptional attitude towards training they are first there every night credit must be givin to them for what they are doing remember these guys looked to play for Town...Evan Mcguire is leaving on his own accord but my bet would be hes facing into a hefty ban as hes registered with Town but then signed for celtic...and smurf couldnt make the first 11 but i do agree he is a good player they also have Ronan Stanley back who is a very good player...Barnes left for reasons last year nothing they can do about it plus they won the league without these players last year as Sgt Bilko said there is a great buzz in the club this year hopefully things will work out
Also Ted is going nowhere hes happy at Town hes really going to be at his best this year his fitness levels already is amazing
well my understanding was steven ryan and darren burns left because they were dropped and were not first choice, dunno the situation about maguire but he surely will be a loss, barnes left as well and they still had enough to beat st michaels who were the best team in the country last year on their own patch
In pretty good shape,Brian Murray from the Tipp footballers is doing the physical training and the lads are delighted with it and numbers are up at training,i suppose signings wil be the key so still a little in the dark in that regard but definitely all positive at the moment
thats good to hear, be great to have peake back up challenging this season. post up the result of there pre season game with pike tomorow megatots if you get a chance.
with celtic and town strenghtening next season has makings of a great league. Still no word from saintscamp of signings. surely theres a few in the pipeline. rumours doing the rounds that ray mc,shane guerin, foggy and danny o brien may be gone from last years squad so you can be sure they have a few replacements lined up
It is a pre season tournament, not part of the official season. I'm told it will be shorter this season. Last year games to the final were played home and away. This season it will be one game in each round, either home or away. So four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final, total seven games.
why on earth would you go and play the fai champions in a pre-season challenge when your tryin to sign players and keep them interested and hopeful for the coming season, does not make sense
does any one know if Mullinahone have a team this year?
any pre season results ???
cahir park beat park united from mitchelstown 2-1 last weekend. I think cahir had much the same players as last season so no new signings in yet. Tipp town Fc have played 5 friendlies in last 2 weeks and won them all easily. Rumour has it there working of a panel of over 30 players.
Tipp town FC beat Glen Villa 5-2 last night in the Dave Dineen tournament in Galbally. Galbally and St. Nicholas are in the other semi tonight.
Any club that has a panel of over 20 players is looking for trouble down the line and any player that see's 15 lads in front of him each week will not stay around for long if he is serious about playing each week!
St. Nicks beat Galbally 5-0 in the other semi of the Dave Dineen tournament last night. They are playing Tipp Town on Friday night i think in the final.
John delaney cup -clonmel celtic v nenagh afc and the wilderness play nenagh celtic.unsure of the rest of draw.
Borris beat durrow 4 or 5 nil tonight, interesting to see donal duggan in the middle of the park for borris, very good player, other new signings include michael rafter and some harkins? Not sure who he is, looked impressive though.
Ya, i was at the match last night, was very very impressed with the performance considering there has been very few training sessions and i wouldnt say any of them will be fully fit for another few weeks. Rafter looks the real deal and will be good. Hopefully donal duggan will sign, savage player. Gerry treacy in the goal looks like a great signin aswell.
I heard cahir have pulled out of there b team, was shocked to here that as that team were always winnin the past few seasons.
Yeah first round is fixed for Sunday the 7th, but if its like last year, then teams will be able to pick a date that suits both of them.
