Just want to say here lads, mypost is totally entitled to post this .... its not breaking any rules for a start, also it is a discussion forum .... discussion is always going to be welcome to be fair. And to reply, you are totally entitled to disagree with his opinion, but stay within the rules.

If people were 'upset' by what they are reading then in my opinion they should either criticise his opinion (as some people have tried) or compile their own review and post it in this thread to give contrast and address the balance as it were.

Week 5 of the league saw normal service resumed, with all games played as planned. It saw Shels finally click into gear, Drogheda open up daylight at the top, and the beginning of a Saturday afternoon kick off experiment at UCD. 11 goals were scored, from 3 home wins, 2 away wins, and a scoreless draw.
Cork may be second, but have only had a modest start to the league season, despite wiping the floor with their opponents in the Setanta Cup. Longford got a 0-0 draw at Cork last season, and with another 3 draws under their belt this season so far, were confident of taking another one. However, Cork doubled their goal tally this season, by the hour mark this time, with 2 goals from John O' Flynn. But instead of the floodgates opening at 2-0, Longford didn't give up without a fight. They scored with a quarter of an hour to go through Kevin Doherty, and had chances to equalise. It wasn't enough though as Cork made heavy weather of maintaining their 100% record at home, and stay second in the table.
2 weeks ago, Bohs dominated at Cork, and they did so again at the other end of the country at Derry. The home side may have exited the Setanta Cup in midweek, but against the run of play, took the lead through Stephen O' Flynn on the hour, and held on to it to the end. Bohs still struggle, and go home to face their first Dublin derby of the season on Good Friday, against Pats.
The derby of last year's promoted clubs was in deserted Dalymount. As is generally the case in NL football, Home Farm games are not easy on the eye, and this game never promised to be a classic either. It duly lived up to it's billing, and finished 0-0.
The battle of the unbeaten clubs took place at Richmond, with Pats looking for revenge for their home defeat to Drogheda in the rain last June. This time, hail showers descended on Inchicore, and the travelling support hailed the winner from Paul Keegan with 3 minutes to go, getting Drogheda's 4th 1-0 win this season. They remain top of the league, and play Cork in the Setanta Cup Final, after winning their semi-final,
1-0 of course!!
UCD's Saturday afternoon kick-offs were introduced, for their "Dort Derby" with Bray. Like most Derbies, the game started slowly, until Bray fell asleep and conceded 3 goals in 5 minutes before the break, as Paul Byrne and Conor Sammon were allowed to help themselves. The pair of them put UCD 4-0 up, before Conor Tresson pulled back a consolation. 5 goals in the meeting at Belfield again, but UCD win comprehensively this time.
Shels finally realised that, even with a game in hand, they needed to start winning to catch up with their rivals, as only one point separated these two before the game. Shels won through Jason Byrne's free-kick on 40', to move them to within 7 points of Drogheda. They may have stayed up last season, but Waterford, whose last win was last November under Pat Dolan's watchful eye, remain where they were pre-Dolan; winless, rudderless, and cast adrift at the bottom.

