Michael Johnston of Celtic was called up to the Scotland under 21 team today

Johnston is supposedly pretty highly rated -- apparently Chelsea have been following his progress. Irish Sun had a report of FAI approach in May: https://www.thesun.ie/sport/football...g-for-ireland/
Our hopes of persuading Ethan Ampadu to play for us seem to getting slimmer: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41042598
Wales seem to be a bit more pro-active in getting these young lads in the first team training squads or first team senior squads .
Not saying it would make any difference in this case but it would be a pity to lose a good young talent for the lack of a bit of nurturing.....
We need and have always needed to get as much talent from as far and wide as we can .
They do still need to want to play for us mind .
one day later... Will Keane targets World Cup spot with Ireland: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/w...land-slkc9w0gf
rest of the article is behind their paywallQuote:
Will Keane has spoken of his desire to play for Ireland at the World Cup next year. The former Manchester United striker is nearing a return for Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship after a long-term injury.
He told The Times: “They have some good strikers, but I was on their radar before the injury. I am an outside bet but if I can get back scoring goals I would like to think I have a chance.”
It would be slightly bizarre if former Ireland player Michael Keane lined out for England against former England player Will Keane for Ireland!
This is the rest of the Will Keane part of the article-
I'd feel better about him if he said this instead...Quote:
The twin brother of Michael Keane, the England defender, admits that the tournament in Russia has been a motivation. “It is every player’s dream to play in the World Cup. Ireland are doing well in their group so they might make it,” he said. “If I ended up playing in a World Cup, all this hard work would be worthwhile.”
“If I ended up playing for Ireland, all this hard work would be worthwhile.”
His scoring record is abysmal
Is Keane back from his long term injury?
Until he starts doing the business at club level, It might as well be Will Shatner declaring for us
Jordan Graham joins Fulham from Wolves on loan.
Derry Citys Rory Holden to make the move to Bristol City tonight. Called up to Norn Irons under-21 training squad earlier in the year but still potentially eligible either way.
Ben heneghan centre half signed for Sheff Utd from motherwell. Been very good seemingly at motherwell. Was at everTon then dropped into conference but has fought back. Played for England c while in conference. Think there was talk he was eligible for us when at everton
The apparent delay appears to have been related to either finding his birth certificate or getting it in order. He has had to do that before being able to apply for the passport. Not sure what the latest on it is, mind.
Video interview with Holden here on his move: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/rory-hol...rst-interview/

probably means nothing
Will Keane - four senior goals.
Scott Hogan - one goal in his last 17 league games.
Ross McCormack, who in my opinion is a better player than Scott Hogan at Championship level, has struggled with the step up to Intl football. Not to mention Jordan Rhodes and Chris Martin.
Before Hogan, there was unreasonable expectations placed on Arter. Three competitive games have completely passed him by. McGoldrick is even worse. Christie's performances are more committed but by god he's a limited footballer. O'Dowda can't get near a poor Bristol City team.
Expectations really need to be tempered but I fear for the likes of Declan Rice and Liam Kelly when certain quarters are already asserting that they are the bonafide heirs to Whelan and Hoolahan's positions.
Can't believe nobody is hailing Conor Ronan as the Messiah cause I'm pretty sure he is
Nigel likes to say "Scripture is a mirror and not a sword." When it comes to Conor Ronan. Incidentally my (real) name kind of rhymes with his.
Crosby sounds nothing like that.
Add conor Ronan and Manning to the list and the midfield is sorted
Greg Docherty - Hamilton

Nice finish from Tommy McNamara last night against Colorado
Goal on 0:41
What's the story with Chiedozie Ogbene? I'm guessing he'd have dual nationality.
Surely he'd be close to an U21 call-up given our lack of depth in attack.
Fair enough for the lad to prefer to play for Nigeria, at least he's being honest about it.
I wonder would he turn down an U21 call from us? The possibility of switching to Nigeria would still be there I'm assuming.
