I don't think we should lower our great league to playing those peasants in Scotland

I actually mentioned the idea to some Hibs supporters I knew in Edinburgh, and they all thought it was a great idea (or were being very enthusiastically polite!). They were all fed up with endless trips to either greater Glasgow or Dundee, and would have loved the opportunity to play against different opposition in different cities. Of course, the Old Firm are probably a different proposition, with regular and sustained European football.
A Celtic Cup would actually possibly be something that would work. The League Cup in all countries is seen as a 'diddy' cup, so could be on to something there. Maybe need to lobby the FAI to propose something to the SFA. Think as well with gates being split 60/40 if you could an away tie against Celtic or Rangers what that extra would be for a LOI team. Although I really think the prospect of Rangers fans in Dublin etc would make it a no-go.
A swiss member of a Celtic forum I'm on posted this, it's a quote from Sion's lawyer.
Quote:
Responding to Swiss media reports of Platini and Blatter's comments, and rumours that UEFA officials have told Celtic they can plan for the group stages, Alexandre Zen-Ruffinen has said "This stinks to high heaven. I'm preparing our response to Celtic's protest, but is seems I can save myself the effort. The verdict has been decided before the Uefa Disciplinary Committee meeting
Celtic reinstated in Europa League as UEFA rule against Sion
http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottis...-against-sion/
FAO of all those who laughed and mocked, justice has been done!!!!!!
Ugh.... Fair result but annoying nonetheless.
It helping our ranking and is a few million in the bank, I'm happy. One of their players they knew they weren't to play scored the two goals that knocked us out so i don't feel for Sion. They cheated and they knew it. We wouldn't have had such a hard group if we had been in the pot so we're screwed there but I'll enjoy the big European nights against Madrid and Udinese :)
still didn't do enough on the field to get into teh next round
how much of a coincidence is it that both your teams could be beaten in cup competitions by "inferior" sides but get reinstated over player registration issues in the same week
Well done to Celtic for getting in by default. Maybe next year they can get in on the pitch and without any help from UEFA.
Sion are prepared to take their appeal all the way it seems, even tying it up in court so the start of the competition gets postponed. No sympathy for them - a cowboy club run by a loon.
At least Shamrock Rovers won their right on the field of play. I knew from what I was reading Sion would be kicked out.
Does anyone not think that UEFA could be the problem here, as they receive the squad list for each team and it should be up to them to tell each team which players are eligible or not, If UEFA did not notify Sion that there were ineligible players involved, then I think Sion have a case cause UEFA registered the players and did not inform Sion of any errors. But if Sion played players that were not registered with UEFA from the squad list, well, they deserve not to be in the competition.
UEFA and FIFA did inform Sion that if they fielded ineligible players they would be disqualified. They just ignored the advice. Not sure why it took so long to rule though.
This is becoming a , my dad could beat up your dad argument
Before this starts to get ridiculous I'd just like to cut out several levels of feisty bragadoccio and let you know that my da is Godzilla, no, no I mean that thing out of Cloverfield yeah thats it my da is a fearsome thing from outer space who could whip everyone on here's das. So there.
It's great Rovers earned their way on the field of play. None of this waiting for two days before the game to know if a club is involved or not.
Wow I wanna be like Rovers. A team with no internationals, a crappy two-ended stadium and a nothing club in world football.
To compare the Irish league is a joke. The stadiums are far superior, it's a full-time professional league and the Scottish league has a history of making progress in European competitions. 1967, 1970, 1972, 1983, 1987, 2003 and 2008, Scottish clubs all made major European finals and four clubs did this. Close the thread!
HAH...HAHAH....HAHAHAHAH
Least Rovers made it into the Europa League on the pitch. I don't know how many times it has to be said. Rovers beat a far superior team in Partizan than Celtic lost to Sion.
Get it in your head boyo, the SPL may be better supported, there may be better infrastructure, there may be more money, but there is nothing, and I repeat NOTHING to back up the point they have a better standard of football.
Give your Celtic show a rest. In their history they made finals, in history they had quality teams and quality players. Thats the past. You simply cannot take the fact your home nation is bypassing your other 'home' nation in league football. This amuses me.
The new found arrogance of LOI fans amuses me. I want to see it do well, but I snigger at the new arrogance:D Are you actually comparing the Celtic team to Shamrock bleeding Rovers and their squad of rejects, especially Gary Twigg, the second tier of Scottish football reject! Oh please stop, pppllleeeaasseee you're killing me herehttp://www.thehuddle.co.uk/hb/images/smilies/loel.gif
Many teams have few years or bad days, but class and prestige is permanant. But carry on, you're getting me through my Friday at work!
And TA you were doing oh so well for the last couple of weeks. And then you go and spoil it all.
Also accusing a Harps fan as being arrogant is pathetic.
You have that crappy Robbie Williams, NIcole Kidman duet stuck in my head now! Not actually kidding :(
I was being serious, I don't get the arrogance towards Scotland now, it's laughable. I want the league to do well, but don't be getting ahead of your station folks, there's a long way to go and with the crap support the league gets from the public I suspect we have reached our peak :(
BTW, you must not post on Shelsweb cause they all fecking hate the Ireland team there and don't support other LOI teams in Europe! Fair play you're different mind you.
It's just a reaction to finally having something to throw back at all the Celtic-supporting Irish people who've never taken an interest in their own league. The excuse that they don't follow LOI because the standard isn't high enough is on shakier ground than ever. Celtic are obviously better than Rovers and have a higher standard of player in general, but they've still been comprehensively beaten two years in a row by teams that on paper they'd be considered superior to.
Bonnieshels, how dare you have your own opinion! That's just the dangerous kind of nonsense we've come to expect from from the likes of you with your ... your ... your rational, coherent posts! Down with 'em, I say!
The herd is coming, and it's calling your name: Baa-aaa-nieshels. You have been warned!:D
Arrogant LOI fans.:D Priceless!