Week 6 was not one for strikers. Cagey defences joined most of the country in shutting up shop on Good Friday as the whopping total of 2 goals were scored from 4 games. 5 more went in, in the games played on the rest of the weekend, with 4 of them in Sligo, but then again, you must remember that they were up against hapless Waterford. The stats show 2 wins each way this week, and Drogheda extending their lead at the top, with yet another 1-0 win.
Bohs and Pats took the glamour billing this week, in the Dublin derby. That's where the glamour ended though, as the holiday crowd were sent to sleep in a dour 0-0 draw, briefly awoken in the 80th minute by Jason McGuinness's contender for Foul of the Season, a wild lunge on Paul Keegan bringing a straight red card. Bohs collect another point, while Pats collect their third successive draw at Dalymount.
After celebrating their passage through to the Setanta Cup final, Cork made the long journey to their second nearest team, Bray. While Cork's strikers had a night off, their stand-in keeper McNulty kept them in the game, and his saves ensured a somewhat fortunate point for the visitors, who continue to splutter in second gear in the league so far.
Home of the 1-0 win, league leaders Drogheda continue to go about their league business quietly and effectively. They extended their lead at the top with their routine 1-0 win, got, as UCD were sleeping off the effects of their half time break, Stephen Bradley scoring on 46'. Drogheda's lead over Cork and Derry stands at 4 points, and will be protected as all 3 clubs have had their matches next week needlessly postponed, for the benefit of tv. :mad:
Home of the long-ball show, Longford faced Derry at the Flansiro. The ground may be named after the San Siro in Milan, but that's where the comparison ends, as unlike in Longford, the San Siro itself doesn't have vast sections of the ground sealed off to the fans!! Those that did come must have wondered why they bothered until the 71st minute, when Ciarán Martyn found the net from a McCourt free-kick. Derry move into second with a game in hand, while the second defeat for Longford this season sees them keeping tabs with Waterford at the bottom.
After losing the Setanta Cup semi at a packed Turners Cross, Shels drew the short straw this week, with a home tie in front of several thousand less people, against former tenants Home Farm. Gary O'Neill scored the winner in an uneventful encounter, as Shels finally begin to motor up the league. Franchise FC meanwhile, haven't won for 4 games. :)
Finn Harps' replacements in the division this season, Sligo, faced Waterford at the Showgrounds, where goals flowed:eek:...for at least 12 minutes, as the sides cancelled out each other's strikes through Paul Mc Tiernan, and Brendan Hughes, when the game settled down, and tedium returned. It wasn't until Matthew Judge scored on 65, before Sligo restored order. Respectability was put on the scoreline, when second-half sub Seán Flannery scored 10 minutes from time. Waterford may be on a 4-game losing streak, but in fairness, unlike in the rest of the league, there have been a fair few goals in their games this season. The bad news for their fans is, most of them have been going in at the wrong end!!
Good analysis but has our game not been postponed to allow us to once again win a cup final against the langers (assuming of course that Georgie and his band of merry men fail to turn up as we could not possibly win the Setanta cup on our own merit)Quote:

With 2 games blatantly postponed for tv :mad: , Week 7 saw the top 3 clubs' games wiped out, and no change at the top of the table. The 2 Dublin derbies saw 2-1 away wins, a sleeping pill in Waterford, and Pats claiming the only home win of the weekend, against the bottom side. 9 goals went in.
It was Bohs' turn to run into Home Farm this week, and Gerry Cuffe's turn to count his losses on the gate that playing them and not Rovers this week, cost him. Effectively a Bohs home game, they raced into a 2-goal lead in half an hour through Ward and Ferguson, against a starstruck defence. They meanwhile, raced into 2 red cards instead, one each awarded to Crowley and McDonnell. Despite pulling a goal back through Freeman, Bohs did enough to claim their second win of the season. Home Farm however, have shown their value in this year's league by winning just one match from 7, courtesy of their opponents charity, and lie 2 points from the bottom.
Pats took on Bray in the first game of the weekend, and the first to be played on a Wednesday this season. Not much happened until Paul Keegan opened the scoring on 46'. Bray fell further behind 5 minutes later through Trevor Molloy. If Bray do anything, it's usually through Zayed. Along came his chance to make his mark on the hour and he did so...by missing his side's penalty, and hitting the bar later. Pats wrapped up the points through Keegan again with 7 minutes remaining. Bray may have a game in hand, but last season's form is something they can't sustain. Having shipped 7 goals in successive away games, they slump to the bottom.
UCD played Shels in the Saturday afternoon Dublin derby at Belfield, where Gary O'Neill scored for the visitors on 70'. With the pressure off, Shels relaxed and were punished as a minute later, UCD equalised from Derek Doyle's header. Liam Kearney scored for Shels with 5 minutes to go to secure Shels' third win on the spin. UCD have claimed 4 points from 4 home games.
Two sides stuck in the bottom 4; one that can't play football, and the other who can't find form, looked like a 0-0 banker, and so it proved at Waterford. Neither side can buy a win, and those who didn't go to the game missed nothing. Waterford creep away from the bottom, and Longford creep up to 10th. For the rest of the series, nobody (bar this year's promoted clubs) needs a fixture list, as all games are simply the direct reverse of who played who in the corresponding weeks of last season. :(

In any event, they were given plenty of notice, and most employers don't have a problem with people cancelling holidays. The League Cup Final should be played on a weekend. Fans of clubs who wish to attend long-distance games on Friday nights, need to arrange work holidays well in advance, re-arrange shifts, make travel plans, and in some cases, book overnight accommodation. This takes time, and costs money. To postpone games for the sake of it, in this case for tv, when there are other perfectly acceptable alternatives available, shows a total disregard for the league, and it's fans. That game should have taken place on Easter Monday, which (to most people) is part of the weekend, there's no logical reason why it couldn't.Quote:
