Rate the last film you saw

Watched a few films that past couple of weeks.
Bridesmaids was very funny - some laugh out loud moments - but wouldn't watch it again. Wiig is a babe so maybe I'm biased.

The Assasination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. I wanted to like this film so much that I think it let me down a bit. Good but not great.

Xmen First Class - really enjoyable, easy way to while away a couple of hours. Would recommend.

Winter's Bone - Bleak, disturbing, excellent. Would recommend to anyone

Dazed and Confused - watched it again for the first time in at least 5 years. Contains one of my favourite lines:
"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."

two very watchable films with plenty of laughs, thought bridemaids was funnier and the scene were they try on the wedding dresses was brilliant , horrible bosses is worth the watch alone for jennifer anniston as the sex crazed dentist with shocking foul mouth .

This is Spinal Tap - 4/10, didn't think it was that funny, amusing at times
Major League - 6.5/10, was expecting more of a comedy movie than a sports movie (which it was), think that hurt its rating with me as it wasn't that bad
Trading Places - 7.5/10, had seen most of it in bits and pieces was pretty good seeing it all the way through

Saw the Ides of March on Tuesday. Janey it's a cracking flick. Clooney really does show just how talented he is in front of and behind the camera.

As for Philip Seymour-Hoffman... Jaysus he's great! And Paul Giamatti turns in a fine perfomance; I normally hate his presence in movies.

Definitely wortjhy of whatever awards that comes it's way.

Plus Evan Rachel Wood is stonking! NYIAOW!

On this note, I've heard tomorrow is Nigel Tufnel day. I was negative repped by a poster who shall remain anonymous for my rating of this film but I stick by it, the most entertaining thing about it was that Harry Shearer was wearing a Shrewsbury shirt which seemed ridiculous to me.

quite simply the finest actor of this generation in my opinion. Love his flicks though i have the misfortune of working alongside someone who resembles the character he played in The Talented Mr. Ripley. Brilliantly hideous!

Thought he was brilliant in Charlie Wilsons War and in Along Came Polly. Hilarious in his own way in both.


The Change Up: Not brilliant by any means but was a good movie to watch midweek to unwind and have a laugh. 6.5

True Grit: Very enjoyable. The little girl in it was very well acted. 7.5

Batman the dark night: watched it again recently. Love these Batman films but weirdly enough I don't like Christian Bale as Batman. His Batman voice can get annoying so it's a good thing he doesn't have to do much talking. 9.0

Due Date: Average enough, some good laughs in it but don't go expecting too much from it and it will probably be more enjoyable. 5.0

Mike Bassett, England Manager: Hilarious film, some classic scenes in it. 9.0

Tower Heist - a bit of a moralistic tale of how to get back at the "evil" (trade mark the meeja) financial people who lose all your money then swan off. Funny in parts, Some good acting, nice pace, Alan Alda is good - almost the perfect bad guy. Worth a look, at least it'll make you feel better about your overdraft. 5/10

The Rum Diary - can just be planted in any "ex-pat" community, Johnny Depp is good as always, but the movie just gets lost and apart from one or two good lines - "They raped him to death?" and telling him that smoking menthol fags is "artistic", it's just not as good as it's made out of be. It's not artistic, not good dialogue and Giovanni Ribisi is good but wasted. 2/10

Rocky II was on today so I watched part of that but I've seen them all (again) in the last year or so, so here are my ratings for all.

Rocky - 10/10. Honestly what faults are there?
Rocky II - 8/10. Solid, if not as noteworthy as the other early ones
Rocky III - 8.5/10. Change of pace sort of, very enjoyable
Rocky IV - 9.5/10. Excellent again, only the cringeworthy speech at the end (in my opinion) stopped it from being 10/10
Rocky V - 6.5/10. By far the weakest of the bunch but as far as films go there are certainly much much worse.
Rocky Balboa - 7.5/10. Thought it would be **** but ended up being quite enjoyable...good mix of old and new even if somewhat unbelievable.

Saw Toy Story 3 as well last week, I'd say 6/10. Saw the first two when they came out and was obviously much younger, but this one was relatively enjoyable even now.

Rocky IV always has to be considered because of the era it was set in. At that time you'd Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen fighting Cubans and Russkis in Red Dawn, Jim Belushi and Ahnold fighting Russian bad guys in Red Heat. But the pace and sentiment of Rocky IV, as well as the ott fight scenes and death of Apollo Creed, won a generation of fans. The one hypocritical thing was the Western/US snipe about drug use behind the old Iron Curtain - meanwhile Flo Jo and Carl Lewis were walking laboratories. Still, I'd go with the high rating for it.

Ended up watching The Other Guys again last night. I think this is Ferrell's best "proper" comedy since Anchorman.

Even on second viewing it still gave me all the same laughs as the first time.

Wahlberg is good in it as well. He's a great go to guy for playing an *******.

Definite worthy of checking out for those of you who haven't seen it.

I watched the Tree of Life the other night. Jaysus. That was a melter of a film. Two days later and I still don't know whether it was an excellent artistic film, or pure gash. I reckon another watching would get the noggin around it. It's set in the distant past with Pitt as the strict father, with flashforwards to modern day Sean Penn as his grown up son. There are interjections of life/planet evolving all through the film.

hard to give it a rating or describe it. I'd advise posters to watch it though.

Got to watch The Devils Double last night. It's based on the autobiography of Latif Yahia, who was the body double of the psychopath that was Saddams son, Uday Hussein. Entertaining to watch, even if there is some doubts of its authenticity. 8/10. It's all in english so don't worry. I'm a bit skeptical of what was stated in the end credits though.. :p

Saw Warrior last week. Enjoyable, wanted to see it purely to see was Hardy worth all the hype. He sure is big - Bane is going to be awesome! the best of the cast was Nick Nolte, he should get an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor, only there's a creeping suspicion from this mugshot

on Friday night watched Manchurian Candidate (2004). Hadnt seen the original nor read the book so had no idea what to expect. Not bad. Enjoyed the second half of the movie a lot more than the first half. 6.5/10.

Went to see Mission Impossible tonight. Exactly what was expected. The scenes on building in Dubai were mental. As is his way, he ran a lot. Bird in it was hot. 7/10.

Watched the 2 Sherlock Holmes films this week. Didn't expect the 1st one to be half as good as it was, with raised expectations the sequel did not disappoint!

I rewatched 3 over Xmas and it didn't disappoint either. Philip Seymour Hoffman was immense in it. Again. Has he ever acted badly?
I never recognise 2 as a movie. Loved 1 though as well.

Loved both. Always recommend both of them. The addition of Rachel McAdams in any movie always helps. The chemistry between Law and Donwey Jr is cracking and the back-chat is something else. The usage of the slo-mos in the second one wasn't as well done as the first but in saying that there wasn't many of them.

Fry's appearance was great and I worried that it would be a cameo rather than him actually acting and whilst he isn't that much different to his real life persona he did just enough to ease my worries.

Roll on 3 at the end of 2013.

She was woefully miscast in the first film. Any number of actresses trying to get out of their Eastenders contract could have played the same role far more believeably
