What is this plank up to. Delaney should report this fool to Uefa. This could be construed as a club manager trying to prevent a player from joining up with his country.

McCarthy does want to play for us, and has reiterated that desire many times. The match against Macedonia will finally put such silly speculation to bed, once and for all.
As regards Martinez's role in all of this, I haven't wavered in my belief that he simply wants James free from the 'distractions' of international football for the rest of the season. Wigan are in a fight to avoid relegation and can't afford to have such a vital team member operating at anything less than 100%.
Having said that...his repeatedly tactless utterances on the matter have imbued in me the desire to see Wigan relegated to the Championship, whereupon McCarthy's career will begin to resemble Roy Keane's following Nottingham Forest's relegation. ;)
This is a good point here. If McCarthy turns up and gets capped against Macedonia then the FAI should report Matinez. He is basically trying to pimp McCarthy out to his friend Craig Leivein, and if as it strongly looks, there is no truth to it then he deserves to be reported for it. I have lost every ounce of respect for Martinez as a man and now wish the worst for Wigan as a result, despite them always being a club I liked
This guy really needs to cool it if it is coming out of nowhere. If you read the quotes it's like he is saying Mac can't handle playing B'Ham this week and then Macedonia next week. I mean we get that you are playing a game on the weekend before he goes to play for Ireland. He is capable of concentrating on that first. Freaking WUM. I hope he gets fired and has to go manage in Japan.
From Dan McDonnell's twitter...
'Headline on RTE website. "McCarthy unsure of international future." Shame they can't make a few calls. Tomorrow's paper will tell diff story'
This story has legs, something tells me McCarthy won't play for us against Macedonia...
All the quotes are from Martinez nobody else. I will be loudly cheering on Birmingham on Saturday. Apparently McCarthy has given interviews today with a couple of Irish journos stating that he is 100% committed to Ireland. I have a feeling we are going to find out tomorrow what exactly Martinez has been up too.
Emmett Malone:
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...292507100.htmlQuote:
James McCarthy yesterday contacted the FAI to confirm his intention to join up with the Irish squad next week. The move came as Wigan boss Roberto Martinez again suggested the player has not made a final decision on whether his international future lies with Ireland or Scotland.
Ditto on the Birmingham goodwill. Wigan are part of my preferred relegation trio anyway, regardless of how dickish their manager is.
I think Martinez is indulging in some self-serving disinformation and made a bit of a mule out of Trap in that respect when it kicked off a month or so ago. I'm sure any published statement from McCarthy at this point will be in comical contrast to his manager's.
Isn't Dan McDonnell one of the people who started stirring up all this crap? Now he is on the other side of it?
Thanks to CD above, re Emmet Malone's piece in the Times this morning.
Martinez is a clown, Will be hoping Wigan go through the Trap door now (boom boom).
As for the FAI reporting him to FIFA?UEFA? why? The player is with us. The amount of leeway we've pulled through the GFA on getting players to play for us, we'd do well not to be bothering the powers that be over nothing issues.
Hey, it's not just Fly who can do this fancy smancy text overwrite thingy
Greenscene.ie reporting that McC contacted FAI about travel arrangements for his family.
These quotations are just paper talk from journos and dont carry much substance or fact...Both sides are telling different stories to try and sway things in their direction.. The situation will become clearer next week when he either turns up or not.
I wouldnt hold much sway in what Martinez is saying at the moment...the only one that knows the real story is James himself and we dont have to wait long to see what happens
I believe he will be here next week
I think Martinez is trying hard to get the lad to turn back to Scotland. Its obvious he is very friendly with Levein. He has even been pictured at the Scotish team training session and was also seen at Blackpool v Spurs sitting in the stand with Levein. I wonder what Dave Whelan the Wigan chairman thinks of all this. He is not a man to suffer fools.
There are some credible people on YBIG saying Mac's fam have booked rooms.
It's .me alas, some horticulturists have .ie! ;)
Yeah, you're right. I stated that at the start though. "According to today's newspapers". There's no substantial quotes in any of them. I do like to be positive though, and I didn't want to put up just the Martinez quotes. So waited to see if the Star would have their alleged "exclusive" this morning. Yeah right...
It's beyond doubt.

You'd think for his debut they would have got the right size jersey for him.
I'm an attention seeker. Can't help it.
Bizarre behaviour from Martinez.
I don't agree that we've been accorded any extra "leeway" at all. The rules apply to us just in the same way as they apply to anyone else. The Good Friday Agreement has nothing to do with anything. Northern-born Irish nationals were playing for our sides long before 1999.
That's true to an extent but the GFA has had an effect of playing its part in removing a barrier of sorts that separated a NI born national from the rest of us, the real nationals :). It's almost par for the course now that a footballer with a GFA termed 'Irish identity', will want to declare for the FAI.
Once McCarthy has received his binding cap, Delaney should send a bouquet of flowers to Roberto, thanking him for his part in the development of our prodigious talent.
With a PS 'and shove them up where the sun don't shine'
Martinez has come out of this looking like a complete spanner. Complaining about pressure being put on McCarthy when in reality it's Martinez's own big mouth that has kept this story going in the media for months. Can he not see this?
how come the fai never went after mccourt? or neal lennon?
A combination of them being tied down by NI and not being good enough for our squad when we had the chance.
Unfortunately once they've been capped competitively players can't switch associations, but I hear FAI lawyers are working hard to get that rectified to allow retroactive poaching.
mccourt is good enough dont you think?
McCourt isn't eligible.
Hyothetical discussion about how good he is, is distracting from the build up to the second coming.

McCarthy has contacted the FAI to say he's 100% commited to us. As he probably was all along.
