Greed is good.
Exactly, Duff will be paying for the privilege and honour of doing his swansong in the green and white hooped jersey.
It's his ultimate dream, it was his raison d'etre all these years, Blackburn, Ireland, Chelsea, World cup star, just so he could end his playing days ..... around the corner from Tallaght shopping centre.
I just can't imagine how Duff must be feeling, as his day of days approaches. "Duff comes home".
In all fairness, to a man whose been earning millions of pounds, euros, dollars and all the rest for the past 15/20 years, the difference between earning 1,000 a week and 2,000 a week isn't going to make or break him.
He's stated already that money is no object to him and will make no difference in his decision.
Don't think he'll be getting anywhere near 2,500 a week in the League of Ireland unless some big business man is stumping up at least half of that.
I don't think it is all that unlikely Nidgey. I am completely speculating here but it is not hard to fathom that Fahey and McPhail and a few others in that squad are on a fair wedge - possibly not e2500 but in the 1k to 2k range...despite the fact that Charlie will probably pooh pooh that speculation without offering a more likely scenario in alternative.
It shouldn't really be incumbent on anyone to offer a more realistic guess than your guess. McPhail was back at Glebe and preparing for LSL when Nutsy called. Fahey's injury problems, after a poor season by his standards, won't have put him in a great negotiating position. The idea that either are on anything close to 100k a year is downright ridiculous.
Duff's in a different bracket, obviously, but as you'll have noticed the only thing I took issue with apart from the made-up figures (it's up to 3k now, should be pushing 5k by the time his signing is announced, if at all) was whether a big wedge could be clawed back by increased turnover, not whether it's possible someone would offer him that.
Is he joining Rovers or not?
As Brian Kerr said when Duff was on the verge of moving to Chelsea: "Sure what would Duffer do with 100 grand a week? You can only sleep on one mattress at a time"
...interesting. Thanks.
Confirmed to Shamrock Rovers on an 18 month deal:

dunne should do the honourable thing now and come back too...
it's a pity he isn't in for this week and back with mcphail and farhee for the odd game. although probably better if he was available for the even game when they need someone to hold up the ball and win frees.
Dunne there too would be amazing.
stutts you've loads of money make it happen.
I wouldn't be surprised if he hung up his boots this summer. He was asked if he'd come back to LOI about a year ago and he more or less said he wants to play close to the top level for the rest of his career and if he can't do that he'll retire. Which is fair enough.
Fair dues to the Duffer for displaying his talents in the League of Ireland.
Newcastle & Rovers. Damien Duff is Satan in my eyes.
Joking aside it's a good move for both parties and the league. It got us a bit of news outside Ireland and might help to raise the profile. I don't think Duff is doing this to just see out his days. I honestly think he is committed to this as much as he was when he played in England and Australia.
Plus it's nice that Shamrock Rovers are offering a nice little retirement home for ex-Ireland international!:p
I think Man City own the club he played for out in Australia.
Duff: Me was born to be Shammy Rover.
